Just finished a full mete breakdown from last weekends Fall Modern States. I only have 49 of the 52 results so give a slight margin of error. The data is compiled of the 392 decks that made "Top 8" and of those decks what decks actually placed first. I am also providing a link to a spreadsheet of all those decks. The spreadsheet contains hyperlinks to each individual list. Some of the deck lists like UW Gifts and Esper Gifts for example, have been paired together, but can still be found under the actual titles in the spreadsheets. Please enjoy and discuss.
It's nice to know that K Command and Affinity can coexist.
K Command can only hit two targets at best. When you are facing half a dozen or more relevant targets on turn 3, the card is only so good! I mean, it's a great card if they stumble, but it's definitely no Stony Silence or Kataki, War's Wage.
And Knightfall makes its first finish! Many decks here (the SCG links) are not labelled well - "Bant aggro" is a good enough name I guess.
Same. I play U/W Emeria Titan and unfortunately couldn't make it to states (had my debt card stolen at a bar the previous night and needed to preserve the cash I had on hand to make it to work this week while my new card arrived). I am not sure if the U/W Control decks listed were one of 3 variants I have seen around (U/W Emeria Titan, U/W Ojutai Control, Traditional U/W Control). I agree the later 2 could definitely count as U/W control but U/W Emeria Titan is it's own kind of animal while being a control list and I'd wish it was listed separately (it has been placing well lately which is why I hope it made a states top 8).
Ad Nauseum got the same number of first place finishes as Burn, the second most successful deck in top 8s. So many random fringe decks like slivers and kiki chord punching well above their weight. Can anyone explain that?
Only so many sideboard slots. More variance in deck choices means you have to pick and choose what kind of hate you want to bring in and which matchups you predict and want to hose. That's assuming opponents know what the deck is up to in the first place, which may or may not be the case anyway. Weird rogue decks can steal wins all the time if they catch people off guard and/or they don't have proper sideboard answers.

The names on the Spreadsheet are the names SCG gave them on their website. I didn't lable them. I just copied what they tittled them. I didn't proof read all 392 deck lists.
Sorry if that came off as a criticism to you. I noticed the first time I composed the post that it might be read that way - which is why I added (the SCG links) in parenthesis. I didn't mean to imply that the nomenclature issue was your fault - obviously SCG named the page with the decklist. Maybe the person who registered the deck used that name?

After seeing that Slivers won States here in Fresno, CA, I was somewhat disappointed to see no more in the top 8 around the U.S.
Kiki Chord is actually a pretty strong deck in my opinion. I played the deck at 5 FNMs. This was my record in order, 4-0-1, 4-0, 4-2, 3-2, and 4-0-1. I started off 4-0 in each tournament except the 3-2 where I started 1-2. The deck pretty much loses to deck pilot error and somewhat random non interactive decks like Bloom, Tron, and Living End. I was something like 5-0 vs. JUnd/Junk in those FNMs combined. The deck is value-town U.S.A.

Maybe UWR Control will get moved back up to Tier 2. Deck is in a good position atm.
Nah. 2 of those "9" listed in the OP were Geist lists (I know, since I was the #3-4 player and Ryan was also on Geist (HI States)). Who knows how many more labeling errors there were.
I don't quite understand what your saying. I was one of the top 8 UWR players as well. Against the top decks, that placed first, UWR has a great match up so it would only make sense it moves up to tier 2. It might not on the forums I suppose but in reality, UWR is a good deck to play in the next upcoming large events. If you go by the states breakdown.
Jund, Abzan, Merfolk, Affinity, Elves are all in UWR favor. Tron can be a rough match and Ad nauseum but other than that, UWR seems fantastic right now.

Jund and Abzan aren't in UWR's favor. It's 50:50 match-up at worst but probably slightly in Jund's and Abzan's favor.
Hmm, I honestly think my top decks and cantrip effects net me better draws. When I play I want to sit accross from Jund or Abzan. Because in my experience, I win those matches.

Spells / Blink & Combo / Token Grind / Dino Tribal / Draw Cards / Zombies / Reanimate
Format looking pretty healthy to me. Nothing stands out as dominant, and fringe decks showing up means they aren't far behind in power level.
Love the single Lantern Control deck. Never again...

A deck that T8s only once in 49 events is literally the definition of a fringe deck.
