This card was definate 4x in its Decks & did great in T2.
For 4 Mana: Its 5/5 + Evasion + Instant-Speed & therefore the further posibility to kill a creature like Tarmogoyf sized.
& it can be flashbacked with Snapcaster Mage.
im playing it in a Bant-Deck & i cant understand why this card hasnt found its way into Modern.
It gets killed by bounce effects like vapor snag and cryptic command.
It cannot be fetched with birthing pod or chord of calling.
Gets hit by Abrupt Decay.
It doesn't do anything right after you cast it (unless you can ambush/block), it's just a beater. Goyf is a better big dumb beater.
Compare to Siege Rhino. Cost is comparable and the rhino has -1 attack. But it has a relevant effect when entering the battlefield, meaning even if it gets killed right away you still get some value out of it, and it can be podded for, blinked,...
Darkbrew, i really gotta contradict with you. Selesnya Decks used to run 4x of this card & it was a success.
The is undoubtly very good, but the Meta is the only issue. Of course it has its advantages too.
Its likely to beat Tarmogoyf in combat even as a surprise & has Trample & contributes to your graveyard, which can be abused nowadays too easy.
The card is solid, but as with so many other good, but not always derp amazing. There's just not a place for it. I could see it finding a niche home for exactly the reasons you state, it's an instant, but outside of the niche for a draw-go, there just isn't much place for him.

If Bant control ever becomes a thing this will probably see play in it. Of course, Bant Control probably wont ever become a thing. Still, Snapcastering this would be fun.
It's a good card, but nothing that will define or change a format. Part of its problem is that it competes with too many other 4 cmc cards that are of similar or higher power level. Ideally, it would likely see play in a flash-oriented midrange / control deck such as Bant Flash. The problem here is that it competes with creatures like Restoration Angel, which are probably slightly better, without having as restrictive mana requirements.

Wurm is a good rate, the problem is cards like spell pierce, vapor snag are a better rate....one of the shops I go to has a really fun event called 'bad modern nite' and this would be an awesome for that....but unfortunately for competitive ptq/gp style of play likely not, great for fnm though
The fact that he's claiming it will eat a goyf, thats a 4 mana spell for a 2 mana spell. Not only that it has no effect upon entering the battlefield and can be dealt with efficiently by a majority of the room between path, a decay and vapor snag. Notice how most 4 drops in modern do something even if they get answered cheaply, to avoid bad tempo.
Eating a Goyf is hardly bad tempo even if it's 4cmc vs. 2cmc since you're not trading but get to keep the token. Plus 4 mana for a 5/5 with trample and flash is slightly above the curve if you compare it with other beaters in that range.
But the fact that it's a token and that it runs into Pierce is a problem. But I think the card is worth having an eye on.
It might be one of the worst times for promoting Advent of the Wurm right now. It gets hit by Spell Pierce, Izzet Charm, and Negate (and I've started to see previously unprecedented maindeck Negate), Thalia taxes it (so it almost can't be played in GW Hatebears), it can't be Podded into (ergo, the very popular Pod won't play it), Vapor Snags are at an all-time high, and Junk/Abzan would rather play Siege Rhino because it gains life and has a nonzero chance of killing opponents the moment it lands (i.e. they can boot it with removal immediately, but they lost their last 1-3 life and died).
Flash and 5 power are pretty swell, though, and Trample is nifty on both it and Siege Rhino, but Polukranos, World Eater also sees no play despite having the same cmc, having 5 power, being in gentler colours, and being able to kill stuff that refuses to block it.
Flash is a really powerful ability though. I mean how often do you get value from Resto outside of Pod? It's usually just a 3/4 dork with flash which is still worth it since being able to hold up Cryptic + Resto is really good. Especially when you get a chance to ambush or cast her EOT to kill Lilly or Karn.
If Advent was a dork, I think it would be played a lot.

I sometimes make Restoration Angel blink V. Clique/Wall of Omens and occasionally make her blink Tiago (ewww effectively 5+-mana Resto). When she and Geist of Saint Traft are in a deck together, Resto blinks Traft fairly often when he suicides. She blinks nothing half the time counting my Pod games, though.
Resto flies and doesn't need green mana, though. She often deals more damage to walkers (Trample ground pounders need to get through Goyf/Courser of Kruphix/Siege Rhino/manlands first), and she can profitably block Delver/V. Clique/opposing Restos.
try it in bant deck with snapcaster mage, I wouldn't play a full 4 of them though, otherwise you need to be building around it, and at 4 of them in a deck, you might as well get on the restoration angel bandwagon at that point, since that path to victory is well proven.

Here are the two biggest reasons why I've never considered it in Modern:
1) It gets taxed by Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. GWx creature decks love Thalia.
2) It gets killed way too efficiently by Vapor Snag and Cryptic Command's bounce mode. I'm not saying that all tokens are unplayable, but this is just too big an investment into one single token.

Storm Crow is strictly worse than Seacoast Drake.

Maybe Advent of the Wurm might see more play if it were a genuine creature card as you mentioned...
...Competing with Thrun/Polukranos/Obstinate Baloth/Wilt-Leaf Liege/Hero of Bladehold/arguably Elspeth, Knight-Errant/Siege Rhino in Junk hurts, though.
