Totally forgot, but I do have 4 thoughtseizes in there. I dont have any inquisitions, but I do have access to a couple Lilianas. I have a couple mainboard duress in place of the inquisitions until I can acquire some. I really appreciate the feedback. 4 butcher does feel somewhat greedy, but outside of elves, Ive never had a hard time surviving long enough to ge tthem on the field. The nalaars are still untested but they feel great and do give a couple more shocks if necessary along with more bodies. I have also thought about the mentor, but don't have any copies of him.
Packed my deck off to Modern FNM the other night, but did abysmal 1-3 and dropped. Part of that was from surprise matchups (none of the Eldrazi I was expecting showed up), and part from bad draws - at 23 land, you'd think I wouldn't die turn six with two land on the mat! I've since reconfigured the deck and now I'm up to 25 land, and it's playing much better. It stands to reason, actually: I'm playing more the Control end of Midrange. UWR Control plays 26 land, even. It's not so much that a 4-drop curve-topper is a back-breaker, but a lot of the deck is glutted up along the 2-drop / 3-drop spot.
Butcher of the Horde is definitely an all-star. Every time I got to swing him in a game, I won that game. I'm even cutting the Olivias for now and just going with a full playset of Butcher for now.
Young Pyromancer + Lingering Souls is definitely a blast. Turn 2 Pyro into turn 3 Souls into turn 4 flashback Souls puts seven bodies out - and that's just two cards! Great for gumming up the board against aggro or presenting a wide clock for the opponent to deal with while you busy yourself drawing finishers.
Blood Artist is also pulling his weight here. One game I had both out at once with a token flood and my opponent counted the creatures on the board and decided against something, he'd obviously draw a board wipe.
The build I have been messing around with is a little more Midrange Control, with my threats being Goblin Dark-Dwellers, Monastery Mentor, and Lingering Souls. I am currently trying out 2x Blood Moon main. Sea-Gate Wreckage has been ice as Hellbent is pretty easy to achieve, but I have needed to run Talisman of Indulgence since I don't want to add pain lands to the mana base (making my own Moons a liability). There are other C sources I could run, but I like being able to tap for at least two of my colors.
It's early days, and I have not tested all that seriously yet.
Why nobody plays Lightning Helix? It's a Lightning Bolt against decks where Bolt is good, and it's lifegain maindeck against Burn (and Affinity too, but against Burn you could consider it to be 'hate')
Inquisition of Kozilek it's really good vs linear, fast decks. Not so much against Tron (but it does some work there if you want to survive until turn 3-4), and I don't know vs Eldrazi
The only thing I don't like about Goblin Dark-Dwellers (besides it's 5 mana) it's that the trigger is not that relevant: Painful Truts doesn't work, Lingering Souls has flashback, I don't play Anger of the Gods anymore and that leaves the removal package and the lonely Kolaghan's Command I run. What's your experience with it?
I believe WoTC's new policy is to make sure that every color can enjoy the exciting gameplay mechanic of making undercosted dudes and then turning them sideways. Clearly the future of magic.

Like I said I have not had a lot of serious testing, but in my list the Crackling Doom, K. Command, and Bolt are all pretty good most of the time. Path and Terminate have targets a lot of the time too. LD out of the SB too, if I need something else.
GGD being 5 mana makes it top end, but a 5/5 with menace is nothing to sneeze at.
too much empty burn to be a control deck, doing 2 damage isn't going to win the game even if you get to scry. the planeswalkers are cute but weak, where is Lily she is real control. missing dark confidant and the mardu charm looks super weak. i could do a half an hour of research and make a better decklist i use to play this in legacy RIP vindicate

GGD is 4/4 The thing is I can't play a lot of Kommands just because of my creature count: 2 P&K Nalaar, 1 Olivia, 2 Stormbreath (lower than most list, I think). What LD do you run in the SB? I have Fulminator, that works well with KC but bad with GGD

Tell that to WUR Control (it existed and worked before, but lost popularity lately). what 2 damage and scry are you talking about? I wouldn't play more than 1 Mardu Charm, mostly as a fifth Removal/Souls/Discard... it's a lot of mana for the effect, but it's nice to have the versatility.
I encorage you to give us half an hour of your time so we can play a better version of this deck. Most people on this thread would be thankful.

I have not given much thought to it, but off the top of my head the Eldrazi Sowing Salt (name is elluding me) would be great. Even Molten Rain or Boom//Bust. My creature count at the moment is only 6, and I find plenty to do with my 2x K. Command.
Hey guys so I took a Mardu midrange deck to FNM a couple days ago and went 2-1-1, winning against Mill, Grishoalbrand, drawing against 4C Gifts and losing to junk midrange. I learned many things, firstly, swords are definitely good in this meta, also tidehollow sculler is insane, and our deck most likely folds to multiples of liliana or rhino. After some retooling here is my updated list:
So I was looking for cards in my binders when I came accross Parallectric Feedback which I think might just be the best sideboard card we have against tron outside of LD, the card even gets around leyline due to it's wording which is kind of funny. Also, main deck fulminators seem pretty good in general, it never felt bad, especially since worst case scenario is I play fulminator, try to equip a sword to it, and if they respond I can at least blow up one of their lands which I noticed does matter even in matchups outside of tron. If you guys want to see my even more rough decklist that I took to FNM you can find it in the DEGA deck creation thread.
My creature count is a bit low, I may cut a steelshaper's gift in favour of a third dark confidant, well see.

Besides of keeping 4 mana open, you are thinking in cards vs cards... The key here is to face the matchup as a whole, not only deck vs deck but what you are doing vs what they are doing aka strategies.
Regarding Fulminator, they are not that bad in the maindeck. Obv good vs Tron and Control, nice against BGx, and kills manlands against Affinity and Infect. After the Twin ban (and before the Eldrazi PT fiasco) I made a list with MD Fulminators, Bobs, Lavamancers and Soulfire Grand Master.
BANBAN: I would try to add more Lightning Helix. Having cheap removal is always good vs Affinity/Infect/Burn, and helps when you have to be the beatdown

It's not the same deck, or at least it wasn't when this thread started those decks were aggroish/tokens, with Young Pyromancer and Dark Confidant, and here we tried to create something with lots of removal, some discard, some PW and resilent finishers. Kinda as WUR control and WUR Midrange, same core but different decks.

I'm starting to love the idea of Mardu Aristocrats. We could even pack a combo here with Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit, Murderous Redcap, and Viscera Seer. The more I explore Mardu, the more fun it gets!
