A few people in my LGS are buying Goblin Guides because they think that the extra product won't be able to compensate for the much increased demand of people waiting to buy them. Since burn is a popular deck among people waiting to get into modern I'm not sure how true this is. Has this ever happened with rares before?
All the time. What your buddies fail to realize however is that a GG reprint will still most likely drop the current price for a while before it has a chance to shoot back up. I'd do any GG speculative buying 1-2 weeks after release; it's already seen a modest dip in anticipation of MM17.
So, I bought a playset of Puresteel Paladins (plus 1 foil) and Retract before they spiked. Now, after some playtesting, I'm finding that Cheeri0s might not really be my type of deck. What would you advice? Sell now or hold on in the event the deck really takes of/becomes Tier 1?
Guys, if you've been sitting on Chalice of the Void, now's the time to move. Non-foil English copies from Modern Masters nearly disappeared last night. Probably on the back of Tron and Eldrazi starting to put it to good use, I'd imagine.
Unless you want to bank on a MM17 reprint. Personally I don't give it better than 50/50 odds, so it's a big risk.

tcgplayer shows 58 non-Masterpiece listings (MM and Mirrodin) right now. SCG is out, CF is out, still looks like a decent amount on ebay.
The Mirrodin one seems to be in higher stock for some reason, but TCGplayer currently has literally 2 left from Modern Masters and 7 from Mirrodin under the ~$60 foil price. The eBay price/stock does seem to be in better shape.

agreed, it will most likely end up back where it is now unless they greatly increase the print run, the new supply will not be able to meet the built up demand, but people won't but until the price drops. it's going to shoot back up, but first it will BRIEFLY fall hard

Hmm. Still plenty left on MCM at 25 and 40 EUR for regular and foil, respectively. Should I pick up a playset before they catch on? If they even do?

If the sudden scarcity is a result of new enthusiasm over the card on account of all the decks that are suddenly using it to great success, I'd imagine overseas stores will be feeling it soon as well. Even if not, a reprint (or a ban?) would be about the only way you'd come up on the short end. I don't think either of those is too likely, so I'd put it in the "buy" category if you're looking to spec or use.

I was able to snipe a playset on eBay nov of 2015 for about 36 USD of chalice of the void. The card had been out for years prior to with fast mana available along side it. If it does see a reprint I'd be impressed if it held anywhere close to its current value as the price jump for the card seemed to be built off the back of the eldrazi pro tour and it just never really fell.
It's a powerful effect sure, but I don't think demand is as strong as people claim if it flew under the radar for so many years.
It would be a smart business decision in almost every regard to put them in Standard without fetchable dual lands. Even despite Siege Rhino, KTK/THS was one of the best times for Standard in recent history and a lot of that had to do with the combination of a fun, powerful multicolor set, pretty good (but not overly good) mana fixing, and the strange combination of tons of value in the set while individual card prices were extremely reasonable. Fetches should be reintroduced as soon as BFZ Duals rotate out, but it's all up to R&D for how long they want to string us along.

No way. Fetches plus the Revolt mechanic is going to be to good for standard

It would be incredibly sad if WOTC believes this.
The mechanic, as it stands now, is basically irrelevant in Standard. If it makes a namesake mechanic meaningful, they might see that as a win for flavor AND gameplay (Revolt is in the SET'S NAME!) Even when fetches (without duals) were legal in THS/KTK, most decks only ran a max of 4. Only fetching a basic is extremely limiting and often was worse than the respective Temples and Pain Lands. Plus, introducing enemy fetches in something like a Shard-centered set would mean that each respective shard would only get one fetch (like how each Khans fetch only slotted into one wedge).
But as we have learned, if it makes sense, WotC will do something different...
If they are in Modern Masters, the value of the boxes would skyrocket, and it would be MM13 all over again.
And then the value of Zenfetches would also skyrocket. Would be bad feels all around.
Just ordered 4 cases of MM17 at the LGS. Not at all pleased to get home and find Modern got yet another tournament cut.
Is Modern dying? Acts like this will lead to it....
Which tournament got cut if you don't mind me asking?
I'm just venting here, but I'm pretty upset that my LGS went bankrupt through some horrible business decisions with the warehouse section of the business. Now I literally can drive an extra 30 mi or go to LGS's with fewer than 20 players. Needless to say, I'm a bit upset and this is motivation for me to start moving cards and decks that I rarely use anymore.

Those people who picked up fetches in zendikar block are now glad they held them. They will never go down from where they are now, I am no expert but I can guarantee that.
If they kill modern the prices on those are irrelevant because the only thing propping their price is required legality in constructed competitive and price memory, which is largely a joke. The one good thing for owners is that they likely won't see a standard reprint.
