Is anyone here at any of the events? I had to cancel going to Detroit for some other stuff so I'm missing out on it.
Looking forward to what the new next-level Eldrazi decks are.
I wasn't committed to going and the Eldrazi metagame sealed it for me. My plan was to play something awesome like Forest Belcher, Cheeri0s, or Enduring Ideal, but I have no interest in running those decks in this metagame. Add in life stuff and I decided to skip Detroit.
But in reality I just hope the Top 8 at all 3 GPs is 6 Eldrazi decks and 2 Affinity, because at this point watching Forsythe's Twitter feed is hilarious.

I always respect those who have the guts to run something spicy at a really important tournament.
I tried your Modernnexus Enduring Ideal deck at TNM. It was pretty fun. I beat RUG Delver, 2-0, but then lost the next 2 matches to Junk and Little Kid Junk. All of the losses were close - 2 of them were missing my 7th land drop. I never had so much fun going 1-2. I was tempted to troll people again this FNM, but it's tough to turn down getting 1st place and $50 odd store credit with UR Eldrazi without any effort. I do plan on trying Enduring Ideal again - most likely at TNM.
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
In 2013 GP detroit was a constructed modern event that had 1461 players. At that point in time it was the most successful modern tournament ever and the most successful constructed North American constructed GP (aside from GPDC which was legacy) that year.
That means Detroit a city that most people expected would not have strong numbers beat out other more travel friendly cities like KC, Miami, Louisville, Albuquerque, and Dallas for a constructed event. This is almost solely on people's enjoyment of modern as Detroit was arguably in much worse condition then, than it is now.
The player base has grown significantly since then, roughly estimating at least 20% growth. GP Pittsburgh was the last big modern constructed event near that area and saw 2,679 players!
If GP detroit doesn't beat out the last event in 2013 or shows very small growth despite the player base being much bigger then the people will have spoken. Modern needs fixing fast.

To be fair, the original Grand Prix Detroit didn't have two other simultaneous Grand Prix in the same format.
I know those other two Grand Prix are on different continents altogether, but some people will travel internationally to go to a Grand Prix.
GP Melbourne has pretty decent attendance for an Australian Modern GP. October 2013's GP Brisbane had only 466 players. March 2014's GP Melbourne (Standard) had 902 players. October 2015's GP Sydney (Limited) had 996. This weekend, Melbourne is at 1101. We need to factor in things like travel time around Australia, but at first glance, that seems like a really healthy growth from previous events.
I'm hoping for 8 Eldrazi in all 3 events just to watch the world burn.
First because I like extreme circumstances, and secondly, because suits will think 99% mercury in your tuna is not enough to cancel a shipment so long as people are willing to pay for it.
The 2R card is Squee, Goblin Nabob . I looked at that decklist trying to figure out what it does: seems like basically an Assault Loam deck, except with Zombie Infestation instead of Seismic Assault. The secret tech is Golgari Brownscale to not die to aggro, Squee as extra discard fodder, and Conflagrate as burn that can be cast from the graveyard.
That article and the quote below play straight into the tin-foil theory of 'lets keep selling packs, dont ban anything'.
...
So all is not lost, if you have also taken the Oath of the Gatewatch, you too can stand up to the Eldrazi. Let’s hope one of these players, or someone like them, can prevail!

"hey where are all the Eldrazi? only 2???"
Yes, because most of the Eldrazi players didn't need to play grinders for byes. They already got their byes by beating everyone at FNM until they had 2250 PWP.
My friend was the guy on UR Eldrazi in the grinders at Melbourne. He built the deck specifically for GP Melbourne; he's usually a Burn or a Delver player.

In the next 40 minutes or so we should see whether he can enter into day two in the top 8 standings. That would be pretty nice.
