So, if you have been on the /r/magictcg subreddit today, you would have noticed a big buzz around Séance. A person earlier this year has been doing buyouts and destroying copies of the card, and came out today offering cash to an already qualified pro tour player to build a deck built around the card. This just makes me curious more about the card since it has such a high CMC, but is a "combo enabler" of sorts. What would you build around the card if you were offered 90.5 BTCs to make a deck featuring it as at least a 2-4 of mainboard?
Honestly, and this is a MASSIVE stretch, but this is a get-rich-quick scheme. This dude has been buying out this card and destroying copies, making them scarce. Now, he asks a pro player to build a deck and try it? This should be a huge red flag - he's hoping that the deck is viable and suddenly, his pile of dollar rares just quadrupled in price. He's trying to raise the price of the card because he's been hoarding them. Again, this is a massive stretch, and sounds like it came from someone on acid, but this is the first thing I thought of when I read it.

From what I've dug up, it's supposedly a social experiment, and that makes far more sense than a get rich quick.
No GRQ scheme that I know of would dare to be as open and transparent about its doings as this is, and the amount of backing going towards having a pro prop the card up in a big event doesn't fit the picture for a GRQ. I mean, gambling has risks, but a GRQ usually takes the form of low risk massive payout.

The real scam is dealing in buttcoin, however.
The numbers also don't add up for it to be get rich quick scheme - he's offering like 40,000 dollars to play this stupid card. That loss is not easily recouped no matter how hard the card spikes (if it does!!).
The bad thing about Seance is that it doesn't grant haste. You can reanimate one creature for 1 mana less, 1 turn earlier, with Footsteps of the Goryo. The one advantage Seance has over Footsteps is that you get a token every upkeep, so build towards that. Play big dumb creatures with ETB/LTB triggers or haste and use Seance as a grindy CA engine.

Holy crap I didn't realize it was $40,000 being offered. Yeah, that flips the tables a little bit.

That card slots in to commander. It feels doomed to be T2 or T1.5 decks forever. It's the pet card for a lot of people because its a value train, and people who like to durdle like to durdle hard, but the card will be lackluster until they print better creatures.
Now to put on my other hat...
This card can see some real play. Whether it's Fulminator Mage aggressive punishment or Eternal Witness token + Druid's Deliverance defensive plays, this baby grabs whatever you want it to. You can throw a Sphinx of Uthuun in the yard and keep chaining reanimations together or just kill your opponent with Siege Rhinos and Gray Merchants that you paid 0 mana for.
This card has infinite discussion space. What does everyone here think?
Gifts give you the cards you need and can double entomb Mirror-mad and Maniac to auto win with seance, the problem is def the grave and stay alive against burn/zoo
I have always been a huge seance fan and have had it in the back of my mind trying to brew something up with it for modern. You can use mirror-mad phantasm. Just get him in your graveyard and reanimate him and use his ability. Mill yourself out. Then on their upkeep you can reanimate angel of glory's rise to reanimate laboratory maniac and alchemist's apprentice. Win when they pass the turn or sac the apprentice in response to removal on maniac and still win.
The problem is you want a lot of creatures and also a lot of ways to fill the grave, I found myself using armored skaab which is just terrible. The deck is kind of slow so can get run over by aggro and does not play enough interaction to stop combos but is a house against any midrange deck. The ability to bring back dumb guys like satyr wayfinder on your opponents turn to block is pretty huge against any fair deck.
I am mainly trying to find a good way to fill the graveyard, I assume some kind of dredge engine would be the best. I can't imagine black doesn't have something to help out but I have not even been using black in my build.
as has been said--gifts a singleton mirror-mad into graveyard, exile with séance to make a token, which then can be activated to mill your entire library.

Yes, I am a local area mod. WELP. GOOD LIFE CHANGES ALL HAPPEN AT ONCE AND SOME ARE MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE
Primary Decks:
Modern: Esper Draw-Go
Legacy: RUG Lands
EDH: Sidisi turn-3 storm
Most people who are interested in Mr. Bat**** Insane's $40,000 Challenge are fooling around with ETB effects, kind of like Emeria decks such as UW Value Control. However, the card has a whole bunch of disadvantages compared to Sun Titan and Emeria:
-you can't repeatedly recur stuff
-the tokens get exiled at EOT and they don't have haste
-Seance costs four and doesn't do anything like produce mana or be a big 6/6 vigilance body
I don't understand the fixation around Seance, especially since UW Value Control actually won a SCG event.

You don't need to understand anything about the fascination/fixation with seance. Some dude is offering crazy money to get someone to brew it, it's his fixation, will you respond? CFB had an interesting discussion on this. Cheon said for that money he'd snap do it, if he thought the offer were credible. There are questions about the efficacy of this sort of "hired gun" tactic though. Is the offer real? What if it's some player on another team looking to spike the event? What if an entire team runs the deck, who wins the money? What if it's just some dude looking to get some pros to play a particular type of build then runs his own graveyard hate/anti-seance deck so he can increase his odds of cashing in? Not to mention the market bubble the guy has created. The discussion should be less about whether a deck built around seance can be built, and more about how this entire transaction twists the scene.

Ojutai's Command can't reanimate Sphinx of Uthuun's, Mulldrifters, Angel of Despair, etc. Also it only works once, as opposed to twice per your untap.
The Ojutai's Command deck is the deck that uses Emeria, the Sky Ruin which CAN reanimate anything and it uses Sun titan who can also reanimate tons of permanents.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Ivg, Hornet Queen is better in almost every way. But besides that the decks that are seeing success on Twitch and in FNM reports are ones where all the creatures cost under 4 mana and Seance is the highest CMC card in the deck. I think it will only get better as modern goes on, because since you can essentially add 'flashback 0' to every creature in your deck, as better creatures get better, so does the effect.
Some combination of Greater Good and Kokusho, the Evening Star maybe. I would imagine faithless looting and Gifts ungiven would be important for the brew as well.

I've been cutting fetchlands entirely because of the new Eldrazi deck. It makes me fold to blood moon but it forces them to process creatures - which means that you can get multiple Siege Rhinos per Siege Rhino. Luckily I haven't seen any blood moons and that means you can get pretty greedy with your mana base if you just totally ignore blood moon existing. You can run Vault of the Archangel, Gavony Township, Treetop Village, or anything you want. I haven't gone that deep in to the lands yet but not having fetchlands in the yard makes processing really bad against you.
buyouts, destroying copies and offering cash to ppl for this seriously?
well bad news, the guy is just a not so good speculator, it's a bad card plain and simple, it costs too much and does too little, while there hardly is any powerful synergy around it
hoarding on items none wants to buy is definately not the most profitable thing you can do
yeah, honestly it's a weird card for people to speculate on. apparently though, a bunch of people did (even at the time when the card was first spoiled) and I have no idea why!
the whole scenario is just bizarre and boggles my mind. i guess the people doing the speculating were just going on advice and weren't players of the game? that makes the most sense

trostani's summoner is also super cool with seance. centaur healer is nice. you pretty much have to use faithless looting.
I see this deck as a potential combo kill that doesn't focus on it. satyr wayfinder and sakura-tribe elder are also musts. craterhoof behemoth c be a good finisher. ogre battledriver is another fun one that has potential but I have not tried it out.
