So I was thinking about Hero's Blade a card which a lot of people I know were excited about but never really came to anything, and I was wondering if a Bant coco legends deck would be worth a try (after the eldrazi population goes down anyway)
Oh okay, I didn't read the fine print. Go for it, sounds strong if you can get hero's blade out on turn one. And needs some steelshaper's gift to fetch it out.
From a deckbuilding perspective, I would advise that your deck should be able to walk even without that equipment. Ergo, the creatures are strong, and near-broken with that equipment on the board.
At this moment I'm not really feeling that though.
I like Thalia Kataki and even maybe Anafeza the foremost as sb options. Isamaru and Gideon are both cheap legends but the thing I don't like about Isamaru at least is ideally he'll come down on turn one before hero's blade comes out meaning you can't cheat blade onto him, and if you play him later there are probably other creatures you'd rather the blade be attached to. I do think Anafenza Kintree spirit is interesting though.
I like the idea of a Jund version, but I think if we're not trying to use hero's blade there probably isn't a reason to run a bunch of legends and a coco goodstuff deck is likely the way to go. I feel the strength of Bant in this regard is that Geist, Clique, Brimaz, and Kira are all reasonable creatures on their own that become much better if you have out a blade. If you turn 2 blade and then hold up mana for counters/removal/clique you can potentially flash in a clique on your opponent's turn to take their best card an have a 6/4 flier ready to attack, and if you don't have sword your still making reasonable tempo plays. But, as I said at the start of the thread, idk if this is worth no just playing a coco good stuff deck like abzan, since while legends while all of the legendary creatures I listed above are powerful,if you are not playing blade finks and oozes are probably a more dependable and tested route.

I don't think you can build a deck around 1 artifact that doesn't immediately win you the game. You're basically playing a worse version of a Company deck to make 1 card work. Like even if you do get the sword out you're not really poised to win. Not to mention the amount of artifact hate that virtually every single deck packs.
In addition to playing inferior creatures you'll be tripping over the legend rule regularly if your deck is packed with legendary creatures.
True, the equipment doesn't quite do amazing things.
From the list I posted I would actually think I could simply do without the equipment and just play Lili+Fulminator+Alesha in a Coco shell, with Jund midrange control elements like IOK, TS, Abrupt Decay and terminate.
And then from there we of course start asking why we don't simply play the traditional Jund with goyfs and confidants. Argh.

I'd be more sold if the blade gave haste or evasion as well. Otherwise it's just ok. I think it just requires too much setup to use properly. While we are discussing things that could potentially go in a "legends deck":
Tenza, Godo's Maul - another equipment that benefits from legendary things.
Kaldra Tron (Helm of Kaldra, Shield of Kaldra, Sword of Kaldra) works well in a deck wanting to tutor up equipments. Bonus effect that you get a LEGENDARY token when it's assembled which means you get to equip Hero's Blade to it.
Tuktuk the Explorer seems baller as hell in this. He gets to wield the sword and then essentially hands it off to his Golem buddy when he dies. He is also dumber now with the new Legendary rule since if you get a second you get both a TukTuk and a 5/5 legendary golem.
Konda's Banner is another equipment that buffs your board based on legendary things.. Good EDH choff but probably not good here.
Flip Nissa is both Legendary herself and one of her flip abilities puts a legendary token onto the battlefield.
Reki, the History of Kamigawa can be a way to keep filling our hand if we run a lot of legendary creatures. (Possibly allowing us to do stupid things like play a second legendary creature, killing one and drawing a card.)
Time of Need I feel is a must if you splash green. Cheap tutor for a legendary creature seems really good.
Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper the ETBT clause hurts but it's an ancient tomb effect for our legendary creatures. This could allow us to play slightly larger cmc legendary cards if we opt not to go CoCo(I know it's in the thread name but I am basing off the Legends element).
All in all I just don't think we have a ton of supporting pieces for a legends deck. What we REALLY need is a Captain Sisay type card. Anyway those are just some of the "legendary" synergies I know of that are cheap enough to possibly see play in modern. If we opt to go slightly larger than 3 CMC, we could theoretically go Evolutionary Leap instead. This would allow you to sacrifice a duplicate Legendary creature and potentially find something different. Honestly though I think a Naya Brew probably has the most potential with RW being the core legendary cards and green splash to help us find them.
I think it's a toss up between Naya and Bant. Going Bant gives access to Vendilion Clique and Kira, Great Glass-Spinner. Also, Rys + Khemba + Brimaz gives some good token support to help chump block or push more damage through, with Saffi acting as extra protection for our legendary creatures in addition to Kira.

Khemba is actually a great place to start. She WANTS equipment, is in colors to fetch it, can actually use things like Honda's Banner and works well with Brimaz in all capacities (meaning if you have Banner on her, Brimaz becomes a 5/6 and his tokens become 3/3's while her own tokens become 4/4's.. thats pretty massive).
It doesn't seem too bad since, as a tokens player, I'm used to dropping an anthem turn 2 in prep for the Lingering Souls stampede to come. This has similar logic as an anthem.
I wonder if this could make Daxos of Meletis playable? This would make sure he could kill anything that could block him. Fits nicely next to Geist, since you don't want 4x each legendary anyway.

Meh, I'm off in the weeds here. But the whole thing with riding a legendary creature to finish is that you want a control deck around it, so UW...
That's what I'm heading towards. Even with green splash for Collected Company, we are basically playing a sort of hybrid between control and token grinder. Not to mention it's the only time I'd ever consider playing Mangara of Corondor in modern. Even if the opponent decides to bolt him, I'll take that over them bolting something else more important. That or run Jeskai and have Ashling the Pilgrim along with Mangara. My personal favorite just for the art is Ashling, the Extinguisher but that requires black. Also, lore wise thinking about The Extinguisher running around with the "hero blade" is making me smile at the irony.
Honestly, hero blade sounds like an incredibly easy deck on the wallet, too. It's like a 60 card EDH deck in a lot of ways, so you can afford to start with a base package using Rhys the Redeemed, Kemba, Kha Regent, and Brimaz, king of Oreskos, then add whatever janky heroes you want to use in the deck.

I had been thinking about this shell a couple months ago as maybe a fun brew (although I was leaning more towards jeskai because I forgot that coco was a thing). I think Ideally on T2 you'd be dropping the blade, but other than origins jace there's (in rough order of playability) thalia, anafenza, saffi and melira. The Shell that I was thinking of was:
4 Path
4 Collected Company
4 Hero's Blade
Some number of Geist of Saint Traft, Kira, Great Glass-Spinner, Brimaz, King of Oreskos, and Vendilion Clique
Does this seem like something that could be competitive? Or are there just better things to be doing if you go the coco route

I'm attracted to Jund colors: Liliana, Heretical Healer, Alesha, who Smiles at Death, Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh. I would then have access to goodstuff that work very nastily with Alesha and/or Coco: Fulminator Mage, Scavenging Ooze, Eternal Witness.

Also, in case people have forgotten they exist: Day of Destiny, Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers, Eiganjo Castle, Minamo, School at water's edge, PendelHaven, etc. Minamo, School at water's edge lets you combo with Pendelhaven and Untaidake, the Cloud Keeper to either give a 1/1 double boosting or to give +4 colorless mana at the cost of a Dismember and a blue. Not a bad trade off if someone wants to see a turn 4 Keiga, the Tide Star or Dragonlord Silumgar. You can also pull off turn 3 Grand Arbiter Augustin IV and potentially a turn 4 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite.
So, call my idea a bit crazy, but you could have a bant deck with something like
1 Minamo, School at water's edge
1 Eiganjo Castle
1 Pendelhaven
1 Okina, Temple to the Grandfathers
1 Nylea, Goddess of the Hunt
1 Hero's Blade
1 Captain's Claws
1 Day of Destiny
1 Grand Arbiter Augustin IV
1 Kytheon, Hero of Akros
1 Rhys, the Redeemed
1 Kemba, Kha Regent
1 Brimaz, King of Oreskos
1 Kira, the Great Glass Spinner
1 Vendilion Clique
1 Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite
8 search cards
4 whatever else?
Numbers are all just indeterminate. I'm mostly just throwing a bunch of critters up there for an example.
