I was just wondering if anyone had any deck recommendations for a meta that is 50 percent midrange and 50 percent control, budget isnt really a problem
Don't know if I'm late to the party, but Tron is definitely a good suggestion. Anything "Big Mana" will do, like Scapeshift and Amulet as well.
I hate to say it, but UR Wizards is probably the best Tempo deck right now. Tempo just doesn't exist in Modern anymore because all of the cards that make it good are deemed too strong in Combo decks.

I'm going to buy into wizards (only missing mutavaults). Already own GDS, need to get more reps on it thought.
Any good materials to read on UR wizards? Can't seem to find much info on it.
I've had this problem for a while now, and am sort of desperate that someone here can help with it.
I have a *huge* trouble finding a deck to play.
Other then the following, I have no issues, as I'm open to buying any deck (within budget), and seem to not care about color or mechanics otherwise.
1: Grave Based. I say this only because whenever I've brewed decks, they always seem to gravitate towards this. I don't really know *why* I like it though...
2: Modular. By this I mean I can modify it to fit my tastes, or my situation, easily. This is because I'd like to use the deck as a jumping off point for more structured brewing.
3: Within budget. I can't have it be much more then 800 usd, and even that's stretching it.
4: Ideally, competitive enough that I can win with it without relying more on my skill then the average player... seeing as I don't have much.
Issue is, every grave deck I've looked at hasn't been able to fit all of these. Dredge; too restrictive. Deathshadow; Out of Budget. Most selesnya stuff seems too janky to me for me to do well with it. And trust me, I've play tested a *lot* of brews and decks, assuming they weren't out of budget, none of which worked out (using MTGO and a rental system).
Any ideas to help out? Sorry if I did anything wrong here, pretty new to this
I mean what are you looking to do with the GY? As Foretold Living End?
That's the thing, really any kind of graveyard interaction works. But Hollow One and Bridgevine aren't very modular,as far as IK. That is, I can't change much in them without worrying heavily about whether it will work.
Shadow without Tarns, Lilis, and Leylines has to be close to $800. What cards do you already have?

Shadow without Tarns, Lilis, and Leylines has to be close to $800. What cards do you already have?
THe cards I already have is zero :P. Thus my issue. Been thinking I *may* just go with dredge in any case.. it's not as malleable as I'd like, but it's within budget and I can somewhat customize it so I suppose it could work. Was just hoping there would be a more perfect fit.
Hi, I have already posted here about what deck I wanted to play but I was unhappy with the choices I made and with modern as a whole. Only when I noticed that there's no true correct way to play the format is that I finally noticed what I was doing wrong and what should be matured in order to seek a new opinion, so here's the info.
Cards you already own
I have Skred Red almost complete and Mono Green Stompy complete, other than that I have relics, mana leaks, serum visions, opt, lightning bolts, logic knots, dispels, disdainful strokes, abrades, young pyromancers and other cheap format staples (mostly in red and blue colors). I have no fetches or shocks.
Colors you like to play
In commander I'm most comfortable playing with black/green due to the amount of removal and recursion in those colors. But in modern I tend to prefer blue with black, white or red, just so that I can have access to good removal spells.
Styles you like to play
I'm mostly a control player, prefering the draw-go style but I also enjoy playing with prison aspects. Besides control my second favorite playstyle is midrange and tempo as close third. I tend to enjoy the more draw-go style regardless of the deck I'm playing and I usually tend to valorize lands a lot, so I end up always wanting to hit my land drops, even if I'm playing aggro (which is my worst style so far). The style that I dislike the most is combo due to how vulnerable I feel towards my enemy interaction spells.
In pauper my go to deck is Dimir Alchemy, which to me feels like a draw-go control deck with a weak late game due to the lack of planeswalkers or other big finishers that control has access to in other formats. This is basically what I'm seeking for my modern deck, because playing that style just feels natural to me and I already have quite some practice with this style.
Besides the counter spell aspect of blue I also enjoy boardwipes, they give some security against aggro matchups.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (casual, fnm, ptq)
FNM level is enough for me, so decks that are tier 1 or on the more expensive side ($900+ to me) feel like a way big investment just for fnm play.

There isnt much in the GY space, because Dredge is so good at it, that the hate for it is at players fingertips in case it shows up. This constricts any other development of a GY deck, as 'why bother Dredge is better'.
I'm sure there is some brewing space available though, like BridgeVine.
I think both are excellent choices, but Humans is the deck most likely to get an upgrade with the printing of a playable Human. It could happen the other way around with a pushed Spirit, but Human is my feeling.

I want a deck that feels like its doing something busted. Grishoalbrand seems fun but it also seems inconsistent and easily disruptable. Budget's not super important but through the breach and vengeance are out of budget.
Krark-Clan Ironworks is doing something busted. Outside of that, probably something like Dredge.

KCI does nothing, and then all of a sudden it wins. Seems kinda lame to do nothing and then just win. Dredge I’m afraid of the ban hammer so I don’t want to play that deck. I have Bant vizier company and I like that but I think I might want to change that up somewhat. What’s the best vizier deck? Any other ideas?

tron: t3 karn
storm: have baral, resolve gifts ungiven, untap, win

Hardened Scales: affinity on crack...win match 1 and lose 2 & 3 to hate, unless you are a great player
The best Vizier deck in my opinion is GW Company with Knight of the Reliquary. You can also check the Collected Company thread. I personally prefer Abzan right now, but GW is where many of the players there are at.

Not very new to the format, but I'm only used to play casually with friends - even if we determined we should be using a modern or legacy deck.
I want to start playing more competitively, like at FMN or lgs tournaments.
Cards you already own
I've got a probably dated Death's Shadow. I really enjoyed this deck, but faced problems with red/burn decks. Not sure if the current meta still has space for Death's Shadow. Would need to buy 4 tarmogoyf.
I don't own many expensive cards, like Liliana, Engineered Explosives, Cavern of Souls. But feel free to suggest decks that need'em, as they play well in other decks/formats.
Colors you like to play
Any. I like to experiment with new decks and try to understand how to play with it.
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue)
I might not have the right mindset for control. Ramp, Aggro, Combo, I'd say.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq)
Is there something between FMN and PTQ? haha. Something between them. Not expecting to win some real money with it, but I don't like losing a lot hahahaha.
The top decks in Modern are something like this right now.
1. Dredge
2. Humans
3. KCI
4. UW Control
I would make my decision based mostly on these 4 decks unless you know something particular to your regional meta.

So here's my problem with Modern right now, I can't for the life of me figure out what I want to play. Nothing in the top decks interests me and no cards I've seen that I want to even try to play have a chance in Modern. Right now I'm trying to play the Abzan Fall of the Thran deck from against the odds but that deck is just bad against basically everything I've run into in the field. Can't beat Humans, can't beat Control, can't beat anything that starts killing early creatures. I've tried some GW decks but I just don't want to default to GW Company and try to combo out but nothing outside of doing just that in GW works. Tried GW Death Taxes but again the current meta is just toxic to that deck. I would probably want to consider an Abzan deck but those just don't do well either and I also don't want to invest so much money into goyfs just to not enjoy the deck either. Basically, I don't wanna play the meta but I also don't wanna lose constantly like I'm currently doing and it's to the point now where I just don't wanna play modern events at all because it seems like I'm in a point where I don't have a choice with decks.
