I am an old twin player, and I've always been in the tempo/combo category, and once twin was banned I was found with no place to stand. I've tried to play kiki-chord, but that isn't a tempo deck nor does it often win with the combo. After a long time of being a legacy player, I have decided it's time to find another modern deck, but no matter how much I search I cannot find a deck that adequately plays both the role of a tempo deck and the role of a twin style combo deck. I like blue, and I've always been a blue player, and I love black and/or red as a secondary color. I've got most of modern and legacy grixis delver, as a lot of the pieces are the same as old twin, and I've got blue red legacy twin built and still play it. I am not looking for a pure tempo deck or a pure combo deck per se, but a decent hybrid of the two.
Sorry, but I should have posted this earlier. Unless you have a disposable income, I'd try to find a way to proxy the deck first to see if you enjoy it. It's always smart to do so. Take it from someone who often just finishes off foil decks just to try and ends up not liking them much sometimes. I have learned...

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)

Shadow and queller are just tempo decks, but knightfall seems to be more my style. Tbh I've found a deck based on shape anew and I've been loving it so far. But I might build both, I am not playing legacy anymore and I know I can afford it.
Hey, guys. Finally found a store I think I like near where I moved to, and wanted to see if there's something I can start playing to adapt to their meta. In the past I've jumped around a lot, so I'm comfortable playing pretty much any playstyle. I also have most of every Modern deck built; just need some advice on what to focus on.
The meta appears to have more Affinity players than any other deck, but I saw a smattering of pretty much everything tonight. I played against Affinity, Titanshift, Midrange Abzan, and Esper Draw-Go. I saw people playing Jeskai Ascendancy, RB Grislebrand Reanimator, and I'm pretty sure there were two Grixis DS players.
I played Bogles (my fully-foiled pet deck) to 2-2, losing to the grindy Liliana-casting Abzan player and the 4-maindeck-enchantment-removal Esper Draw-Go (I swear I'm not salty), but I feel there are probably more fitting (read: better) decks that I can approach the meta with.
Hey all! Casual magic player here looking to get more serious into a format. I was originally going to do Standard but the rotating format really turns me away from it, knowing that if I were to spend $200-300 on say Temur Energy or Ramunap Red, it'll rotate out a year later. Thus I'm looking to get into Modern! I'm willing to spend a more at the beginning than I would on Standard knowing that Modern is an eternal format.
Cards you already own: no modern staples so starting from scratch
Colors you like to play: fine with any color, but I think my playstyle lends more to R/G/B
Style you like to play (control, combo, aggro, midrange, tempo, ramp, rogue): definitely aggro or midrange, i like to be more active rather than reactive
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to (causal, fmn, ptq): starting with FNM, then potentially building up to PPTQ if i stick with it
Budget: for a new modern deck i'm willing to spend i'd say up to $400-500 at the start, for a deck that i could start bringing to modern tournaments and then perhaps slowly build up to a stronger version of the deck over time

Def. try jund. You can build a budget list for now, and then upgrade as you can. That's how I made two legacy decks

Didn't think about delver at all, I looked into it and it sounds really cool! I realized that perhaps investing in colors is better (e.g. fetchlands) so that they can be used in multiple decks. R/U now seems to go along with what I'm looking for with activeness but also responding to opponent's threats. Thus the plan may be going into R/U or grixis delver to start, with some Scalding Tarns and Snapcaster Mages, and then perhaps after playing that deck for a while, maybe go into something like Grixis Death Shadow for a change. Thanks to both for the suggestions!

Hey y'all. I played modern a bit earlier this year and was running a grixis delver list. I got busy and ended up selling my deck so I'm back looking for something new.
I'm mainly trying to decide which color set to invest in: UR or BG. I definitely like the black cards and having a somewhat proactive gameplan but I also like disruption. Basically I'm trying to decide which is better in the long run, which of these colors will have game against any meta. I also like the idea of having a shell that can be turned into a variety of decks. So the UR thing could be Grixis so I can play black. And if I wanna switch I could run different variations of jeskai.
So basically, UR or GB to buy into as the better shell that can be played in virtually any meta and be playable into the foreseeable future. I'm not into the idea of playing a flavor of the week deck and I like the idea of getting to know a deck and mastering it. Any help would be great!!
Hey guys, I am trying to decide on what deck to build next. I like control and mid-range decks. I already own Grixis Shadow, Dredge, Affinity and UW Control. Can't really afford Jund or Abzan. Any suggestions?

After getting tired of playing grixis shadow, I sold some of it's staples and am looking to build a new deck.
I own almost all of jeskai and grixis staples apart from scalding tarns.
I also own most of BGx apart from goyfs and Lilianas, but I can buy them over time.
I'm just hesitant as to what deck to build next.
I want a very resilient deck over time, that can always be competitive, a deck that has interaction and that is more proactive rather than reactive.
Jund, Abzan a Jeskai tempo seem to fit this criteria.
I looked at eldrazi tron but it doesn't look that interactive, and I don't feel safe buying chalice of the void and the rest of the deck due to possible bannings.
What deck would you guys recommend? Jund or Jeskai tempo?
I always enjoyed these decks's playstyle, jund's grindness and jeskai's flash creatures. I just want opinions on which of these would be more fun to play and would be the deck that I'd really try to master.

Thanks PokerKingdave I think you're right about Blue Tron, but not ruling it out completely. Which tokens deck B/W? I do like the look of the Blitzkreig deck, its similar to one i was testing online.
Yes, BW tokens.

I also would like a deck which I can play for at least, a year. I dislike decks like Gx tron with which the game is decided even before playing.

U Tron is a combo/control deck that is pretty fun and isn't to expensive to get started.
I’m looking for a modern deck, I’m open to anything but I would like to win with it. I like value, I want great removal along with relevant threats. I don’t have a price point because I’ve been saving money for a long time. As for staples I own, none really. I’m also afraid of the ban-hammer.

there is also the "blue jund" aka grixis death shadow, is better right now (at least in % meta ) but i would say it has a "higher" ban rate than jundk (but pretty small nevertheless)

I sold out of modern a few years back, but I'm looking to get back into it. I can buy into any deck so price isn't an issue. I'm interested in any deck that can grind out value but is also decently positioned in this metagame. I've been looking at Jeskai Tempo (Queller + Geist), but my impression is that it's a tempo deck first and actually doesn't grind that well. There's Grixis Control which plays a lot more sources of CA, but that deck doesn't exist as far as competitive metagame share goes. Of these two decks, which matchups are favored/unfavored? How do they do against Abzan, Jund, Death's Shadow? Also, is Eldrazi Tron just the best "midrange" deck right now? I've heard it crushes all the fair decks in the format and only loses to fast linear aggro and combo.

Because this one hasn't been answered yet, I guess I'll take it. It sounds like you could just play whatever you want because the meta is so diverse. There's a certain point where the field no longer had a weak spot, so I suggest just finding whatever you think is cool and play it. Personally, I would take Skred to that meta because it eats midrange/control decks while also having decent game against the aggro decks.
I'm also looking to build a second deck actually. I own Skred (my pet deck), along with Legacy Moggcatcher, so I have Chalices, Magus of the Moons, Trinispheres, and Ensnaring Bridges. Thus, I have a few options I'm considering. Sun & Moon looks like a lot of fun, and I've always loved Boros Prison decks. RG Ponza was a fun deck to play, and I already own a few pieces to begin building it myself. I've had my eyes on Merfolk for a while, and with all the reprints coming up I think it may be time to start acquiring pieces. Thoughts?
