What reason do you have for him to not play Tron? It's still a good deck and putting up some results. Modern is a format where familiarity is rewarded. I don't doubt your friend can play other decks, it's quite common for entrenched players to play several decks fairly well, or be able to pick up similar decks easily. That being said, there just doesn't appear to be a significant benefit to swapping decks. Assuming your friend isn't breaking the meta, he's only gaining a couple percentage picking the optimal deck and then losing it to familiarity anyway. Especially if he's doing well with Tron, I say just let him play it.
I personally don't think that Tron is in a good place, perhaps mostly because I play decks that do well against it. I feel like UW Control and Humans are among the top 4, so I am going to be bringing those as well.

how playable are Abzan traverse lists right now? decided to try it at fnm last night and I really like it, I just don't know if it's worth trying that or focusing on my other options for GP Toronto next Feb. My other options being GDS, 4c traverse shadow or Mardu pyro. could also be convinced to sleeve up Jeskai or blue moon again
Hey guys what modern deck would you consider if you were going to be taking a break from magic? Due to a lot of factors I will have to do so and am unsure which simplistic one to go with; was thinking boggles, tron, titanshift, or burn because I want to be able to catch up with latest lists easily if I have to. I also want it to be competitive the times I can occasionally drop by a tournament. I am open to other suggestions for sure!

I'd say Burn would be your best all rounder for occasional 'hop back ins'. Bogles, Tron and Titanshift are always gonna fluctuate a bit on meta, but a good burn player will always do well.

Hey all, I was wonder what deck to start delving into. I have storm, playset of snaps, cryptics, and strands. I want to play something that requires a little bit of skill such as amulet or kci. I don't want to play blue anymore as the meta has changed a bit. Looking for something that has good matchups against tron and burn as I see those at my lgs. Also want to get the most bang for my bucks as in if I buy amulet I cam turn it into titanshift easily. Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated!

Amulet. It takes some skill and has good matchups vs. Tron and Burn. Mind you, they're not close to as good as they used to be though.
The transition to Titanshift is fairly painless, now that Scapeshift has been reprinted.
*KCI is probably better against Tron than Amulet, but I'm not so sure that KCI is favored vs. Burn with Eidolon of the Great Revel.

I would highly highly recommend anyone looking at Modern, to look at this article, its quite good at giving an overview of the format as a whole right now.
It's a good article no doubt. I read it earlier today.
Although I will admit that he got more matchups correct than I probably would have, I had to laugh a bit that Humans is "favored" vs. Titanshift.

I have been burned out on playing Collected Company lately and have also been missing playing something with control and combo elements in it.
Currently I'm considering Jeskai Copycat, Naya Kiki-Chord, Bant Knightfall, and possibly even Abzan Company again. I prefer removal to permission, but I'm not entirely new to countermagic. And as far as a combo-win goes, I prefer something that threatens a win right away while also providing utility and synergy with individual pieces; Abzan Company has left me with a fear of Tron decks, but I also don't want to go as linear as possible.
Any thoughts? Particularly for the current FNM meta in the Midwest US (I would cite specific decks but I just dont want to play Devoted Elves at the moment)

Not going to lie, that deck needs an Emrakul 1.0 or else it just auto-loses to anything that stalls the game out. Having said that, the idea of running Cremator along with Nahiri 2.0 seems tasty; use Nahiri to swing with Emrakul then use Cremator to dome their face for 15 and recycle your yard just in case they are still alive somehow. Also a Ponza Shell ramp package might be better than traditional dorks.
Edit: allow me to clarify; the deck has piqued my interest, but I feel it needs some work. Something I may be on board with working on in the future.
How about 4-colour Saheeli? Not sure if it’s all thwt viable, but it looks fairly close to meeting your criteria.
I think it's viable. I have had some insane games against this deck and I have now played against it 3 times at 3-0 in the final round of weekly tournaments against 3 different pilots. I definitely underestimated the deck, but I won't anymore, even if my sample size is small as hell.
I also know that Cragganwick hasn't been optimized, but that's also part of the allure - being able to hopefully work towards something that just gets better.

4-Color Saheeli sounds right up my alley; I'm fan of additional combos in case the first one fails, and having the option to grab Kiki-Jiki if it is there is tempting. What area is the thread under?
As far as the allure of Cremator, I agree 100%; I'll voice my suggestions in the actual thread so as to not derail this one
So! I need help deciding on what deck I should make. For the past few weeks, my friend has been letting me play his Jeskai Control deck and I've been overperforming with it regularly ending up in the top 3 out of 30 ish people. Personally, I can't afford that deck though but I've seen two decks that I could make in its place. The first deck was the last deck I played in Standard, Jeskai Saheeli. For the most part, I'd want to build it as a semi-value control deck with things like Crackling Drake, Gideon Ally of Zendikar, Reflector Mage, 2 Snapcaster Mage, Lightning Bolts and Helixes, Path and a few counterspells with maybe a Nahiri in the main or side and a target for her. The other deck I was thinking of is Mardu Pyromancer with more white than usual for Path, Gideon and the white sideboard cards since they are all pretty powerful cards to have here. I'm really torn between the two. I typically played control in the past and my modern experience is limited so I'm not really sure which to build. On one hand, I really know Saheeli since I spent a long time playing that deck in standard. On the other hand, Mardu Pyro is a better deck but Faithless Looting feels soooooo wrong to me by throwing away the card advantage. So! I'd like some advice on which to make and any tips on how to build them best

i like saheeli, but lets be honest, mardu pyromancer is the winner here. And while i firmly believe that mastering a deck is important in modern, having played in standard against a totally (subpar?) different meta is not relevant experience IMHO. its a totally different experience playing a mirror saheeli in standard that knowing how to play against humans or KCI in modern.
I'm currently deciding on which deck to build. I currently own Grixis death shadow and want another deck to play, a deck that will complement mine depending on the meta.
I enjoy interactive and tempo decks and have two on my mind:
Infect and tempo.
Which deck would be the most competitive and fun to play?
Or do you have any other suggestions?
How about Izzet Phoenix? It's the new hot ***** and putting up some serious numbers.

No, its far better than Wizards, which is a weak tribal deck that leans on having 8 Bolts.

Without having to go too much into depth, one thing I notice is when players that normally wouldn't play a deck like this DO start playing it. That's a big clue. Sure, there are players that have been waiting to play a deck like this or are willing to make sacrifices for archetypes or colors that they like, but a huge portion of players have flocked to the deck, including Ross Merriam, who won the SCG Open recently with it.
Also my own anecdotal evidence is a local player who ran Atlanta Regionals with the deck at 10 wins in a row, including the finals.
