No coverage for modern?
They at least plan on doing it on the future?
Don't hold your breath.
Eh, if the attendance numbers end up being greater than the legacy showing (and they probably will), modern will probably have coverage alternating with legacy. This of course assumes there is Wizard has no issue with SCG broadcasting modern events.

Disclaimer: As per the norm, I am aware some people will disagree with my opinion and I acknowledge there is a possibility that my opinion is wrong. The above post is simply my musings on what I view to be the most likely scenario given the information that is available and I am aware of at the time of typing! Peace.
The numbers I've seen tossed around for today's event are:
Legacy: 372
Modern: 205
Kinda disappointing for Modern since this is the first event. If these numbers remain similar I wouldn't hold my breath for SCG switching away from Legacy any time soon. The top 16 is up for anyone interested. Seems like a pretty typical list of decks you'd expect to see near the top to me.

Swing and a miss. 372 for Legacy, 205 for Modern. An underwhelming number for the first one, which was supposed to be a bang, and makes quotes like
And if SCG supported Modern, it would be more popular on all fronts than Legacy. They just can't because too much of their money is made from Legacy staples.
quite funny.
Sigh, I never claimed it was going to happen over night. And it can't be ignored that legacy is given token support at the GP level and the last few Modern GPs held in the America's have all been as big as GP Washington or bigger. Eventually, Modern will catch up in SCG events as well, it is not a question of if and more a question of when.

This Just In: When you have two simultaneous events in the same location, one with substantially higher prize payout, the one with substantially higher prize payout will generally have more people attending it.

Swing and a miss. 372 for Legacy, 205 for Modern. An underwhelming number for the first one, which was supposed to be a bang
The Modern events are also half the prize pool for 75% of the entry fee. Considering that tournament players often consider the concept of EV getting 205 is actually really good.

Modern total revenue from entry: $30 * 205 = $6150
Modern total prize pool: $5000
Modern EV: 81.3%
Legacy total revenue from entry: $40 * 372 = $14880
Legacy total prize pool: $10000
Legacy EV: 67.2%
The EV for the Modern event is actually higher than that of the Legacy Open.

Due to real-life obligations, I am taking a long break from Magic which may include missing the local Legacy GP. Apologies for not being able to keep my threads updated.
EV on the part of the players, not on the part of SCG.
Players will go with Legacy, since the entry is only 33% more for a total prize pool increase of 100%.
This isn't factoring in things like the level of competition, etc, but if these guys are grinders looking to make the most money out of their hobby, Legacy is the place to be.

Well, I can saw a woman in two, but you won't wanna look in the box when I'm through.
Modern had almost no impact on the turnout for the Legacy event. 300~ players is pretty typical. We get SCG events in the 400's sometimes, but 300~ for Legacy is pretty typical. If you take the Modern and Legacy events combined, they almost equal the turnout of the Standard event (600~) on Saturday. I have to imagine that most of the Sunday crowd also played on Saturday, although there are those who only show up for the Sunday events.
If you accept that most of the Sunday participants are also Saturday participants, where the extra people going to come from that will help Modern overtake Legacy? Are we expecting Legacy players to switch to Modern, or are we expecting droves of Modern players to turn out only on Sunday? That's the only two places the additional numbers could come from. It was also mentioned on camera that the events were staggered, so that underperforming Legacy players could drop after X-2 and register late for Modern. Eliminating those players, albeit a small number of them, I wonder how many showed up specifically to play Modern over Legacy.

Currently playing:
Standard: I, for one, welcome our new rhinoceros overlords
Modern: Pod's dead, Bob's back.
Legacy: Lands, Deathblade, Death and Taxes, Elves, MUD
Retired Legacy: Merfolk, Goblins, Jund, Delver, Reanimator
EV on the part of the players, not on the part of SCG.
Players will go with Legacy, since the entry is only 33% more for a total prize pool increase of 100%.
I think you're fundamentally missing the point: the number of players in the tournament affects your EV, and since the Legacy Open draws more players than the Modern Premier IQ, the EV is actually higher for the Modern player.
Otherwise, it's like claiming the EV for winning the lottery is much better since your $1 ticket can win you $100 million.

And being the first one, the number of players in the event was a complete unknown. In such a situation the only consideration is entry fee vs payout assuming your confidence with both formats is equal.
