well esper goryos is more value driven and can just play a more normal game of magic. grishoalbrand is just pure combo. it frequently loses to itself, but better pilots can navigate a longer game to find a window to go off.
from my perspective esper is a relatively new innovation, and still has some room to improve. as for grishoalbrand i can see it evolving by incorporating elements from other gy strategies, but doing so isnt free so there would have to be some serious brewing to strike a good balance.
personally i find esper more appealing, but it doesnt have the resume that grishoalbrand does; which spikes tournaments from time to time.
grishoalbrand supports the fastest kill in the format. a format where other decks of similar speed have eaten bannings for violating the 'turn 4' rule. the fact that grishoalbrand is still around and isnt under the scrutiny of many players should tell you something.
best of luck in your decision.

Thanks for the responses as I am about to head out to a lgs to see what I can do. Probably going to lean more toward the Esper list as it seems as it could be more versatile and if I eventually wanted to give it a try I could pick up the Breaches later if deemed necessary to compete. Thanks again

If you are not a Combo player and not okay with signing up for potential variance, Esper Goryo's is the deck for you. Grishoalbrand is a tough deck to play, especially with all the ups and downs of the deck. I've played both decks before. The first month I played Grishoalbrand, I had a record of 24-1 with many IDs. After my 2nd month playing the deck where I cooled down a bit, I had a 3 month span where I won around 50% of my matches. This pretty much evens out to nearly what my Modern win percentage is. For a minute though, I honestly thought that the deck was seriously busted.

yeah the reanimator archetype is kinda going under the radar at the moment. hollow one or dredge just seem like the better GY strategies, but i occasionally see some pretty interesting lists that are working with the As Foretold + AV + Living End engine with maybe a few goryos thrown in.
definitely going to keep an eye on how those decks develop. there is a lot of space to brew if people are into that sort of thing.

I actually haven't tested those lists, mostly because they look so janky. But I will admit that the Kari Zev's Expertise and Breaking/Entering list looked janky to me too, but when I tested it, it was actually pretty good. It ended up being slightly quicker than BR Grishoalbrand, but less consistent in my testing. So, I could definitely see myself being wrong about the As Foretold/AV/Living End version. Melissa DeTora played it recently at the Modern Super League if I'm not mistaken.

Unfortunately, the idea of a deck with hand disruption/kill spells and also a combo win condition are rare. When playing combo, you tend to play more of a "ignore my opponent" strategy. So essentially, the two things you like are on opposite sides of the spectrum.
That all being said, maybe 4c Gifts Control might work for you. It's a control deck but it sometimes has the Gifts Combo win condition (it's explained in depth in the UW Tron primer linked in my signature). So even though you're trying to play a normal control game, you just randomly have this combo that wins games much sooner. It mitigates a lot of the drain on playing control when games sometimes end on turn 4. I have no idea if the deck is good against Tron, my inclination is to think it isn't great. The Crucible/Loam + Ghost Quarter plan is solid against them, I just don't know how viable that is in actual games.
I think probably everything you want in one deck isn't going to exist. 4c Gifts seems like the closest thing. If I had a better idea of your priority among the different things you want, then we can go find the best deck.
It sounds like you're looking for Grixis Shadow because most decks like GBx, Mardu Reveler (to a lesser extent), and BW Tokens all lose pretty badly to Tron. I guess some here on mtgs will say that they're almost 50/50, lol.
The thing about it is that disruption is not that good against Tron because their deck is very redundant and can top deck with the best of them. But, if you have hand disruption, with Stubborn Denial, and a 6/6 for B, then you stand a chance vs. Tron. Kill spells are also terrible vs. Tron. When I ran Grixis Shadow vs. my friend on GB Tron, I had to keep on 6 with a Terminate. I drew 2 Fatal Push in this game 1. Guess who won? I won the next 2 games with all the Terminate and Fatal Push sided out, putting a quick clock on Tron with Stubborn Denial/Ceremonious Rejection backup. Games 2 and 3 came very easily, in contrast to what happened in game 1.
Other than that, super quick Combo like Storm, Ad Nauseam, Grishoalbrand, and others can be good against Tron. You just want to ignore them, like darksteel88 said, and goldfish them. You don't want to waste time making them discard pieces that they will draw later on anyway. Oh snap, you got my Karn Liberated. Now I have to cast my O Stone, Ugin, Ulamog, Wurmcoil Engine, HUGE Ballista, or Worldbreaker instead. Boo hoo.

I dont think that thoses pure combo decks are something for me... I like to interact with my opponent and not just ignore him.
Sadly enough, that's the opposite way of going around to beat Tron. The best way to beat Tron is to ignore him by either Aggroing him out SUPER early or Comboing out SUPER early.

I've been looking to get into Modern for awhile, and it's a bummer that all the staples are spiking, but I have an itch that Standard can't scratch. At least as far as mastering a single deck and sticking with it over a long period of time. I really want to play a deck that costs less than $1000 to optimally build, is somewhat well-positioned in the format going forward, and is sort of resilient to hate. Affinity and Burn don't appeal to me a ton. Recently I've been looking at RG TitanShift and Mono-Green Tron. Does anyone have any recommendations? Are there other decks I should look at? Thanks!
I am a proponent of Titanshift. I think it is really good and in a solid place right now. It beats slower Aggro decks, Midrange, Tron, and can hang with Control. It's only matchups off-hand that are terrible are quicker Combo decks and super quick Aggro like Infect.
Mono Green Tron is also very strong, but I feel that there's more variance there. The ceiling is probably higher, but the floor is too. IMO

If you like to interact with your opponent, then you want the opposite of a combo deck. Combo decks are basically always trying to interact as little as possible. As the combo player, you're happiest when you get to completely ignore your opponent. And like FCG said, the decks that are good against Tron are decks that ignore the opponent. As it turns out, the best interactive spells are typically bad against Tron. Cards like Bolt and Fatal Push stack up poorly against their creatures, Inquisition doesn't solve any threats, and they tend to go over top of you too quickly.
If you want a deck that has interaction, you're typically looking at control, midrange, or tempo. These are the types of decks playing some mix of discard, removal, and counters. GDS is a decent matchup vs Tron, you have some powerful hitters that can get in under them, as well as some good counters. It's also a very interactive deck, playing a great mix of creatures and interactive spells. Another is UW Control. It doesn't seem like the best on the surface, but as it turns out, 4 Spreading Seas + 4 Field of Ruins makes the matchup pretty decent (don't know the exact number, but I'd say it's no more than 40-60 in either direction). It's a little less interactive being a control deck, but still something to consider.
I know that dredge is not in his top competitive level, so i want to ask you, what is the """""best""""" deck between this 3? In matter of what seems like is best positioned in the actual meta.
Thanks!
Dredge!, humans is the deck to beat so expect a lot of lightning bolt/fatal push in the format (jund/junk/grixis/jeskai/etc). Graveyard hate is "low" right now for the same reason.
And dredge is competitive, not tier 1, but in modern even a tier 3 deck can win a GP.

that BR midrange list. i dont even...what is going on
people are playing decks on like level 3, while this guy is on level 50. Vampire Cutthroat?
ive been a pretty big fan of mardu pyromancer, which is basically like BR midrange with a small white splash to play the front end of lingering souls. a friend has been letting me pilot the deck, and the value engines are insane once you get them online. it also plays a full 7-8 discard spells main deck so there are few decks that it is actually soft against.
hollow one is probably just flat out better than dredge. dredge is fine, but tbh with the results that hollow one is putting up i expect grave hate in the format to go up. dredge can grind way better than hollow one, and is a nightmare for control decks; but im not sure if trying to hose control is where you want to be right now.
burn is always a safe choice, and i think people dont give it enough credit on how many decisions you have in games. that particular list looks to be one of the attempts to port ramunap red from standard, which i have seen pop up a couple of times. not sure it if has legs to stick around because traditional burn or goblins/8whack might just be better.

I need some help picking a deck. In the past I have had R/G tron, PRE ban infect, and I currently have colorless Eldrazi powder assembled. I got bored of those and switched and Eldrazi does not seem to be my playstyle. I started playing for real during the Saga block so The Tolarian Academy combo has basically ruined that archetype for me due to always comparing combo to that deck.
I am also not a fan of turning lots of creatures sideways. Control seems to be in a bad place even with JTMS but I could be mistaken.

Since a year or so I'm playing my beloved tezzerator deck and it has been a pleasure. Still I sometime feel like having a backup deck that is not weak to the same things as my usual one. I'm a player that like to have a deck that have powerful interactions between the cards in the deck. I used to play an esper Sun titan that was mixed with the gift elesh norn un burial rites package. I enjoyed the deck a lot but it was too weak to combo to be successful. So I'm more an UB player but I'm open to any color for this second deck.
Im trying to find a deck that would be faster than tezzerator, harder to hate out and that would be thrive on a meta that is hostile to tezzerator.
Any ideas?
What's the current most well rounded control deck? I've been on jeskai but it has a real hard time against Jund and Tron.
Control always has trouble with Tron. UW is probably the best against it overall, Spreading Seas and all. You can put more Ceremonious Rejection in your SB to hedge.
Buuuuuut, I got a deck for you. UW Turns STOMPS Tron. They literally have no chance. It is essentially a Bye. The guy who gave me this list told me that he never sided a single card against Tron for 2 years before he lost a match finally. He won a 400 person Modern tournament just this past Saturday with Mono Blue Turns, which he said is "more fun." Consider it...at least if you want to smash Tron players.

If you're playing a white deck to make Brave the Elements work, then you have 5c Humans (24/37 are white, not counting Phantasmal Image), various Death & Taxes builds, and then I guess Soul Sisters. Soul Sisters tends not to need a card like that because it has fliers for evasion already. D&T tends not to need a card like that because your opponent can't really stop you even if they have things (because they can't cast spells from mana taxes and land destruction). 5c Humans tends to be interactive enough between Meddling Mage, Reflector Mage, and Kitesail Freebooter, plus they have some various forms of evasion, so I'm not sure they really need it either. They also really don't want to play spells because of Ancient Ziggurat.
Brave the Elements as a card is pretty narrow. It's obviously good when it's good, but how often is that? Opponents can kill things in response. They might also have blockers in different colours. They might also be playing no colours. Or they might not even care about that card because they win around it.
tl;dr - 5c Humans, D&T, and Soul Sisters are good white decks. They probably don't need it. Brave the Elements can be good but it feels a little too niche.

Heh, I was already building UB turns, which plays discard in the SB and fatal push MB, but I can also try swapping a few cards out for spreading seas and easily make this list. I'll give it a shot, thanks!

I only ask because I also cannot afford Noble Hierachs for 5C humans. Being able to throw down all your low mana creatures and alpha swing seemed pretty good. I’ve tried soul sisters before and they always feel so clunky.

I don't know Daw Blade, but I know Caw Blade. You could play a Caw Blade type of UW Control, although I'm guessing that UW Control is just better.
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/
Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander -
Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Want List
Like FoodChainGoblins said, there is not Caw blade alike right now, closest thing is UW control.
Other decks that are not full combo and dont rely on attacking to win (but they could have some creatures that attack):
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-scapeshift-46457#paper : good old ramp, you attack, but win condition is valakut.
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-scapeshift-46437#paper : same as above, but with some control in U!
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-lantern-control-46419#paper : best prison deck in modern
-https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-jeskai-breach-46481#paper: while the deck name is combo, is one of the most versatile deck around (like caw blade?) you can free win with blood moon, win with combo, fateseal with Jace while controling, or the control mirror "bolt snap bolt snap beatdown"
look at the U scapeshift or U breach decks, i think you will want to try one
Any ideas?

Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build)(dead format for me)Brave the Elements as a card is pretty narrow.
Grixis Death's Shadow, Jund, UW Tron, Jeskai Control, Storm, Counters Company, Eldrazi Tron, Affinity, Living End, Infect, Merfolk, Dredge, Ad Nauseam, Amulet, Bogles, Eldrazi Tron, Mono U Tron, Lantern, Mardu Pyromancer
