I was looking at Ad Nauseam, but my concern is that it would just be a worse storm deck. I haven't looked at any Death's Shadow decks yet but I'll take a look. Thanks
You may want to ask people about how good Death's Shadow can do. A lot of players (myself included) don't think that Shadow is in a good place right now. Even Storm would stand a better chance in most metagames.

I have played Ad Nauseam, but not storm and i could say the following:
Ad Nauseam dont fold to creature removal (the most common thing in modern), so game 1 is for you 95% of the times, and is better at comboing instant speed.
For example, the best match up for AN is burn, while burn is storm worst match up. When i played UW control i have favourable MU against storm, while ad nauseam is unfavourable.
Ad Nauseam is also an "A+B" combo deck, where you literally just need to cast two cards and you virtually win on the spot. Storm, on the other hand, is an engine-based combo deck, where you can start to "go off" without all the requisite pieces immediately available to you, and hope that the engine you set in motion (a series of rituals and cantrips) eventually dig you into Past in Flames or a Grapeshot. I wouldn't say the two are that similar, other than both being combo decks, and I would definitely not say Ad Nauseam is a storm deck, because it absolutely doesn't use any storm cards at all.
I have a cookie cutter list built for Mardu Pyro, and am debating trading some stuff out of it(flats, k-command, or a lili and some edh stuff) to build hollow one. Since I already have most of rakdos, should I do this or do you think I should keep pyro together?
Keep Pyro together unless you just want out of it, its a much better deck...
DOn't see it top as much.
I think its a harder deck to play, but I'm insanely biased against Hollow One, I think its really bad. Its like, some weird dredge wannabe..I just cant get behind it.
Hey all, been playing modern for a while now, but not really sure what deck I want to start building towards next, so I'm here now.
Cards you already own:
In paper, I own mostly cards in grixis colors, but also own tron and eldrazi stuff.
Colors you like to play:
I like all colors, though white and green are probably my least favorite.
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue):
I love midrange and anything rogue, but also enjoy playing aggro and control. Never really played combo so I'm not really sure about that.
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fnm, ptq)
as long as it can win games and is fun to play, idc.

You can try Grixis Control. Corey Burkhart usually has a list floating around that would be pretty strong. But, I think if you want a deck that is "under the radar" nearly as good as the top 3 decks in Modern, I think you should consider GR Eldrazi. There are some insane draws with the deck and it's often much better to be proactive than reactive so that you don't have to match all of your answers to their threats.

Looking for recommendations for decks to try out on MTGO. Specifically for grinding leagues. Card availability is not an issue.
I'll play anything, but not really trying to play humans because I play that in paper. What are your favorite decks with which you have the highest win rate?
Well, I'm going to focus on your Control and Tempo options, as I think combo right now is relegated to few decks (the best of which you specifically requested not to play).
Control decks minus snapcaster are hard to come by. There's Skred, but you said you don't like red.
As for tempo, snapless options are limited, but they exist. Death and Taxes is an old favorite. I even play a variant that plays much more like midrange/control. It's a blast, and does require quite a bit more skill than you'd think. Most hand disruption decks require quite a bit of skill, so B/G/x is always an option, as well as Humans. If you need me to give you any lists, I'm happy to! Hope this helped!
Thank you for the suggestions! I know that Snapcaster limit my options, but it doesn't matter how good he is I just can't seem to enjoy playing the guy. It might just be frustration over the overly-slow players I've seen using it, I don't know. I did try that long-forgotten combination with the Leonine Arbiter and Mindcensor - that was fun for a while, but I've never seen it scoring much out of a few FNMs. B/G/x sounds interesting though! Could you introduce me to any particularly interesting lists?
I was also considering a Zur Esper, but again, not sure if the list can do much in the current meta.
I do like Merfolk! I'd imagine that the lists are much more BG now than the classic mono B. Will give it a look though! (and yeah, sorry 'bout the Snap, I really dislike the card, what can I do?)
Hollow One takes a lot of skill to play. It can be pretty tough at times, at least to play super optimally.
I appreciate the feedback, the deck caught my attention, but urgh, I refuse to pay that much for a set of Goblin Lore, and the deck seemed a bit of a glass cannon (I mean, by reading the primer), but not as good as Griselshoal. I might be super wrong though, never tried the deck in person.

Yeah, the price of Goblin Lore is insane, but Modern is "pay to play." So if you think that the deck is worth it, then go for it! I know some friends who swear by the deck. Burning Inquiry is very good vs. some decks and you can beat tough matchups by having nut hands. I read a comment by Pro Player Mike Sigrist who said it was the toughest deck he ever played at a GP.
It can be somewhat a glass cannon. Griselbrand is for sure. I've played that deck for over a year. Grishoalbrand is quicker, capable of a turn 2 and even turn 1 kill, but often you don't draw into a win-con, whereas the Hollow One deck can win in many different ways.
Personally, I have tested Hollow One, but not played it yet in tournament. I find it would be tough in my meta, although just today I played a Tier 1 deck in Humans, so who knows? Maybe I'll try it out and have something better to say...

I'm looking to get back into Modern after several years of not playing, but following it somewhat through Reddit, etc. I'm on a limited budget at the moment but I'm able to build some now and some later. I already own Aether Vial and Cavern of Souls, so Humans seems like a natural fit. I play Goblins in Legacy, and I enjoy the grindy, heavily creature-based approach using Vial, etc. My only two issues with Humans is that everyone keeps talking about it getting the banhammer and I hate to shell out for Noble Hierarchs because they just don't seem to be worth the money. That being said, I haven't played Modern in years so I may be wrong about Hierarch and as far as bannings go, I don't know how serious this concern actually is, so it would be good to get some informed opinions there.
Other decks that I've seen that interest me are RG Eldrazi and BW Eldrazi/Taxes, so I'd be interested in hearing opinions on these vs Humans. I'd like to have a deck to mostly take to FNM and at least be in the running to win some of the time, as well as the occasional regional event (GP/SCG, etc.). I'd also like the ability to learn the format through playing a deck with a lot of interaction, so combo decks are mostly in the past for me at this point. As evidenced by my deck choice in Legacy, I don't necessarily feel the draw to play a Tier 1 deck, but I do want to have a chance in most matches.
In my previous experience with Modern, I played U Tron and enjoyed it rather well, but I know it has a rough matchup against the faster, linear decks which makes me feel that it isn't a great choice. Right now I'm looking at probably around $250 store credit and about $250 cash available to use for a Modern deck. I own Foothills, Mires, and Deltas, but no other fetches yet, and no shocks currently. I also own 3 Blood Moon and 3 Thoughtseize, so Mardu Pyromancer also seems like an interesting and viable choice that I know little about. Bonus points if the deck shares staple cards with Legacy decks, as I could more easily justify getting them because I could reuse them in other decks later.
Humans in its current form is fine. I doubt anything is currently ban worthy. But I am also not Wizards of the Coast. I feel that it could be the strongest fit for you, but I am also biased as I had most of the pieces of Humans way before the prices went to the sky. I literally needed to just pick up Mantis Rider, Unclaimed Territory, and Kitesail Freebooter.
I do actually believe that GR Eldrazi is in the top 5 of decks or VERY close. GR Eldrazi players locally have a lot of luck with this deck. I think any time you have these hasty threats, it makes your top decks potentially stronger than your opponent's. BW Eldrazi Taxes is also a very solid deck. I am biased here, but I just hate the Black, White, and Colorless mana base and the deck is not really my style.

Dredge seems as good as any deck at the moment. Hollow One is on the downswing so you may see a small downshift in GY hate and the traditional control decks which have a problem with dredge seem to be on the rise. If you are looking for the most powerful deck in a vacuum it is probably humans. If you are fine with a deck that is powerful, but runs the risk of problems with specific hate cards then stick with dredge. The rest of the decks you mentioned are all probably just worse than Dredge almost always.
If anyone wants, I could send you my Dark Jeskai gifts list. I feel it's completely broken and the deck has absolutely insane number of decision trees every match (if you're into playing a deck like this)

I'm actively maintaining a comprehensive article to help explain to new cube players how some complex vintage level cards work in a cube environment. Vintage Cube Cards Explained
Greetings~ I am super new to modern. I’ve toyed around with a few ideas I liked on Cockatrice, but I can’t find a groove.
I have a wide variety of cards, but specifically, I’ve been leaning towards a Snapcaster Mage deck.
I have a play set of SCM, Thoughtseize, and a handful of other staples. I’ve mostly played Standard, but decided it was time for a longer term investment.
I have a minimal land base.
I enjoy
I have a cEDH Mill deck, so kind of felt that’d be an easy entrance.
I like control, and from all of my research, it seems the safest (but potentially priciest) way into modern.
For now, I’m focused on FNM and trying to learn about Modern. Eventually, I’d love to PTQ a and go to a big event!
Money isn’t REALLY a problem, but we’ll see.
Thank you for reading and hopefully some Modern gurus can help guide me!
Control isn't really the easiest way into Modern. You need to understand a large swathe of the meta, know which threats require answering, be able to determine which hands are good to keep in blind matchups. If you want an easy stepping stone into the format, find any of our various non-interactive decks and just learn the gameplay patterns.
You could play mill if you want, but it hasn't really (ever) been competitive, but maybe that isn't a bad thing for you. Just recognize that you're not winning fast with mill, and as I said, there are tons of fast, non-interactive decks that will just win before you get close to winning.
If you want to focus on learning and are ok with a steeper learning curve, control might be an option. Just be prepared to lose a lot initially because you aren't quite sure how everything works, what answers you need, when you need to switch roles and start winning. Control is really at its best in the hands of someone with near-complete understanding of the meta, but if you want to learn through trial and error, there are few better archetypes to jump onto. Combo decks can be a crutch in that you can play suboptimally and still just draw the combo to win after being disadvantaged the whole game; if you aren't careful, you might attribute your victory to how you played, and not what you drew randomly and when.
If you want to jump into Modern and have fun, sure, take mill. If you value winning a little higher than just fun and enjoying an archetype you've played before, take your pick of a non-interactive deck. If you really want to get into the weeds and learn the format, try your hand at control (Jeskai is often the most popular choice).
Hey everyone, I've been lost in modern and I'm here to commit to trying a new deck. Here's my story:
I first played Naya Zoo in modern up until they banned Wild Nacatl.
I then moved to Affinity and nearly foiled out the whole deck until I became bored with the archetype.
I briefly played UR Storm with Pyromancer Ascension and that was fun but I missed being interactive.
After that I committed to Bant Midrange and had a ton of fun brewing until Collected Company saw print.
I honestly think it's so good in Bant colors that it invalidates a lot of other Bant strategies but what do I know it wasn't my style of deck anyhow.
That leads up to my favourite deck of all time, one that truly embodied what I loved about magic, Monkey Grow (thank you ashtonkutcher).
However, I was too unhappy with it's performance after Gitaxian Probe ate a ban...
So now I'm in Limbo, not sure where to go from here.
I've just been scouring posts, forums, and articles for inspiration.
My fingers have been crossed for a new card to come out that will spark my interest.
tl;dr: I like tempo (the deck archetype), interactivity, moderate skill intensity, and being able to beat aggro. what do I play next?
Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves

Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
So I've been out of the scene for a while and am looking for a deck to play.
Since I don't have much time, it has to be a deck I can just pick up and play, so while having decisions, a proactive deck and not too hard to begin with (even if it's hard to master.
I always loved control, but I admit, it is hard playing and requires a lot of skill and knowledge about the metagame, which I don't have time to do so.
I own almost 90% of jeskai base, mana, staples (appart from Teferi and Jace Mind sculptor).
So I'm honestly thinking about selling my 4x celestial colonnade which are at a good price and would help me towards building a new deck.
I do want to keep my snapcaster mage thought.
I played grixis shadow, and while not being entirely bad at it, I got hammered by burn too much, which at the time was dominant at my store. If burn is gone, I might pick it up again.
Jund is also a playstyle I like, but again, really hard to play well with.
I've also looked at blue/green scapeshift decks, with the reprint of scapeshift card, it'd be easy to pick up.
That being said, what deck would you recommend me trying and looking into?
If you want to keep using Snaps, RUG Scapeshift with Search for Azcanta is really cool. I played against it last night and it was...exactly how I want Magic to be played.

Thanks!
How does that play thought? Isn't it too linear game plan or can you with with other ways rather than only scapeshift?
