Bubble Hulk and Poached Eggs promoted to Developing Competitive
Wow. I don't pay much attention to the Eggs thread these days but I made the original Poached Eggs list (which was really just some post ban adjustments to the deck), neat to see it doing that well.
nice article, ktken. I can't help but wonder if Jund made a resurgence because it's generally what spikes like to play. As a Jund player myself, it's frustratingly hard to police the aggro decks, while also being prepared for big mana and random combos thrown my way.
I went to a 64 person modern tourney yesterday. I was at top/upper mid level tables most of the day as I finished 3-2-1 and saw at least 2 GW hatebears decks at the tables (with maybe more at lower tables, as I didn't really look around much

is this deck a new player in the meta?
My guess is that the deck sees an uptick after Wescoe's performance, but that it still doesn't have enough power to be a Tier 2 regular.

makes sense, I forgot he did well with that deck recently. it seems like it can do well when people don't expect it or don't know what to do against it but it seems like it won't stick around once people hate it out
Have we seen a significant metagame shift in regards to storm and UW titan on paper? I haven't seen either deck for a in paper except when I'm playing them but they both have seen a pretty significant uptick on MTGO.
I suspect that UW titan will drop back to developing soon but I'm not sure.

Storm was never really present and it's not present this time around either. UW Control and UW Titan had been doing well in the fall but now they've fallen back out of Tier 2.
The metagame article is coming out tomorrow, which means the forum update will happen shortly thereafter. You can check out the Nexus Top Decks page for a quick preview of how this will affect the rankings: http://modernnexus.com/topdecks/
UW control and UW titan are both in tier two right now. I didn't expect storm to change tiers but I'm expecting a bit of an uptick after Reid Duke and Huey Jenson played it at the GP.

Wow, that grixis hype is almost neutered !
Not sure what you're referring to. Grixis isn't performing very well right now, so there's no reason to hype it up. The only decks that get hyped in metagame review articles are those that have the performance and numbers to back up the buzz.
It is looking like Elves maybe falling off as Teir 2 soon. They seem to have greater participation in Day 2 then their total representation, but it is probably the rerise of Twin and the numerous small linear aggro strategies causing more red sweeper play in decks. Some versions of Elves can survive the Red Sweepers, but lose to Twin and others have a better time against Twin, but are weaker to removal. It maybe the Card Advantage versions whether Lead/Messenger/Company or just Lead/Company may prove better in this environment then Chord lists as they have more grinding power, but would need to have more SB cards dedicated to Twin and Anti-Sweeper strategies like BTF which makes them a little slower and therefore more vulnerable to good inevitability decks like Tron, Amulet Bloom, and other Turn 5/6 combo decks.
Here's a high-level overview of the changes across the forums. As usual, this reflects Modern metagame data derived from prevalence-based metrics, including finishes from over 100 paper events and about 50 on MTGO, with some additional weighting give to Grand Prix and Open finishes and Day 2s. Tier definitions can be found in their respective subforums.
Infect, Merfolk, and Grixis Twin moved from Tier 1 to Tier 2
Ad Nauseam promoted from Developing Competitive to Tier 2
UW Control, UW Titan, and Grixis Delver moved from Tier 2 to Developing Competitive
Knightfall promoted from Deck Creation to Tier 2
We have some weird classification issues going on with Grixis Control/Grixis Midrange and with Knightfall. On the Grixis side of things, we have some overlapping discussion between the Blue Jund thread in Deck Creation and the Grixis Control thread in Tier 2. There's a lot of fluidity between these decks, but because discussion of various Grixis strategies is already happening in the Grixis Control thread, that's going to stay as the Tier 2 representative.
As for Knightfall, the Tier 2 rise came from a combination of Blue Zoo, Bant Company, and more conventional Bant Combo lists. The Knightfall thread also has a lot of different lists under consideration, which makes classification very messy. For now, we are promoting the entire Knightfall thread, knowing that we might refine classifications later.
Feel free to respond to this post with any feedback on these two issues or questions/comments/concerns about the update generally!
Question - Naya Company is listed as Tier 2, but I didn't see a dedicated thread for it. Is it folded in with the Zoo thread, or am I missing something?

Essentially, yes. You'll have to ask Lantern for more details, but basically all the Zoo variants are folded into that thread. I think we had more distinction between these threads at one point, but Lantern combined them in the interest of unifying discussion.

I feel that I haven't even seen a Grixis delver list in a few months, and for the Grixis control vs midrange/blue jund threads, I feel there is a lot of overlap, not much of a difference to have 2 separate threads going
as for knightfall, I've seen the deck once and it seems strong but I haven't seen many people playing it so I dunno actually how good it is or if t could be top tier

Grixis has been falling out of favor lately. Depending what you want to play Twin or GBx decks do similar things than Grixis decks but they do them better so more people decide to play them instead of Grixis. Also for the open metagame UR Twin is better choice than Grixis Twin. That said this decline seems logical and expected to me.
yeah that seems fair, I think people kind of just got excited over running Tasigur and Kolaghan's command in their UR decks. I can certainly understand your statement though, twin does just have that ability to say "oops, I win" and GBx decks just have good matches vs the field

That's exactl how it is. GBx decks have decent match-ups or can be tuned this way at least against almost any deck in the format that isn't Tron. They have option to some really good cards in Abrupt Decay and Maelstrom Pulse which means wider ranger of permanent removal. While Grixis is good it still has very little ways to deal with resolved planeswalker or enchantment. GBx decks have some cards that have bigger specter of use which can help a lot. Twin on the other hand has good tempo plan already and if this doesn't work it can always press "Oops I win" button like you said and win that way. However with Twin being on the rise Grixis Control could make bigger numbers in the following weeks/months.
I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, I can't stop a resolved walker so I might try and find a few copies of dreadbore to test in the side, since I know at least one tron deck around here and they play karn and Ugin
not being able to deal with enchantments kinda sucks but I guess its a price I pay for playing Grixis
The deck sucKS. why you'd ever play a loam based deck without vortex or seismic assault I don't know. But zombie infestation is a terrible card to build around

I've never even seen any loam based decks around, especially without vortex or seismic assault
as for Grixis control I'm on, is there anyone that can give me some play tips for playing against zoo decks?
I run 2x anger and 1x languish and still have problems vs the faster zoo decks
New metagame article is going up tomorrow on Modern Nexus, which means the forum update won't be far behind. Those jerks at SCG posted about 6 new events tonight after the article was finished, so those 6 events and the 48 decks in those events won't be counted towards the December totals. That's what I get for doing the article this week instead of waiting until next week!
I was right. Elves fell off with the rise of Combo and probably no longer the new hotness. It is still powerful, see Sullano's place. However, if the meta shifts back to linear aggro or interactive midrange/control. You could see Elves gain back their metashare.
FYI, I'm doing the metagame update tomorrow. Published the article super early on the Nexus, but then got caught up in work and travel before doing it here. Stay tuned for more!

I mean podless pod/coco/melira abzan is the better coco deck but I guess elves is okay
