As always, keep khans discussion here. You may still talk about spoiled card in deck threads, but you may use this for general khans impact on modern, new mechanics helping old/new decks, or to talk about individual spoiled cards.
He's 4 cmc for 2 power and dies to bolt, meaning he won't be played in an aggressive deck...
But that ability... RAID. Gimmie one good 3 cmc or under raid user whose above the curve and I will slam it into my zoo deck. Nacatls turn 1, than swing for 3, only to let me shock someone for 5, or even kill their bird while I get a strong body out of it? Count me in.

I believe Raid is actually an ability word, so Raid will always have different effects triggered off of you have a creature at this turn. Most likely this will be the only creature that shocks upon ETB.
Raid seems kind of interesting, though they really didn't want to give inspired a chance, did they? It's basically Inspired's very aggressive brother.
Raid is: Whenever ~ enters the battlefield, if you attacked with a creature this turn, X effect.
The Mardu Heart-piercer, as a 4 mana 2/3 with Raid = Shock, seems kind of overcosted for Modern.
Well, problem with inspired is it does nothing until a turn later AND if its tapped. This just rewards you for attacking, which in an aggro deck is awesome. While I agree this one is over costed, since its a new mechanic, its likely to have at least one pushed card, if not more. Recently R&D said they wanted to push a bit more aggro into eternal formats. This looks like the chance to do it.
I mean, look at that ability, even the way you said it. "Whenever ~ enters the battlefield, if you attacked with a creature this turn, X effect."
The only deck that can really abuse this is aggro. Midrange can... kinda? But its forcing you to take your big goyf, stop the ability to block, only to get a shock out of it. Its like made for sligh decks, which zoo is. More or less definition of sligh aggro is "Have a good curve. Value your creatures as repeatable sources of damage, use burn/removal to clear the way." This is, more or less, card advantage for an sligh deck.
I know I know, Inspired isn't that impressive, it just kinda irks me that Theros has no (Known) Modern playable dudes, as Greeks are awesome in mein eyes, but that's neither here nore there.
What I want to know, is Raid the Mardu keyword, or is it spread out like Morph? A Blue Raider would pillage cards, flavorful and awesome. I imagine it's just Mardus, though.

Oath of the Gatewatch; the set that caused the competitive community to freak out over Basic Lands.
To note, I'm sure this is an awesome draft card and at least one raid ability is probably going to be pushed for modern, but this isn't it.
I want to see a cheap, aggressive, red raid card with haste and a very good raid effect. Do you play it on your first main and attack with an aggressively costed dude, or do you attack, then play him for his ETB effect?

I'm expecting good things from Raid. You can slap that mechanic on just about anything, so it's only a matter of time when usable effect intersects with reasonable cost.
Of course, that's assuming Khans is putting the power levels back on the rise...

Let me guess, a Faithless Looting effect?
Nah, raid is really bad in the deck, you want to cast your stuff main one so you can actually attack with hasty things. I was talking more for an aggro deck that isn't affinity, plus I though the idea of Haste and Raid would create an interesting design space where you have to decide which of the cards major benefits you need more.

[quote from="Lantern »" url="http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/568542-khans-of-tarkir-spoiler-thread?comment=2"]To kick things off, let me say about this guy:
The mechanic it self is quite intriguing. If we see a pushed enough 2-3 drop it could be a huge boon to Zoo decks.
That said, this guy isn't it. Its a Boltable 4drop that still only produces 2 damage on ETB, and its not even a 3/3.
Mardu Heart-Piercer is just a bad Murderous Redcap, but the Raid ability looks promising. It only cares if you attacked, not if you dealt combat damage, so it's easier to trigger.
Cryptic tapping down your guys before combat makes you sad, though they probably will side out Cryptic if your deck is aggressive enough.
Raid has a lot of promise. You have a lot of control over the trigger, unlike say Bloodthirst.
Too bad this wasn't a 2/1 for 1R. Might've made the 'completion' of the broken CMC 2 cards.
B will have a discard trigger, which if powerful enough might feel Blightning-esque, which is always cool.
There will probably be some sort of land destruction. Something on the power level of Fulminator Mage to hate on problematic land cards would be nice.
What about a Raid reanimator? Like a B or WB creature that brings a creature back to life when having attacked. There are two possibilities in this:
Reanimaid 4B
Creature - Human Cleric
Raid - When ~ enters the battlefield, if you attacked with a creature this turn, return target creature from your graveyard to the battlefield.
3/3
And more relevant to Modern:
Resurraid 1W
Creature - Human Cleric
Raid - When ~ enters the battlefield, if you attacked with a creature this turn, return target creature with converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield.
2/2
Don't know if we will see Resurraid; for two mana, you could chain all four of them into the battlefield from the graveyard.
But you have to admit, that'd still be all kinds of cool.
Though, my kingdom for something silly like, I dunno:
Guy Who's a Third of a Proclamation of Rebirth W
Creature
Raid - When ~ ETBs, if you attacked blah blah blah return a creature with cmc 1 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield under your control blah blah blah.
1/1
Unless someone wants to argue a self-recurring fireteam of weenies can indeed be a legitimate threat...
I'm worried that we are going to see some Phage style morph creatures. Something that says "When BEST MORPHER EVAR is turned face up, if its morph cost wasn't paid, you lose the game." That's going to put my inner Johnny in a bad mood.
Thousand Winds is a step in the right direction. It's got a really aggressive body (Dismember proof + Flying!), and can really blowout an Affinity or Twin charge. Unfortunately, it still suffers from the same issue as other morph cards (you pay 3 for an investment that dies to basically any removal in the format), but the reward is at least powerful.
Woah, if you Exile/bring back a Morphed dude, it comes back as Not Morphed and counts as Flipped?
Yes, thats why death and taxes run red akroma sometimes.
Also should note that you can reuse raid stuff with flickering too. swing, raid, end, next turn, swing, flicker, end. This also means chances of a flicker raid is actually not that low, so long as it is in fact in the WBR or RWU clan, and it says "flicker other" on it.
Edit: Yep, misread the question. Lord Owlington is correct. It doesnt count as flipped, but its just face up.

No. It enters face up, but does not trigger any of it's"when this card is turned face up" triggers.
The face down creature leaves play, then a new face up creature enters play. At no point does the game see the face down creature turn face up.

What's the big deal? You could have played multiple Righteous Avengers for years now.

You're not Johnny enough, otherwise you'd be thinking of ways to donate it to your opponent and break it open.
I don't think any Morph creatures will be playable in Modern, unless the creature can be flipped for 0 mana (e.g. Zombie Cutthroat) or is meant to be hardcasted (e.g. Birchlore Rangers). It's hard to justify paying 3 mana on something as vulnerable as a 2/2.

My guess is that we get 2-3 pushed Modern cards with Morph, only 1 of which will be playable. I also would bet we get a pushed Break Open variant that targets your own cards.
There will also be a handful of enchantments to go with Constellation, much like how RTR block had some to compliment Theros. We may get something that breaks something in in that plane in half.
