@LeviatanCL : I'm really not into Melira combo, having to manage a board presence and all that is really not my type. Quicken Scapeshift seems janky, but interesting. I really want another deck that I could compete with and no longer be ''The Ad Nauseam guy'' in my local Montreal scene (although I just love that people recognize me by that)
I was on here a while ago and i like the deck but i don't know which one =(

So I am going to a WMCQ in 2 weeks and I have 2 decks that I can play, 4-Color Rites and Grixis Control. I was trying to use MTGPulse.Com/archetypematchups but it is not working. I am expecting a lot of Bant Humans, GW Tokens, 4 Color and W/R Humans. I do not know how well Grixis Control is against them because I haven't played it much, or how 4C Rites plays against them because at my LGS no one really plays those decks. Any suggestions of what I should play or even another website that will help me beat the meta? (BTW its the WMCQ in the Santa Clara Convention Center hosted by ChannelFireball.)

Wrong forum. This is the Modern (format) forum. I personally would suggest Grixis Control of the 2, but I really don't know Standard too well.

I am looking to buy into modern by focusing on blue and white staples. what would be a good deck in these colors? i am fine with a third color as long as it wont cost me much. i like everything but combo, and i am looking for something to play at a high competitive level as i have a SCG Open coming up.

I have a solid collection, and I can build pretty much any deck except for Infect (I am getting pretty close on that one though). I have been playing 4-color Bring to Light Scapeshift for awhile and that has been fun.
I play exclusively at FNMs at my LGS. I don't play in big tournaments or anything. Infect is by far the most popular deck at my LGS (probably 33% of the store plays it). I have been doing okay against it with BtL-Shift. With my configuration of BtL-Shift, I am at about 50/50. But I would not mind switching to a deck that has a 60/30 or even 70/30 matchup against Infect.

almost any lightning bolt deck have a good MU against infect (mardu, jund, jeskai, burn, etc), so go with the one that you like the most and can beat the rest of the meta (if there a good tron regulars in your FNM, play burn over jund for example).
Thank you for the comments. I think I will go with Nahiri Jeskai. Infect and Burn are the most popular decks at my LGS. Bolt and Snap-Bolt should be good against Infect. Helix and Snap-Helix should be good against Burn. So I think that will work. Thank you again.

Cards you already own: Not much to brag about. I'm essentially starting from scratch i just have rares from an SOI box i bought and random rares from the occasional booster i buy when i go to Walmart/Target. However im looking to build my collection on MTGO so those are just cash fodder most likely, unless i can trade them online for MTGO cards.
Colors you like to play: When I first started playing I was a grixis fan, but have been pulled into the RGx midrange world since then. However, i want to start my MTGO collection with 4x Scalding Tarn so ill be starting off UR/Grixis
Style you like to play: Control, midrange. Anything but affinity really lol
Level you want to play at, or aim to build up to: good enough to make somewhat of a profit on MTGO.
So like I said above im going to start my MTGO collection with 4x Scalding Tarn. MY biggest question is (regarding the Modern format) how much of a difference is there between Grixis control and Grixis Delver? Is there a huge disparity in the competitivness? (i know i spelled that wrong)
Believe it or not, Grixis Delver has seen more results lately. I think it depends mostly on what you're trying to beat and your play style. I think starting with 4 Scalding Tarn is a good choice. It gives you options later on to play Storm, UWR, Grixis, and several other decks.

Yea the two decks look very similar, though honestly the decks labeled control look more like midrange to me. I'm used to my control decks having 26/27 lands and 6 drops, not 23 lands and topping out at 4 lol.
The biggest difference between the two build would be Cryptic, so ill probably just start off with Delver, as that seems a bit cheaper and the cards for Delver are essentially the same for a more old fashioned control build.

Grixis Delver is a fast tempo deck that wants to kill sooner than later, but isn't afraid to take the game to the later turns if need be. It can also seemingly better utilize Young Pyromancer since the deck plays more proactively.
Grixis Control is generally much slower and basically just wants to answer every single threat before eventually winning through bolt-snap-bolt, Creeping Tarpit, etc.
In my opinion and experience, Grixis Delver is the much better deck. As a Jeskai Nahiri and Knightfall player, I've never had any problem outright destroying Grixis Control. The Delver variant on the other hand, has been a very rough match up for me.
I may also just be salty that I kept losing to Grixis Delver during my first ever paper tournament back when I played Splinter Twin, and as a result, have it branded into my brain that Grixis Delver is an underplayed powerhouse.
I will say this. One of the allures to playing Grixis Control before Splinter Twin was banned is that it beat Twin and especially UR Twin. I'm definitely not saying that it was the only reason because certainly it was not (also around 50/50 vs. Jund whereas Delver would have a tougher time). It is "technically" Midrange, but the lack of a true Control deck (by my standard) has led to it and UWR being called the Control decks of the format.

The Jeskai decks with Nahiri that have been popping up seem more like something i'd want to play if i were to play contorl. They do get to play Path which, I've read, is the best removal spell in Modern. In fact i was drawn to some type of Naya deck when i first started researching Modern a few weeks ago due to the ability to play both Path and Bolt, so maybe some type of Jeskai Delver list would be competitive, though not having Tasigur or Angler would probably hurt the deck too much.
I'll start with Scalding Tarns and flying insects and go from there. Thanks for the input people
This is less of a "what do I play" and more of a "do I sell to play something else." I managed to acquire UW Gifts Tron a few months ago and I enjoy playing the deck. The weird thing is, despite being a control mage, my pet deck is BW Tokens. That is my absolute favorite deck to play. So much so that I've finally shelled out for my Bitterblossoms. Now why do I mention this? Well, Legacy might become a thing at my LGS soon, and I really like the idea of mono black control in Legacy. Furthermore, Tron just seems too slow for my local meta. This leaves me at a cross road. Do I sell out of Tron to play Legacy, even though this means I no longer own a Modern control deck? Do I only sell part of it and keep the Colonnades and other control staples, after which the deck is pretty cheap? I've only played it once since getting it together, so I guess I subconsciously don't care for it, even though I LOVE control.

if you would sell to play something like miracles or lands or another proven legacy control deck (standstill?) i would say go for it, but mono black control is not a competitive deck.
More than selling modern to buy legacy (thats fine), the bad part is selling a good/proven/competitive deck for something that you could hate or throw to the trash in the future.

So, big NO, dont sell.
What if my deck of choice is Enchantress? I did the math I can sell all of Tron for Enchantress with no duals (I cam get those later). My issue is that I love control, but I'm only and FNM player and I always reach into my bag for BW Tokens. I always think "maybe next week" but it just doesn't happen. I feel way more comfortable with Tokens. Do I sell if I found "my deck?"
