My bet is the next Modern Masters will have Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster Mage, Goblin Guide, and Cavern of Souls. I'm not sure about zen fetches as those together are a pretty insane cycle to all place in one set, but they might try to do a reprint. I fear for the cost of the box if they do sell those together all in one set even at mythic rarity.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Printing the Zen Fetches in a non-Standard set seems like a really stupid plan for Wizards. Modern Masters sets sell amazingly well as they contain the chase reprints that should be printed through Standard but WotC won't because a) they make a ton of money through the MM sets and b) it's not worth the risk for them to potentially hurt their cash cow formats; Standard/Limited/Sealed. The Zen fetches are healthy for their cash cow formats and literally sell the Standard set they're in. Printing them in a product like MM would be like WotC burning money for no reason. When they see a reprint I'm 99.9% certain that it'll be a Standard legal set not a supplemental product like MM.
I'm totally keeping my fingers crossed you are right and they do reprint the zen fetches in a standard set. Standard constructed would suffer a bit and I'm not sure WoTC wants to deal with people complaining about standard being too expensive with Verdant Catacombs, scalding tarn, and Arid Mesa in the format.

Well, until the fetchable duals came in with BFZ (along with Jace being $90 and a 4-of in every deck), most decks only ran a couple fetches if any at all. Fetching only basics isn't all that fantastic. If they come back to Standard, it will likely be after BFZ lands rotate out.
Before Kahns Polluted Delta was $130, and ended up sub ten for a bit, if Zen fetches were printed in another standard set they'll be around ten per good one. And their prices will only go crazy if there were some mechanic making sets of fetches mandatory in standard.
LEH: There was an article on here about reprint equity, it was a really good article, and is exactly what you're talking about, I don't believe fetches will be printed in a supplemental set. What I think will happen is right now we are in the midst of power creep in standard, so Wizards will have to cut the power back in the next set or two, and after the lull and sales are down they will release Fetches to entice players to come back to standard.
The new speed of rotation for standard is a bit annoying, but at least it means for modern we get more opportunities for card reprints.

Except Standard just got four back-to-back-to-back-to-back "return" sets from two of the most popular and powerful blocks in recent history and absolutely no noteworthy reprints. Wizards likely thinks they can extort more money by saving these high-need reprints for special sets like Modern Masters.

Fetches were *introduced* to Modern. Before KTK, allied fetches weren't modern-legal. And shocks, well, RTR was in the books so it was a granted nyway. Besides, they're modern bread & butter for a lot of decks and needed to be reintroduced as they announced Modern before RTR and prices were really expensive. The reality is that they know they have leverage by withholding cards like LotV, IoK, Goyf and friends to supplemental sets, under the false premises they would "warp" standard; but they know they can sell packs of Blah-Masters in addition of standard sets if they put them there. Yeah, we had TS in Theros. That's about it.
To come back to fetches, Zen fetches are ridiculously expensive because, unlike shocks, they were not yet reprinted after the introduction of Modern.

I think the only reason Thoughtseize was in Theros was to sell packs. They likely thought theros was a weak set so they threw in Thoughtseize.
WotC didn't "need" to reprint anything. It was a gift. And your right, old fetches weren't reprints. Functionally they basically were but technically no. And if you didn't buy play sets of each two weeks after release, I'm sorry, I can't help you.

I was referring to BFZ, OGW, SOI, and EMN. Four sets across two blocks that returned to Zendikar and Innistrad. Nearly 1,000 cards across all the sets with no meaningful reprints.
Fetches being printed wasn't a gift. It was a way to make money on cards that without a reprint wouldn't be able to be printed. They couldn't print old fetches since they were eternal cards, Standard printing was the only way to go. Not only was it a successes for them and us, they got to double dip with Expedition Printings.
yeah pretty much, article sums it up well.
i still say they are too greedy with reprints though. there is always the danger that a high priced card loses demand due to no longer being relevant in tournaments. they may as well cash out now.
idk, wizards probably has a better idea of demand than i do though

I thin Liliana of the Veil, Snapcaster Mage and Goblin Guide are pretty likely reprints in the next Modern Masters but I don't think this is the case for zendikar fetchlands.
They could put fetches in here, much like anything else, but that would cause issues, I agree. They would have to still reprint them in a Standard set, but for some reason they hate reprinting good cards twice in a year. With Goblin Guide I hope it is in here, but this is one of those cards that keep getting skipped over, much like Damnation, so I find better on it not being in leaves my hopes in tact.
They *will not* print fetchlands in a supplemental set. Ever. They're solid gold profit in a standard set so there's absolutely no reason for them to put them in a limited run guaranteed to sell out Masters set.
I'd imagine guide sees a reprint in something soon, but who knows.

Eh. It doesn't bother me much. It will still drop the price as all they really needed to do with the card was deflate the bubble.
It would make more sense to me if they make it as uncommon at it used to be but it's still nice.
It would definitely be nice as an uncommon - but I don't think Wizards has ever printed a $20 card as an uncommon - ever. They're clearly looking to move packs and prints like this will certainly do that. Either way, just happy it's there, the artwork is cool (Baga is AWESOME), and I'm excited to see what else is in the set.
Yeah, I've been playing Jund forever so I've had Inquisitions for a very long time, and picked them up when they were very cheap, so whatever price they end up at won't affect me. But WOTC's ocnstant up-shifting of rarity still confounds me.

This is clearly about money. SOMETIMES the rarity shifts are due to limited, but this is a way to insert a $10 bill into a booster pack.
I don't really have a problem with this. They need to make money to keep printing things - especially these non-standard sets that are hit and miss for them from a sales perspective. If this drives pack sales then it's ultimately good for us. Also, IOK's bubble felt precipitously fragile anyway, I'd imagine this drops the price a meaningful amount for a while.

Nah it can still make sense from limited design: skill testing.
You can separate the constructed grinder who drafted a $10 card from the guy who won the draft and got a bunch of packs and presumably the greater reward EV by throwing in a card at rare that's powerful... outside of draft.
It's a bait card for pack crackers that'll inevitably be dumped on the secondhand market by draft grinders, that it just so happens to be a good card means, assuming everything goes right and IoK doesn't somehow prove to be good in a multiplayer draft environment (which it shouldn't, but Magic is a weird game where people can expect one thing and the exact opposite happens), everyone wins in this arrangement.
