Is there a reason to run damnation over wrath of god other than mana? It seems to be the go to version of the card in decks that run both black and white, and really all decks that can play it, so I'm curious if there is another reason as to why you'd want to run it that I don't know about.
They are generally similar with a few corner cases to make Damnation easier to cast depending on the deck, mostly Urborg. The decks that run them also tend to have more black mana symbols for cards like Liliana of the Veil so they tend to run more black sources.
There's also just the cool factor. Damnation is a $50 card for people who like to pimp their decks.

I was going to jokingly say aside from pimp factor But yea I totally understand that. I need one and I'm tempted to get the full art simply because it's not much more expensive and is totally badass.
The case for urborg makes sense though. I can see black mana being more prevalent and it coming off as slightly easier to cast. Cool.
Well, it's literally Wrath of God in Black.
There's a lot of little upsides to that. Counts as a different card from *** when you're making Gifts piles (or doing any other name-concerning activity), lets you wrath off of Black mana for an agreeable cost, maintains ***'s occasionally relevant anti-regen clause...
But really, between the low print numbers and the value of having literally *** without needing to run White sources, that kinda explains why Damnation's a money card. The effect is nothing special in broad terms, but it's the fact that it doesn't require the usual White mana logistics chain, instead opting for Black, that makes it so special.
Or to be more straightforward, you'll be surprised how many Black-inclusive decks would be in the market for Wrath of God without having to run White as well.
Though in the case of decks that can run both, it's a matter of "well why not?" It's not like there's a whole lot of trouble in generating the mana to *** or Damnation at the key moment or anything in this format...
There are soe decks that run silver bullets and/or dont want to run 4 ofs so you lose all your sweepers off a Slaughter games type card. There are a few reasons to run both damnation and wrath in the same deck.
You played JESUS?!?! I heard none of his guys stay in the graveyard, and once you think you have him beat he ALWAYS comes back to win within three turns. I like...WORSHIP him.
