First of all, I'm currently playing with Affinity, however, I did not liked the style of the deck. I did like the several angles possibles to win, and do not like the terrible top decking and lack of gas in longer matches.
Cards you already own
-Complete affinity
-A playset of new karn
-Some shocks and fetchs
Colors you like to play
I'm not proud of myself telling that I learned that I really like playing blue/black,
Style you like to play
I got into modern a year ago, tried Burn and Affinity, and saw that I dislike playing aggro. I like to be in control or to cast big things, other than be fast or have a large amount of creatures.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq)
Competitive leagues in MTGO. I do not have time to go to the LGS nearby.
Extra information
Budget wise, I'll trade my Affinity (near 350tix) and throw a plus if needed.

Not sure if this is the right place for this post, but I'm kinda in a weird spot with decks right now so this is probably it.
Right now I'm trying to decide if I just need to take a break and sell out of Magic for awhile or continue searching for a deck that suits me long term. I've basically bounced between decks for my entire Modern career other than a longish stint on Esper Draw Go and Storm (back when it played Probe and Ascension). I've just never been able to find a deck that has felt "right". Currently I once again have Storm and once again have discovered that I'm really not a fan of Gifts Storm, and also have Amulet Titan. I'd wanted to get Titan for quite awhile but surprise surprise it really just doesn't feel right.
My all time favorite modern deck was Kiki Pod, which was actually my first deck in Modern. I know there are some decks in Modern that emulate the feel of Kiki Pod somewhat, but I'm just not sure how good they are. I've just moved and my new LGS looks to be pretty competitive (moreso than my previous LGS). At this point part of me wants to sell out for a little while and put the money toward stuff for my new apartment, but another part of me wants to at least give Kiki Chord or the Abzan Company deck a shot before doing so.
What are people's thoughts on those two decks? I need some opinions on them before I give either one a shot since I don't know anyone locally that plays them.
I don't have much of an opinion on Kiki Chord because I haven't played it in over a year, maybe even 2 years. I'm not sure if it's all that good in the meta and seeing that hardly anyone plays it kind of confirms that.
Abzan Company or Abzan Counters in my opinion is pretty strong. I feel like it's a top 10 deck for sure and you can certainly do very well with it.

I think of the two I prefer Abzan Company/Counters Company. It doesn't quite feel like Kiki-Pod, of course, but it seems alright. I just like to get other people's opinions before I start testing a deck myself.
off topic but: why dont test on xmage, i prefer mtgo to test/play, but xmage (or other free programs) are great to "see if i like this deck".
My experiences with XMage have been a bit odd. I like it, but it doesn't seem to like my computer for some reason. Lots of crashes and hangs that keep me from really getting to do too much with it, which is a shame. Otherwise I'd definitely be testing decks on XMage.
It's been a bit since I've wanted to play Modern, but the "brewer's paradise" of sorts that it's become where experience and matchup lottery typically play a strong role in games has enticed me to come back. I haven't played Modern for about a year and a half now at this point. I used to play Living End and Ad Nauseam, neither of which I particularly want to play any more with the plethora of other options. Additionally, I used to play Bloom Titan back in the day before it was banned.
In the meantime, I have been playing a lot of Legacy, mostly in the form of Death and Taxes and Miracles. Don't let the DnT fool you, though — I'm atrocious at creature combat, so decks without that would be preferable.
Looking back, I believe my favorite decks were ones that would slam a single card and play protect the queen. I played Esper Control/Dragons during Ravnica/Theros and Theros/Dragons, and Elspeth was quite fun to work with. I've seen some silly Bant control decks running some ramp, as well as Esper Control running a Dragonlord Silumgar while browsing r/modernmagic and the 5-0 lists (which I know are curated, no worries). I don't really mind how "tiered" the deck is, as I certainly have been following tournament Magic and see decks like Humans and Tron still performing quite well. Jeskai and UW look interesting, although I was wondering if there was potentially other options that are more off the beaten path. Thanks all!
I didn't play creature combat for 10 years. I still am not that good at creature combat. Look at my decks below that I play. Most don't take much creature combat.
P.S. - Amulet is still playable.

I guess I should follow up — I still own Bloom Titan/Amulet, but I’m more looking for an off the wall deck to try to regain those glory days of Theros standard control.
Thanks for the combo suggestions! I’ll check those out too, although Titan Shift seems...super boring.
The cards of value I currently own are 3 bloodstained mire, 3 wooded foothills, 1 stomping ground, 1 ancient foundry, 4 goblin guide. Currently my only deck is 8-whack. I love the deck but I also would like to try something new. basically anything that’s not balls to the wall aggro. my first casual deck was a sultai self mill with an aristocrats subtheme. My roots lie in the graveyard and my favorite color combination has got to be b/g. I currently have about $400 to put into a deck with an extra $80 a month for upgrades. realistically I will mostly be playing at a fnm level but I also want to be able to hold my own own at a ptq level.

Play Mardu Pyromancer. Much of the core of the deck is pretty cheap, you've already got a chunk of the landbase, and the $200 set of Blackcleave Cliffs can be replaced with Dragonskull Summit for about $10 until the Cliffs get a reprint. The Lilianas don't seem super necessary at least at first. Here's an example, though this has Marsh Flats instead of Wooded Foothills: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1211793#paper

Looking for deck suggestions that could do well against my local meta. Typical modern FNMs at my local shop look like this:
2 to 3 Mardu pyromancer
2 to 3 humans
2 to 3 burn
1 or 2 bogles
Combo and control are somewhat rare but show up from time to time. I'm willing to play anything but don't really play much outside my local shops FNM so I just want something that's going to be positioned well against that kind of field. Thank you.

Have you considered Tron? Tron beats Mardu Pyromancer, should be slightly over 50% vs. Humans, slightly over 50% vs. Bogles, and be slightly under 50% vs. Burn. Go up on Wurmcoil Engine (to 3) and 3-4 Nature's Claim and you should do solid in that meta. Not sure what beats all of those though.
P.S. - That looks like a terrible meta for Storm. Ugh!

I currently have Jeskai control built, but I am considering switching to straight UW. All I would have to do is pick up 2x Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Could someone outline the pros and cons to each version? That would help me decide whether or not I take the plunge.
Thank you.

Now Playing Modern RUBW Affinity BGR Midrange UWR Control RG Titan Shift RW Burn GW Bogles G Tron
Hi everyone! I want to get into modern, but only have enough money for mono green tron-4 karn or humans-cavern/horizon/noble hierarch, at my store, for modern we have an any amount of proxys policy, but I dont really like abusing this, is it worth it to have to wait less time to completely completely finish the deck
Thanks everyone who gives me the time of their response!
They are completely different decks. Humans will be good until they eat a ban, and will always improve over time. Tron, will get you looks from your friends for playing Tron.
I want a new modern deck but i want it to be not a super popular deck but one that is still competitive. Ive got the blue white and green white fetches a long with a couple other ones but not a full playset of those. I have mardu pyro and love it but i want a different archetype. Maybe some sort of combo. Imwilling to play four color too. I cant spend a ton on cards right now. so im in the range of 500-700 usd to spend right now.
No tron

other non midrange deck you could try:
G/R Land Destruction: blood moon+stone rain for their basics!
Eldrazi and Taxes: to be honest this is somewhat like mardu, midrange +disruption, but play different
Four-Color Saheeli: midrange...with combo to keep them honest
Thanks! Ad Nauseam seems appealing but i wonder if it would get old quickly. What are some pros and cons of ad naus over storm? And would it get old?
both are "age proof" to me, they have been always there (from tier 1 to tier 4). about pro and con...well
Ad nauseam is a+b combo (Ad Nauseam+ either Angel's Grace/Phyrexian Unlife), all the other cards are search for the combo, generate mana to play the combo faster, protect the combo, and go all in. you dont have plan b (well you have Laboratory Maniac), is better against midrange without disruption, other combos, and control, UW control have a hard time against instant combo decks. Burn is a bye.
Storm is more grindy, is slower but resilient, you have better tools against diruption, and if you can cast Gifts Ungiven you probably won.
Both are pretty hard to play, sure G1 is easy, but G2 and G3 need a godly pilot to play against hate.
IMHO If storm is hallow one( grindy Graveyard aggro deck), ad nauseam is Vengevine (all in graveyard aggro deck). I think that there is plenty of disruption right now in modern, and thats why storm is a better choice...today.

Sweet lists! I guess I'll try the miracle version, and maybe build a UBx Tessert control for the friendly leagues since they share a couple of cards.
