This card currently sees minimal play, outside of potentially Ad Naseum Combo. Should it be seeing more play as a 1-of in other combo-based lists? Has anyone tested it in other shells? If so, what were the results?
No idea of this is correct or not but I would assume that anyone who wants turn 2 plays on turn 1 are actually playing Spirit Guide instead of caverns.

It sees play in grizzel combos too. The thing is you have to reliably be able to use 1 on turn 2/3, if you draw it. grizzel can do its combo with BR1 mana in one turn. so there's its opening.
and ad naseum can use it to cast adaseum as extra mana, as the deck doesnt actually use colored mana until it comboes, and even then it only uses WBBRR3 to do the full combo, RR being automatic mana because they draw spirit guides, so they only need to worry about getting 3 colored sources in there, 2 if they stick a Pentad Prism, 1 if they turn 1 suspend a lotus bloom.
So like i was saying, you need to be able to easily utilize it as a colorless land naturally played to justify it. Storm cant do that so storm doesnt run it. Theres the secret reason behind its lack of play.
I hope this isn't only market street discussion, but I feel like this card has potential. All it takes is some quick combo to utilize this card and it will spike. I figured this card would be at bulk prices and I would get some myself, but this is what I found.
Gemstone Caverns - $2 each
FOIL Gemstone Caverns - $6 each
It was a bit high for me to speculate on.
But as for seeing play in current decks, probably no.
