Oh God, Quick look at Mtgprice.com has 2 online vendors with GOYFS now well over the $200 mark, $209 and $230. Is this what we can expect in light of recent announcements....
Yea, I believe GGT hype was like Bitterblossom back then. The difference is that one archetype has effectively been killed and the other decks relying on TC and DtT is weakened. Though I can't see it climbing beyond $15 tbh... I would snap sell within 10-12 range.
As for Pod, I don't see it getting lower than it already is. At $5, it's a reasonable price for casual decks and serves a purpose in EDH. Extremely niche in Legacy. What people should be concerned is the domino effect caused by Pod's ban. Cards like Finks, Redcap, even Voice of Resurgence will definitely be affected. There's also no way Noble Hierarch stays at that exorbitant price.
Should I go ahead and buy a playset of tarmogoyf now before they skyrocket more? I'm wanting to get a rug twin deck going, but im starting from scratch. Is it even possible for tarmogoyf go past $250? Even that just seems ridiculous. Starcitygames is trying to sell it for $250 while I've found him for $200 on other sites.
You can still get plenty of them for $170 on tcgplayer. Now is probably a pretty safe time to pick them up if you want to play them. If they aren't reprinted in MM15 the price is going to go up. If it is reprinted it will likely remain stable; I can't imagine it dropping much because Goyf decks like Junk and RUG Twin are going to be much better post-bans which will increase demand. I wouldn't spec on them right now to make money, but if you want to play them I don't see the price dropping significantly anytime soon.

Personally I believe that this announcement will really lower attendance in Modern which will in turn lower prices of staples across the board. But my point of view on it doesn't seem to be the consensus on these boards, so do what you think is best.

Nonetheless goyf prices have increased slightly over the past few days not to mention scg upping their goyf prices to 225$.

Lowered attendance can't happen until you actually have events. Once the dust settles and the format is quickly realized to be Junk Midrange vs. Twin vs. Affinity and no room for any other deck then you'll see it start.
On the attendance subject, haven't the attendance numbers for the SCG Opens been fantastic lately? I remember reading a couple weeks ago that they were in the 250-300 person range which put them at double Legacy. Pretty good for 5k events.

they have been excellent recently, but right now nothing before the ban matters. One T1 deck stopped being truly competitive and one is just plain dead. I think Modern will survive if this does not become the norm, but I would not be shocked if numbers plummet, for a while at the very least. I think a lot of Pod players of last week will be avoiding Modern like the plague, same for Delver to some extent. It may work out long term, but right now, WotC kinda flipped us off collectively and I think a lot of people will lose faith. I see next week being a really good time to finish decks, not investing though, we have to see how it all shakes out

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I have to admit, I'm really curious what the store will look like come Friday. Our FNM's are almost always Modern but out of the people that played I was the only one that played either Pod or a Cruise deck. Everyone else just got an easier field or no changes.
The great thing about goyfs is that one doesn't lose as much value as compared to many cards out there. There's nothing "wrong" about getting goyfs except that huge initial outlay. Find them at a reasonable price, and if you wanna cash out, it can still fetch the same price, as long as it's kept primped and proper.
I think too that Tarmogoyf is a safe investment. I don't see the price crashing anytime soon. Liliana of the Veil is another matter. Unlike Goyf Wizards is actually willing to reprint her in a standard legal set. Remember she was supposed to be reprinted in M15 but got pulled out because Mono-Black was already by far the most dominant deck.
Maybe we see her in M16 considering it will be last core set and opportunity to reprint her in Standard.
No chance snapcaster will be affected by Delver having less presence is there? I anticipate not bc it just seems like the staple blue 2 drop- its a card ive wanted for awhile but dont own mainly due to price.

Delver with Treasure Cruise was actually the reason why the card saw less play.
With decks like Twin and UWR getting better again I wouldn't expect the price to fall. It could actually rise again.
Snap will probably go up. Delver will be more of a thing than it was pre KtK and chances are it will be more of the tempo version that runs 3-4 snaps not to mention the twin and UWR decks.

SonofaBith - Wizards was so excited about making the packaging for Modern Masters 2 recyclable, they decided to make most of the rares and all but 1 of the UC's recycle-bin ready too. Convenient!
I am so surprised that the price of Chalice of the Void does not go down, even TC and DTT are banned. Does people still believe Delver will keep dominating the tournament?

Delver will still have some space but that card is just REALLY good in modern. How people didnt realize it til delver....

It's funnily enough also pretty good against GR Tron too. They play around 20 one mana spells and their enchantment/artifact removal of choice(Nature's Claim) also costs one mana

Absolutely, it is a viable candidate for a MM2 reprint and with pod no longer using it, there is a lot less demand.
