This card wants to be in the same deck as Training Grounds so you can cast it and get one activation in earlier than turn 6, but Restoration Angel does the same thing without Training Grounds support (or dying to Bolt, for that matter).
It's not really three mana though. It's effectively two or one mana in most cases using the Eldrazi manabase. With a lone Temple, it's two lands tapped. With a lone Eye, it's one land tapped. It also defends itself once you untap with it, not to mention repeatedly wreaking havoc on the enemy board. I think those upsides are well worth it for a window of Bolt vulnerability, especially given that you often won't be paying three mana for the card.
My only reservation about Displacer is that it doesn't help a few of BW Eldrazi's worst matchups: Affinity and Burn. It also doesn't do too much work against Tron and Bloom, although it's not totally irrelevant either.
How does it defend itself? It says 'exile another target creature'...
While I like the card I don't really know how it actually improves the BW Eldrazi deck. As you said it doesn't really help the bad MUs and besides Wasteland Strangler and maybe Tidehollow Sculler they don't have any ETB triggers to abuse with it.
It would actually be a lot better if the exiled card would return at end of turn (like Flickerwisp's effect) so you could process it. But like this? I'd say maybe as a one-off (not because it's a bad card, but because it just doesn't help any of the problems the deck has).
But nice see that 'white' eldrazi do exist!
It's basically a maze of ith and should substantially help out with the affinity matchup by wrecking ravager's day. The card is really really good even without as many abusable ETB triggers as you would like.

Yep, reading cards is hard. Good thing Wizards added that clause.
I think the Wasteland Strangler bouncing is actually really strong, but as I said, it's strong in matchups where BW Eldrazi is already strong. For instance, a Strangler and Displacer can machine gun an enemy board, even blowing up the 4/5s, Wurmcoil, Titan, and Big Goyfs. You can also bounce it at instant speed to screw with Twin or other combos. Then again, half of those matchups are already decent, and the other half aren't helped too much by Strangler recursion. Maybe it's better than I'm giving it credit, but maybe it's just too cool and cute.

It's definitely going to be tested in Death and Taxes! Gonna love flickering those Wisps and Splicers.

Valid point.
It also stalls creatures equipped with Plating (as long as they don't have access to bb to just switch it around).
And Ktkenshinx's point about killing bigger dudes by reusing Strangler isn't bad either. Maybe the card is just versatile enough to still see some play. And the deck still has some place in the 2 drop spot (as we all know the card will be played on T2 pretty often) and in comparison to Strangler it doesn't feel bad to play it on T2 without a card to process or target to kill.
I guess testing will show.
The reddit preview is awesome. I love the control options this opens up for BW Eldrazi mages.
Infinite etb combo (in standard and in DRAFT) with Brood Monitor, or with Mardu Warshrieker assuming you can filter the mana somehow, and with Emrakul's Hatcher although that's only modern. Assuming cards in play like Eye of Ugin, you could conceivably combo out as early as turn 4, you just need displacer in play, drop a Brood Monitor and then you can combo from there. (assuming you have some sort of payoff on the field) I smell a fringe combo deck somewhere in there. Especially since Displacer is a solid card on it's own.
Definitely worth picking up a playset, i have a feeling this card is going to dominate standard at the very least. even just the synergy with stuff like rhinos is nutty value for standard. As for modern, I guess that remains to be seen.
That's the first repeatable cheap blink thing and it's pretty strong. Sure it dies to anything, but if it doesn't die it takes over the game. Kinda like Olivia, but Olivia costs 4, while this thing can be reduced to 1.
The ability to blink away enemy attackers, tokens, equips, enchants, combo pieces, etc. shouldn't be underestimated.
Overwhelming Denial will see play. Best counterspell to be printed in recent memory.
can you elaborate on the decks that brought you to this conclusion?

Decks I have in my bag of tricks- Needless to say, someone who wants to play will probably have a deck UB/x Faeries UR Storm XURWB Affinity G Elves UW control
I'm pretty underwhelmed by "Overwhelming Denial". It costs 4 mana except after you cast a spell. It does protect your stuff for pretty cheap, so it can be used to protect enchanting stuff with Splinter Twin, but otherwise, it's 1 mana more than Counterflux.
I'm figuring out whether Melira Company can support Eldrazi Displacer given 4-5 C-producing lands. Eldrazi Displacer looks pretty sweet as a mondo-blinker--blink Eternal Witness, blink Shriekmaw in response to Evoke, refresh Persist dudes, protect the combo, hose Splinter Twin by blinking their Exarch in response, blink Scavenging Ooze so it's within Murderous Redcap range, blink whatever Infect dude they tried to pump, blink Emrakul so she can't swing...blink Primeval Titan, I guess, so you don't get swung at for 6+, but they still get their two new lands...of course, Eldrazi Displacer dies to Bolt and can't protect itself.
Pyromancer's Assault looks pretty close to Keranos, God of Storms in terms of how much damage it can pump out in Grixis Midrange. Sadly, the burn it creates doesn't help fuel the Surge it needs, unlike Jori En, Ruin Diver's card draw. And Kolaghan's Command can't get the Assault back...guess Pyromancer's Assault is on the fringe of not being good enough...
Overwhelming Denial will see play. Best counterspell to be printed in recent memory.
What do you think it will see play in? It is always going to cost at least 3 mana and it will often cost 4.
I think delver / tempo-y decks could run this effectively. When you surge it you have a strict upgrade to counterflux. When you don't you have counterflux that costs 2 instead of the R, which is somewhat equivalent. I think I would play this over any of the pure blue 3cc counterspells we have to choose from.
Pyromancer's Assault suffers from the same problem as Jori En: too expensive for a card that triggers whenever you do something. Play Young Pyromancer, or if you're in Storm, play Pyromancer Ascension. Pyromancers really love casting multiple spells per turn...
Why are people still doing this? I told you guys years ago that "X exists and is unplayable so neither is this" is fallacious and doesn't actually mean anything. It's basically a *****post.
Pyromancer's Assault isn't great but will probably be a fun card to mess around with.
Limited Resources (Marshal) just spoiled some great uncommons...among them was a great card for Modern Prowess decks. I won't re-hash the post (as it is a thread all its own); but here is the card I'm talking about:
For U we get an extra toughness and flying on top of an already amazing card in Monastery Swiftspear. Seems like it certainly could be constructed playable. There are a TON of great two drops in UR; but this is a lot of value (especially for a deck focused on taking advantage of Prowess). I'm excited to give it a try.
** EDIT ** ha! Volrath and I must have been typing at the exact same time! Great minds think alike
Stormchaser Mage is pretty slow at racking up damage. Monastery Swiftspear is faster simply because it comes down on turn 1. Kiln Fiend gets +3 power compared to Stormchaser Mage's +1 for every instant or sorcery. I'd say it's closer to Jeskai Student than Monastery Swiftspear.
Putting two keyword abilities on a bad card doesn't automatically make it good - see Hovermyr vs Omega Myr. Like Stormchaser Mage, Hovermyr's problem is that it only has 1 base power for a 2-drop. Hovermyr didn't make the cut in Tempered Steel while it was in Standard.

Except that it only worrks as a Counteflux when Surge is turned on (without Surge it's just a regular counterspell) and it's not necessarily an upgrade when it is turned on, since a lot of the time you're playing cards off curve that you'd played earlier in the game if you ran Counterflux instead. So the discount is not really a discount. You still need 3+ open mana.

I think you're really selling the stormchaser short. For that 1 extra mana (in the color that can utilize prowess the best), you get a toughness, evasion, and haste. It has HASTE, so it'll always at least get in for 1. Blocks most things in the format for a 'spell' if it doesn't trade with them, by extention saves itself from bolt rather easily and doesn't get gummed up on the ground if the game makes it to a slightly later stage--swiftspear does come out against a lot of decks.
IDK why you mention the myrs...both are limited filler.

It doesn't count your opponents spells, only your own. So its 1 mana better than counter flux if its your second counterspell that turn.
