Buckling, please. It's a random card with a cute interaction. It's not like it's a format staple.
How would you propose you fix it? Some random ass however old bulk rare. Print on demand? Reprints of every set on a monthly schedule?
This is actually part of what makes Modern amazing. You know what I had dropped on me in mtgo? Srams expertise, into breaking/entering into Ulamog on turn 2!
Everyone, buy out split cards, they are going to spike now!
Well, by not ignoring old cards that people liked or provide some interesting form of interaction and reprinting them like what the old core sets did. The failing of the design team over the last few years is their ignorance of the history of cards they already designed. There isn't a whole lot they can do about legendary creatures as they are kind of time and place specific other than print it in a commander product, but there are cards like Lightning Helix, Hedron Crab, Idyllic Tutor, Swarmyard, etc that would be fine in a standard set and they instead print things like Warleader's Helix? They spend too much time reinventing the wheel when they got a working one.

3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
You're completely ignoring the power level of sets though, or random mechanics that are specific to a set.
Or dropping cards of a wildly different power level into a set.
It's not reinvention of the wheel, it's exploring different designs.
I'd rather we got Anger of the Gods instead of Damnation or Wrath of God.
I'm pretty sure that in a vacuum a like standard was Lightning Helix would have been fine during RtR. Swarmyard is definitely not a broken card and Hedron Crab would have been fine in BFZ and could have replaced one of the filler creatures.

I do not agree with Lightning Helix being okay in RtR. Naya Blitz and Burn where pretty good decks. Boros Charm, Searing Spear and Helix may well have been too good.
We now have enough supplementary products to print things like Wrath of God and Damnation. I enjoy sweepers like Anger of the Gods, spot removal like Fatal Push, and the idea of tribal counterspells like Silumgar's Scorn was fantastic, but was given to a sub optimal tribe. Imagine if we ever where to go back to Lorwyn and Faries got something like Scorn. You could also make a good argument of spirits getting it to. These kind of mechanics are fun, and push synergy over raw power, which I feel is important design wise.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.

In what set do we need Swarmyard? Helix I'd plenty strong, clearly too strong for today's sets when we cheer for Shock lol.
And Hedron Crab...why.
Like I don't get why we would reprint for the sake of reprint.
Someone posted an article on reprints that really struck me as well done. It's Wizards savings account, and reprints that are not needed, or are too strong are just useless waste of future potential, or are used like Thoughtseize, as a chase card.

How did I forget! Yeah, 3 copies of cards that said deal three damage to target player, and one that said do four damage would have been too much for standard, especially along side some better aggressive one drops the format had.
Moral of the story is that often times, Standard environments do dictate that these highly powerful cards can't be printed. LotV was going to get printed, but due to Mono Black Devotion, she was pulled. Am I upset about that? Hell yes I am/was. Do I understand? Yep, that deck was a real issue for standard, and should have had something done about it.
I'm not talking standard colt, this is the modern thread. Standard is literally burning up your money...
As to playing Cherri0s, I doubt it, I'm going to hold them till they hopefully spike an event and sell. I'm selling off a lot of my random stuff to pay for Jund.
Smart man. GBx is the best investment you can make in modern
I assume Probe is never going to see the unban hammer, right? I only take stake in Modern cards, and I assume they'd unban Twin before they'd unban Probe. I have a playset of foil Phyrexia probes. Best to sell?
Probe should be absolutely safe to unban in a future where "combo"-like aggro and actual combo aren't combining for many pre-turn4 kills. Whether or not that future ever exists is another matter.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.
Modern:
DredgeVine EDH:
Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
Anima Standard:

Agree. It may take three or more years though, and Infect would need to have been pretty far off the map (firmly Tier 3) for a season or two. Definitely sell them now if you want to put the money elsewhere, but hold if you don't care. Probe will always be a Legacy/Vintage staples and OG foil printings for those cards tend to slowly creep upwards over long periods of time despite reprints.

Hi everyone! I am hoping someone can help me make some smart decisions and help me come to a consensus of what I should be buying in the upcoming months.
I am looking to finally start finishing up my Abzan Midrange deck and although I have a good chunk of cards, what would everyone kind of agree upon when it comes to priority cards? If any experienced Junk players are out there then would it be possible to number off what should be the most vital and important key cards that I should slowly be checking off and maybe some tips as to when I should go ahead and buy them.
I know Modern Masters is coming out soon so I expect a Liliana purchase, and although I can afford it right now, I don't know if it prioritizes other cards.
I'm no junk player but I would wait and see before buying any card over $15 dollars until we know what's in MM2017. I'm not making any big purchases until then.
I suggest snatching up Tarmogoyfs right now, just checked on TCG, they're like 100 dollars. It's far cheaper now than it has been in the past, and I'm not confidant it's going to see a reprint this time around. The past two Modern Masters didn't put much of a dent in the price either. I'd pick them up now, since Goyfs and LOTV's are the most crucial pieces.
There's a small chance on Abrupt Decay being reprinted, I'd wait on that
Pick up your Siege Rhinos, Tasigurs, Scavening Ooze
Inquisition of Kozilek was already reprinted recently so I'd go ahead and pick that up. Pick up an entire playset
I'd pick up thoughtseize, it used to be like a 50 dollar card, may as well pick up 3 of them. You don't need the 4th copy.
Path to Exile has been reprinted so many times, just pick it up.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar has been a FANTASTIC sideboard card.
Same with the new Lilly
I'd pick up all the fetchlands, people have been saying they'll just wait for it to be released in a new set, but that's been 2 years now. They definitely aren't coming in Modern Masters, it's too much of a cash cow to not sell to standard players. Standard as of now is a mess and I'd be shocked if they brought back fetch-lands any time soon.
LOTV has a very nice chance of being reprinted, but be cautious, if she doesn't get a reprint, she's REALLY going to spike up. If she is reprinted, she'll go down at like what, 20 to 30 dollars the most?
I think it depends how much you want to risk it, it's so 50/50 I don't even know, but I think her not being reprinted would impact the card more than if it was reprinted.
LotV would be reprinted at mythic, and that would affect her prices as much as 2 reprintings affects Goyf.
I'm convinced WOTC wants the top price of Modern to be $100, and will reprint Goyf until it gets there.
Best bet is to look through your M13 and M15 lists and see what was reprinted. For instance, Bob was printed in both 13 and 15, so it is unlikely to be reprinted. That's an indication you should buy it now.
Hi I'm new to this site and I was wondering whether or not I should get Saffi Erickdotter. I run a Abzan Company deck and was curious if I should grab a copy of her or wait for her price to drop.
It's too late to get her now and I don't think her price is going to drop back down any time soon. During the weekend some crazy people did a buyout of all near mint copies of her and I was just barely able to catch an auction on eBay for 30 USD for a playset. The trouble with her is she is an obscure card from a set printed when there weren't a lot of box openings, so she is a bit like painters servant.
They may print her in commander way down the road, though.

I expect Saffi's price will be pretty stable for the reasons Colt mentioned unless it becomes a Tier-1 powerhouse. But I'd also point out that Abzan Company functioned just fine without her and is unlikely to underperform significantly without that combo.
