I'm all fine with them dropping mana dorks. Seems good for the deck. BUT. I don't think I agree that taking out glittering wish makes the deck better. I actually think it makes the deck worse. It also just makes the deck less interesting, or less appealing to me anyways.
I'll mark this as the day that cruise got banned. Not that its broken, just because how much of it is being played in the above, and how good it is against those same decks, and how everyone will freak upon seeing that.
I disagree. The Worlds metagame is just too insular for Wizards to make decisions based on it. The next two GPs will have to follow the Worlds trends for anything to get banned.
ROFL @ Tom Martell
Trying to back out of his play, and it wouldn't even have prevented the loss.
It was winnable by Martell, but it would have taken a very specific decision and a very high-level inference about the gamestate. Hard to do if rested, let alone in the high-stress arena of Worlds. Props to commentators for an incisive and critical examination of that match!
And...

JA Storm, most broken deck IN THE HISTORY OF ALL MAGICZ, loses to UR Storm AGAIN despite Storm being "dead" since 2013.
The Wizards website sucks so bad. Takes forever to load and lags my MTGS tab too. I'll do you guys a favor and paste the JA decklist here so you don't have to put up with that crap.
Like seriously, how is this deck winning any game 1s? Attacking with Fatestitcher and Faerie Conclave?
Is this how the deck is supposed to work? You get a bunch of Conclaves on the battlefield, or Stitchers in the yard, animate them, cast one or two spells, and swing with a team of 3/3s or so? Cause that's not combo, dude.
P.S. Don't ask me to update the JA primer with this decklist. It's not a combo deck. Start your own thread called Jeskai Ascendancy Control or Jeskai Ascendancy Tempo if you want to.
Can someone explain to me what's happening at Martell v.Jensen? I have no sound right now so I'm completely lost.
Jensen wins. There was an issue with the order of spells resolving after Jensen cast Manamorphose, Martell casts DTT and then Wear/Tear on Ascension, and then Martell said he passed priority. It sounded like Martell made a misplay and then realized the misplay and tried to back out of it, which Jensen didn't allow to happen. The funny thing is that I don't think it would have mattered anyway, given Jensen's hand. Martell's only hope was to either DTT in his main phase and then win on the spot, or to DTT and pick a Remand and then double Remand the Manamorphose to keep Jensen off red mana. But he already missed the boat on both those play trees by the time the judges got involved.
Is everyone playing combo, or have I just chosen the wrong time to start watching? Every match they're cutting to is bleedin' combo versus combo.
There are more combo players here than at any other post-KTK event, but it was just due to luck that all of them happened to run into each other in these rounds. At least the games are interesting to watch, especially that Jensen/Martell one.
Izzet. I really need your opinion on this one mate. I like the newer storm decks, but are these non glittering wish versions better? I mean it could just be bad against storm. What do you think? I think fate sticher (another of bad Bs calls right? Dudes always on top of these techs...) is the better plan, but cutting wish seems crazy to me.

Pros have been totally open about this kinda thing. In small world events like this, they say that its better to play combo than anything else. Basically, play non interactive win plans, so that way sideboards matter less (both stuff played against them, and your side matters less). You have less rounds to play through, so you have a better window of winning via luck. I beleive reid duke was the first to really jump on this, with boogles, and he said what I'm sayin.
It's not a combo deck, I wouldn't touch it. It's like a tempo or control deck with the gimmick that you can animate your lands, and then those lands can cast spells for free.
It looks like an absolute pile lol, good job on Storm for beating its ass
P.S. And it just dies to grave hate. Good luck unearthing Stitcher, or delving, or casting Unburial Rites. Gotta kill your opponent with Faerie Conclaves lol, Colonnade is too mainstream.
yet more reasoning for me to beleive the version with green is better. Again, ya dont need to play a mana dork... but wishing for crazy stuff like that too win.
Gotta say I am not liking McLaren's list at all. 3x Bolts? 2x Helix? Seriously? 4x DIG THROUGH TIME?? He doesn't even run Serum Visions or Thought Scour, so how in the hell is this a good idea?
Seriously it is gross. Makes me sad, because I love UWR. 4x Bolt, 4x Helix, 3x Electrolyze should have been in that deck without question.
He basically thinks out of the box. He did the same thing at his PT Win with the Kiki-Jiki, Resto and Wall engine/kill. It may be good in this meta, or even be good general, but you can't judge it without testing it. And btw. he plays more sweepers.

He plays more sweepers? I see 1x Supreme Verdict in the main and 1x Anger in the side. I dunno, maybe I am missing something here, but it looks bad.

Wait, the commentators made some good points today and I was surprised by their insights.
Wizards sold their soul to star city trading moral integrity for knowledge. Shady back alley deals.

So they are all 1-3 in the Modern standings? I'd calculate it myself but I can't find the standings at the end of the Modern rounds.

It looks like they accidentally put him on the same sideboard the other Storm players are on, when his list has a different maindeck.
Mantis Rider is in floch's sideboard.

That is the most pimp slapped thing Ive seen in magic to date.
"Get that weak ***** off my playmat."
lol, but for real. Willy vs Black, Rock vs Pod talk about the best players at the deck repping.
