Play it as a 4 of in the main. Extra copies double the damage. It is susceptible to removal, though. All the more reason to run 4. It is a continual effect that punishes a player for playing his deck - you have no upkeep, unlike regular burn, where you need to keep drawing and keep pinging. In addition, it inhibits his game plan in ways noticeable and unnoticeable.

I don't want to get too deep into the Burn argument, because I love Burn and definitely have my opinions that others are going to disagree with. But, the card is 0 guaranteed damage, and it doesn't have haste. For a 2 mana card to be worth it, it needs to be providing 4 damage on average and an absolute floor of 2, this is all too often going to be zero.
I occasionally play Boros Burn at competitive events and I would absolutely run 2x Harsh Mentor sideboard for one specific reason: it is absolutely devastating against Affinity. I would be shocked if this card does not see Modern play.

My thoughts exactly. It's basically a more-encompassing stony on a 2/2 body; I figure that I'm already running Stony in the SB, so there's no reason not to try it out.
Is 5 dollars a reasonable price for the new cycling duals? I've put some on my SCG cart for pre-order.
It's a fair price if you need them right away and really want to build with them. They are definitely going to drop like a rock due to coming into play tapped as standard still has the older BFZ lands that can come into play untapped. Not saying they wont see play, but I'd expect them to be worth more like 2-3 dollars eventually. Try to trade for them locally if you can as well, since that price includes mailing costs much like most of the other cards one can order online.
Ok, thanks. I'll remember that.
Haven't placed the order yet because still waiting for the set to be spoiled completely.

Yeah pre-order season is the devil. To be honest the worst cards are the planeswalkers because everyone wants to speculate on those. I would say if you want an accurate long term picture on the value of cards in standard look at the majority of cards in Kaladesh and Aether Revolt. All the big name cards tend to stay a bit high, but the majority of cards tend to drop well below the pre-order value due to pack openings.

Question, I am planning on building an EDH deck around Samut, the RG legendary dude. Is 10$ reasonable price for him or do you think he'll drop to the 5 range?

Decks I play:
Modern:
BR Control
Grixis Bloo
EDH:
Food Chain Prossh
Land Wipe Maelstrom Wanderer
Selvala, Hearth of the Wilds Eldrazi
There is a sweet Naya Human decks to be built in Standard for Samut, Voice of Dissent, but she would be a 2-of at best in such a deck IMHO. Being Legendary and a 5-mana beater for an aggressive deck does that. She'll never reach Torrential Gearhulk prices.
Edit: Canadian stores are pre-selling her for 8$ CAD. Definitely hold off.
Probably expecting that the card As Foretold will push UWx Control in Modern, since it allows you to cast suspend cards without having to wait. Command is following the upward trend of Restore Balance and Ancestral Vision, since it is a key card in any blue control deck.
Why is there a buy-out and price increase on cryptic command right now? Is some new blue deck doing well?
The Grixis Death Shadow deck that I encountered at Sunday night magic used Cryptic Command. Maybe some Grixis versions that are heavy on blue make use of the card? I asked the guy, and he said that he has two in his deck...
I'm curious, does anyone remember generally what turn treasure cruise was played? As foretold will enable AV on turn 3, one on turn 4, one on turn 5 and one on turn 6. I mean did WotC just throw us another broken card destined to be banned? Sure its two cards but TC need a yard full of delve targets. I'm not sure how long this will be in the format...
Note: I'm not calling for a ban. So none of that stuff. I'm just saying the data points look problematic...

IDK, its just one more nasty thing to come out of a Collected Company. Throw a quillspike in for good measure...lol. Sure there is tons of removal but if the opponent whiffs on a draw... It also does infinite life off of viscera seer and Finks or damage off of Redcap...(I mean Vizier of Remedies). Now with Cataracts, you could hypothetically access and 5 colors you want...IDK. Seems feasible...EDH sure why not...lol.

Thank goodness. It's one of the cards that I made sure I didn't bulk out. It will be interesting to see how the combo pans out with that 1G 2/2 from a newer set that you can "2G to search the top 3 cards for a creature and put it in your hand."

How much are you guys expecting Gideon, Ally of Zendikar to fall in price after it rotates out of Standard?
It's a cool card that sees virtually no play in anything else. Frontier has basically disappeared and I don't see this finding any home in Modern... I think it'll hit $10 quickly and settle somewhere under $10.

It sees more play than I initially thought; it's a pretty solid addition for B/W Tokens and shows up semi-regularly in GW aggro decks, Eldrazi sideboards, oddball Spirit decks, etc. However, the $10 & below range sounds like a reasonable estimation; I'll probably pick up a playset for ~$15-$20 if/when he drops to that range.
Also he's got some serious casual demand as he's part of a very popular mechanic such as a tokens and also a very good 4-drop in a casual deck.
What about Push now? We're months into Aether Revolt and it doesn't seem it'll go down soon, but may go up? It's premium removal and widely used across formats.

I think Push could hit 15 while still in Standard, $10 post rotation, Aether Revolt wasn't highly opened due to coinciding with Modern Masters. It's also a little difficult to reprint due to the block mechanic stapled to it. Additionally it has proven to be a Modern/Legacy all star, to say nothing of Frontier if that ever really takes off.

Nowhere but up. If you want a chuckle, go back in this thread and some of the others on the board when Push was spoiled. People swearing up and down it would drop to 2 or 3 bucks after release. Until its reprinted it will go nowhere but up. How much remains to be seen.
