So what it seems like is that you want a combo deck that has different win conditions, with a preference for fewer creatures rather than many creatures. With that in mind, here are some options:
1. Kiki-Chord, which is essentially the new version of Kiki Pod. It's not quite the same and not quite as strong, but it's a fine enough deck. It's very similar to the old Kiki Pod deck you remember, but it's slightly less all-in on Kiki itself. Playing Nahiri gives it additional ways to win, whether you opt for a Kiki or Emrakul option. It also ends up being a little more toolbox-style as a result, playing things like Pia and Kiran Nalaar, for example. It still very much forces a combo win condition though, the midrange game plan is relatively weak.
2. Abzan CoCo. It's basically new Melira Pod, but Melira Pod and Kiki Pod were fairly similar in that they have different ways to approach the game. Melira Pod more typically had different angles where Kiki Pod was fairly combo-centric. Old Kiki Pod lists often played cards like Exarch and Phyrexian Metamorph just to give it different options on what could start a chain for the combo. With Abzan CoCo playing cards like Kitchen Finks and Eternal Witness that are just good value-oriented cards, it has a plan B option to avoid feeling like each game is the same.
3. Amulet Titan. If you disliked RG Valakut because it was too similar, this variation has a lot more diversity. There's typically different ways to approach winning the game such that it feels more like a puzzle, especially if you play Hive Mind. You don't get a ton of decisions, but you have to be careful to make the correct one. For example, you might be able to give your Primeval Titan haste or get a Pact of Negation but not both, so how you decide to play it is important. While there's still sort of a general guideline for how games should go, they don't feel entirely samey.
4. UR Gifts Storm. It's the new Storm list, people like it. I'm just mentioning it because you like Storm but I somewhat doubt you playing this.
5. UW Tron. It's similar to Esper Draw-Go but it has more of a proactive win condition. Instead of grinding out every point of damage, UW Tron has the option of Gifts Combo, which is Gifts for Unburial Rites + one of Elesh Norn or Iona, hedging that killing all the small creatures or shutting off a colour can win the game. Even the late game win condition is more proactive in that Emrakul or Mindslaver are proactive and end the game when you get there. So while it's still a reactive deck, it's not a "win on turn 50" deck.
To me, this is as draw go like esper control, but the combo give the offensive that lack esper, and play very different than the straight RG version. https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-scapeshift-20402#online
Maybe modern is not for you (in a good way, i dont like EDH multiplayer for example), but i hope its helps!
Another option Grishoalbrand. It's a reanimation deck that wins using creatures but is very much spell-based. Like Ad Nauseam, you can draw your whole deck the turn you win, and it can win on turn two.

Hey all,
I was a dredge player pre-ban, and I was waiting for the meta to settle a bit before I made a move to something new. Now I think I'm finally ready to try something new. Anyway, here's a little about my playstyle:
As I said, pre-ban I was a dredge player. In other formats I have played Delver, Storm, and LED Dredge in legacy. In Cube, I almost always try to go some sort of Izzet/Grixis tempo-control. In Modern before Dredge, I have played Grixis Delver and Pyromancer Storm. Given this, you may be saying "Why not just play one of the Delver decks in modern right now?" The simple answer to that is that after playing legacy, blue in modern just feels so weak to me. I am open to changing my mind about this, however. If you have any more questions that could help guide your answers I would be more than happy to answer. Thanks in advance.

Hey thanks for the suggestions! Crazy to hear that storm in modern is off of Ascension. I like the lists I've seen that you've pointed me towards, but part of me doesn't really want to play a combo deck anymore. Got anything else? Thanks again!
Hello all, I am new to Magic. I played for a year or two back in the early 2000s, but never competitively. Just started again about a month ago after my brother got into it. Did some research and got myself a Dredge deck. Been having fun with it, but as usual I'm getting bored and want to try something else. I like strategy. I think I want to lean towards some kind of control. Maybe something that can be played differently depending on draws or opponents. Not looking to go to tournaments or anything yet but something like that that would be good at FNMs. Money isn't an issue. Any suggestions?

So! The question is.
Which of these 2 decks are going to be better off in the long run. I dont really have cost concerns, I have many of the UR staples if not all of them if I go looking, so thoughts?
Jeskai Harbinger
Copy Cat (which I have all of).
I guess its a question of if I bother with Harbinger at all, since I already have Copy Cat? I spun up Harbinger once, maybe I just need to give it some more testing?

I'd definitely recommend Baral/Gifts Storm. I've been brewing it with a similar mana base, and it s been fine. I don't think fastlands are run because often you need to hit 4 lands, but I could be misremembering that. The one thing you'll probably want is a set of Deltas and Strands so you can fetch Island or Vents, and then a few Shivan Reef, which are dirt-cheap.
As for the deck, it's tons of fun and Gifts makes it much more consistent. It also means you don't take as long to go off, since with a creature in play, you're guaranteed to win if your opponent doesn't have disruption. The reliance on sticking a creature does weaken it somewhat, but it can still fight through removal with value Gifts and Empty the Warrens.

I've been looking to get into Modern on MTGO with a competitive, not-too-expensive deck (up to ~350 tickets). I provisionally identified Tron as something I'd enjoy playing and started looking at decklists and watching videos for the various variants. I was trying to choose between BG and GW but then I looked at the deck lists from GP Brisbane/Vancouver and realised that Eldrazi Tron is clearly on the rise.
At the same time, I don't like that it's more like a midrange deck rather than classical 'go big' Tron. It's also quite a bit more expensive (mainly owing to the spike in Chalice of the Void prices).
So my questions are: Is the non-Eldrazi Tron still Tier 1? Is it worth waiting a little bit until prices of CotV drop a little bit? Between BG and GW, which is the better option (I'm assuming BG)?
Take my opinion with a grain of salt because I'm not a Tron player. I just play Modern a LOT.
GW Tron and GB Tron are both Tier 1 or pretty close to it still. GB has tools for Combo in Collective Brutality, which also hits mana dorks or gains life in a pinch against Burn. GW Tron has better SB options and is better when Path to Exile is better - against Death's Shadow for instance.
The thing you will be missing out on in Eldrazi Tron is being able to dump threats earlier if Tron is not had, the ability to shut down your opponent with Chalice of the Void, and the ability to put Basilisk Collar on a Walking Ballista or Endbringer. What you will get in return is the ability to Karn/Ugin/Ulamog the ***** out of your opponents until they are devastated not just on the board, but emotionally and mentally.
I personally have always felt Eldrazi Tron to be the "weaker" version (which it's more like Bant Eldazi than actual Tron decks), but right now the ability to Chalice and Basilisk Collar to go with the super strong mana dump in Walking Ballista puts it slightly above GW or GB Tron. That being said, of the 3, I think I'm actually going to run GW with a lot of life gain in the SB tonight (that or Bogles in my Jund infested meta).

Thanks, that's a great reply. BTW, why don't non-Eldrazi Tron decks adopt the Ballista/Basilisk Collar combo? No free slots? Not worth it without also having Endbringer to put the Collar on?
Most non-eldrazi tron lists are relatively creature-light.

Hi eveyone,
i am a long time Jund player and i am currently looking for a second deck to play. I am looking for a deck which rewards you for playing the deck for a long time (like Jund). I already tried out some control variants like Grixis Control / Delver and Jeskai, but these decks kind of felt like Jund as these decks also play lots of removal and have controlling elements inside their builds. So i was thinking about playing Affinity as most Affinity payers i have talked to told me that this Deck rewards playing it very oftenly.
I would like to ask if some of you could share their experience with playing Affinity and if you would reccomend me playing this Deck in the long term? Or do you have other decks to reccomend?
If I'm reading right, it sounds like you're looking for a deck with a high "skill ceiling." In that case, Affinity is a great choice. Arcbound Ravager alone gives you tons of different lines of play to tangle with. On account of Gifts Ungiven, Baral Storm also has super complicated lines of play and takes a ton of reps to work out. But it's not a top-tier deck, if that's important to you, and it plays very unusually.
On whether Affinity is a good long-term deck, it's definitely one of the longest-performing top decks in the format. It's not at risk of being a consistent Turn-4 violator, and WotC has never really shown any signs that they think it's unhealthy in any way. There have been mumblings of Mox Opal eating a ban, but that seems unlikely - especially since that was predicated on Cheeri0s, which hasn't been putting up the kind of results that leads to bannings.
So there you have it. My opinion, at any rate.

Affinity is a good deck and seems like something for you. It always has lots of decision making right from deciding if you're keeping the opening hand. Cards like Arcbound Ravager are naturally going to lead to lots of decision making, but adding in things like manlands and several different creatures that compete for your mana (Ravager, Overseer, Cranial Plating, Etched Champion, Master of Etherium) makes it interesting to figure out how to spend your mana. It can take some time to figure out which ways lead to the most damage and whether you want to play around things or not. For example, you might kill them sooner if you activate the manland this turn, but then you can't develop creatures. Or perhaps the correct line of play is to play around nothing and sacrifice everything to Arcbound Ravager and then sacrifice to itself and move counters on to Inkmoth Nexus.
Affinity comes off to some people as being not skill intensive because it's an aggro deck, but it's one of the more difficult decks in the format. I think the skill floor for playing it is low, but the ceiling is very high. When I started playing it, it took a long time to work through different lines. Knowing what was a keepable hand was also a big challenge to learn, because sometimes hands just aren't explosive enough to kill an opponent, or maybe your one land hand is actually fine.
Affinity is a deck that I don't expect anything to happen to. It's been around since Modern became stable and has always been a tier 1 deck. Sure, the deck gets hated out, but never enough to deter the deck in any meaningful way. There are always talks about it, but I don't think it's going to happen. With Modern currently having no deck above 7% meta share, it just seems so incredibly unlikely.
The only reason I would not recommend Affinity is if aggro isn't your cup of tea. Sure, there's lots of decisions to be made, but at the end of the day, you're still swinging with multiple creatures for lethal damage.
So, I'm a returning mtg player who took a break for close to a year. I mainly played Legacy at my local area and I'm a mono black pox player. I love control. I'm still in a control kick, but I wouldn't mind playing a deck that's mid-range. I played R/B Prowess Delver before I quit. Now, I'm returning to mtg, however, I want to get into modern. There are a lot more people who pay modern where I live. All the card shops play it and a lot of people on my campus play. I only know one store by me who does weekly legacy that has 6 people on average show. The other store does legacy once a month and their pay out is terrible. With that being said I want to play a larger number of people.
Modern seems to work then. Now, I need a deck. I would like to build something along the lines of control, but mid-range as well. There is also one combo deck I really enjoy, because it's hilarious when it goes off. At the same time I'd like for my deck to be usable in legacy, but I'd obviously have to swap some cards out to do it. Right off the bat I thought of 8-rack, Boros Burn, Grixis Control, or Infect. I'm a mono black fan at heart, however, the color has problems by itself. It lacks good enchantment and artifact removal. Also, the top decking is really bad too. You have your opponent within a lock and hey eventually get out of it as you lose steam every turn you can land a W. I'm still stuck on the deck loyalty mindset that I need to break. Yes, playing a deck I love feels nice, but losing all the time due to its inconsistencies and not because the opponent out played you is frustrating.
I played Infect in legacy for a short while and I liked how grindy the games became. You would need to play the field right and attack when you knew you had a clear shot, then the counterspells and pumping commenced. Something about it just struck my fancy. I ended up going back to pox because I missed my baby. I see modern has infect and was considering it, but it's less counter heavy and more hexproof and pump heavy which is pretty interesting. It's more of a glass cannon than its legacy counterpart, but the deck transfers over pretty nicely.
Since I like control I was also leaning towards Boros Burn. Burn stays the same no matter what and it becomes hilarious taking chunks off your opponents life with 1cmc burn spells, swiftspear, and ediolon. Burn transition between legacy and modern quite nicely as well. I love Eidolon. I just coped a playset before it continued to increase in price. This may sway my decision to build it, because they're on their way, but if I don't i'll just hold onto them until the price increase stops and then just profit. Anyway,I think its such a dick card. It's annoying and makes your opponent second guess. Same reason I enjoyed playing Pox in legacy. A lot of annoying cards that put your opponent in a situation where they second guess themselves a lot.
Lastly, Grixis Control looks fun as well, but this doesn't transfer over to legacy as well as the others. I'd just make it into Grixis Delver which isn't a bad deck by any means it's just I don't have as much fun playing it for some reason. Well, except when I drop Angler. Angler makes me smile.
So, in short, I want a deck in Modern that can transition over to Legacy well enough, but it's not necessary, because I can build something else in the future. I would just be easier if I did. It also need to be control to midrange, or just Infect because it's funny. It also needs to be viable in the competitive environment. I don't want to waste money on a deck and it wins at optimal efficiency only 50% of the time. Think you guys can help me out? Thank you all in advance.

Have a budget landbase - 4 spirebluff, 4 vents, 3 sulfur falls plus basics.
Also splashed on 3 blood moons for sideboards. No staples in collection other than UR prowess stuff and I feel like I've gone too far not to stick with UR.
But, I can't afford Snapcasters and Fetches. Especially Tarns.
What can I do with it? I'm tempted by Baral Storm because I can get hold of most of the cards I don't have cheaply, but will it function with the above manabase? I'm feeling pretty lost.
