Well right now stores don't even want to hold onto MM17 and are selling pre-orders for near the wholesale price. Modern has so little interest right now on sealed product it's crazy and the box prices are likely going to go even lower later on unless something changes in the market. Also, this is knowing that an MM17 sealed box is likely going to have an EV above 180 given current prices in modern unless they really screw up with the reprints. If they do it's going to be the next planechase anthologies.

Modern Masters is, admittedly, a crapshoot. The EV of the boxes is determined by what is included, and that is a decision made as much as 12 months ago. However, random spikes we've largely forgotten over the last year means there could be surprising value in the box. Cards like Chalice of the Void, Surgical Extraction and Leyline of the Void which just recently spiked can end up giving boxes a value a bit better than EV. I'm not remembering any cards suffering a major slump, excepting Snapcaster Mage, and to a degree, Lili, but these are expected entries, and that's the very reason for the slump. There is Arcbound Ravager, but prices are slowly picking up on Affinity, meaning it's going to show a comeback. Blossoming Defense really helped the deck.
There is also the chance that some element of Cheerios is in the deck, dropping the price even further and enticing even more players into the format. Problem with that is, a ban would be badfeels.
I think it is fair to say more cards have risen in value than have slumped in the past 12 months.
There is also a strong possibility that MM17 foreshadows Standard for the next year, as MM15 did.

I think stores are just a bit apprehensive due to the Eternal Masters shenanigans. I've made sure to secure at least two boxes at $185; prices could spike up to $240 tomorrow if just a single spoiler shows Goyf in the set. I'm very comfortable taking the chance on what adds up to be about $7.50/booster pack; the only thing that I'm wary about is the possibility of an increased print run compared to previous MM sets.

This is a VPN product being released by a company that has taken consumer confidence out into the backyard and shot it with a shotgun several times, then took the corpse and ran it over with a mac truck. Ancestral visions. Thought on the cards price? I recently started playing grixis control and man do I feel like this card is a necessity in the mirror.
Why would wizards announce not hosting modern events BEFORE Modern Masters 2017? That was an incredibly stupid business move as far as I can figure because I am sure that is part of the factor to the low MM17 box prices.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

In no way is that card remotely worth $50. The single and only reason it holds such a price is because the decks playing it want 3-4 copies and it has only ever been printed in extremely old or extremely limited sets. A reprint would cause the card to tank hard. I wouldn't buy at all until it's confirmed not in MM17. And even then, the card isn't even a necessity in the best Grixis decks. This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.

Rudy rambles about things that really only pertain to people investing into MTG like it's the stockmarket, which is moronic, because at that point, you should just invest in stocks
And Rudy doesn't give a ***** about modern, I have no idea why a modern player would want to watch his videos
I've found mtg reddit finance and watching mtggoldish and tournament results reasonable in predicting price spikes
Supposedly MM17 isnt WPN only, when it normally is. That coupled with the "reprint" EM thing WOTC pulled; I think general trust in the company and its product lines has been lost.
That plus the stupid decision to not hype this premium set.
Its clear Standard is suffering. They are willing to tank a premium set if it means helping standard.

I think his antics are hilarious. Obviously not the sole source for info, but an interesting look from the investor's side of things. He's NOT a player like us, but that's exactly why his opinions are interesting. It's how things look from a store owner's perspective. Remember, most of his sustainable magic income comes from buying hundreds of boxes, opening them, and selling the singles. So he's not just focused on the long term value of sealed product, but in the ebb and flow of individual card prices, spikes, and trends. The things he bases his information on are different than what players do, so it's just another data point to consider when it comes to the value of any given card. Not all cards have value dictated by playability alone (which would be the main focus of Goldfish and Reddit).

If that's true, prices of whatever will be included in the set will tank hard for quite some time. Bad for investors, but great for players.
On the flip side, whatever ISN'T included will likely see a 50-100% spike in price...
Yeah, also before anyone else mentions it some posts I was doing on my phone were replacing WPN with VPN. I didn't actually notice thanks to the small screen until someone started going on about it.
Personally, I'm on the side that the set will be chock full of value and not be another MM15, so it will have that going for it. The downside is that if they mess up and push the RTR block reprints we're looking at another potential Planechase anthologies. I'm growing a tree sapling for good fortune this coming year (old superstition, I know), so maybe I'll lump this guy into the good luck wishes.

Link to info suggesting it's not WPN-only? This is the only official information I can find on it.

You can hate the guy, but he tends to have a lot of relevant information on how things look in the MTG finance that does impact people who play the game, especially modern right now.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Source is my LGS and DesolatorMagic on youtube. They are handling the distribution differently and non-vpn locations are getting allocations. The VPN stores are still getting a bigger allocation, but there are so many boxes out there it doesn't matter much.

If that's true, prices of whatever will be included in the set will tank hard for quite some time. Bad for investors, but great for players.
On the flip side, whatever ISN'T included will likely see a 50-100% spike in price...

DesolatorMagic? That hack youtuber who spews vitriol and inflammatory speech to generate page views? Call me crazy, but I'm not buying it.

He also runs a store that isn't WPN, so even if you don't like the guy if he says he can get boxes and my LGS is saying that the product basically isn't WPN I'm trusting it.

And my uncle's landlord who works for WoTC is saying MM17 will have enemy fetches, Damnation, Goyf at uncommon, and Scornful Egotist at mythic. I trust him.

You calling Uncle Ben a liar?
Excuse me for being skeptical of your two different "sources"; I wasn't aware that sensationalist youtubers and friends of friends were considered iron clad evidence.
