So my LGS is running a local modern tourney with one simple modification. No tutors other then land tutors. So Fetchlands are fine but no other tutors That can searcg for cards. Including creatures, enchantments ect. So i like to play Gifts ungivinat least that play style. So i want to runlife from the loam with aland toolbox including things like Academy Ruins. What are some good lands to include for a tutor like Realms Uncharted. It lets you gifts for 4 lands and get 2. What are the most useful/ broken piles you could make in modern?
The real power here comes from Urza's Tower + Urza's Power Plant + Urza's Mine + Something else and Life From The Loam. You can essentially dredge back Tron and get tons of mana pouring out. This could be good for even playing Zombie Loam decks that rely on fireball-like spells for closing out games. For this you want a deck that has the "Mono U Tron" mentality of not needing to assemble Tron asap like RG does. This is why a grindy deck like Loam would be sweet to put this in and it only takes up 3 land slots to pull off!
I kind of like using this with Salvage and Drownyard Temple, but it feels a little bit too gimmicky for Modern.
I have been looking at this card actually, I think it could easily have a spot as a 1 of especially since I can tutor for it. I will have to test that when i get a hold of some.

This is actually a really cool idea, the main issue is finding a good set of colorless cards that i can abuse the the tron lands with. Maybe a wurmcoil Engine[Card/] or something as it can re recovered with academy ruins or another good colorless card. another thought was a 1 of Ugin the spirit dragon with the land that lets me bring him back from the grave. but that would definitely need more control style deck.
The only land that is particularly useful to land-gifts for is Dakmor Salvage, which will allow you to either Dredge it to hit Loam faster, or if they put it in your hand, you can discard it to something like Zombie Infestation to generate value (which is also incredibly good with Loam) and then Dredge it from the yard. Otherwise, you just pick your favorite 4 non-basics, and probably run a few Noxious Revival so that you end up getting whatever card they didn't want you to have.
You could also run Crucible of Worlds and then it actually doesn't matter what lands they put in the graveyard
Trade Routes/Life from the Loam is in my opinion one of the most powerful engines in modern without a home. You pitch a land, dredge Loam, cast Loam, and repeat for as much mana as you can make. Moreover, if the one of the lands you're pitching is Dakmor Salvages, the entire process gets 5 dredges and a card in hand (or more dredges) for every cycle.
I like it because it is instant speed draw, for 1 mana, plus I can "Save" a life from the loam in response to graveyard hate by dredging it. just gotta work on the numbers.

I literally just read the new frog lord and instantly thought of a Life fro the loam deck. so going to try this. Making it Sultai instead of temur is interesting as you can add things like Ravens Crime and other useful black hand control. excellent, even more idea to work with. heheheheh

Why not just pay 1 more mana and cast gifts? This card just isn't good, even if you build around it, it's ridiculously slow to generate any advantage, and really isn't all that good when drawn in multiples.

I actually just bought a set of Routes after reading this as I forgot that it's a card that's in Modern right now.
I've been trying to brew a deck that is a different take on a traditional Scapeshift build using Realms and Splendid Reclamation but I haven't quite gotten it firing on all cylinders yet. I feel like Routes was probably the card I needed.
Horizon Canopy or whatever colors you want to use is the modern version of Tranquil Thicket.
-Having 1 Horizon Canopy is worlds better than 1 Trade Routes.
-Having 4 Horizon Canopies cannot really hurt you. Having 4 trade routes can.
A. It's uncounterable, and cannot be removed from the battlefield, within reason.
B. You're already using land searching.
C. It can mana-fix
The card you need is Sakura-Tribe Scout. "Play an additional land each turn" OR "Play a land at instant speed"
Listen to Dudemichael. This card is best used to pump KotR at instant speed, not search for lands. If they tried to give green a Gifts, they failed in epic proportions. Realms is a horrible card. You don't really wanna see it twice, but you want to see it early enough to be of use.
biggest problem is it doesn't say "up to" in its instructions. you have to fetch 4 lands.
Any time you search a library you aren't required to "find" everything you are supposed to search for. You will often see people find only two cards with Gifts Ungiven just to put them in their graveyard.

i double checked the errata on both it and gifts ungiven, i didn't realize they errata's realms to say "up to" as well.

They apparently did (I was not aware) but it was only to avoid confusion like you originally had. Even without the errata, they would work the exact same way.

I was actually gonna run Trade Routes to generate value, but yeah Zombie Infestation seems like another great option, and I'll definitely look into Crucible of Worlds as a recursion option, especially with academy ruins
