Yeah, I've been playing Jund forever so I've had Inquisitions for a very long time, and picked them up when they were very cheap, so whatever price they end up at won't affect me. But WOTC's ocnstant up-shifting of rarity still confounds me.
This is clearly about money. SOMETIMES the rarity shifts are due to limited, but this is a way to insert a $10 bill into a booster pack.
I don't really have a problem with this. They need to make money to keep printing things - especially these non-standard sets that are hit and miss for them from a sales perspective. If this drives pack sales then it's ultimately good for us. Also, IOK's bubble felt precipitously fragile anyway, I'd imagine this drops the price a meaningful amount for a while.
Nah it can still make sense from limited design: skill testing.
You can separate the constructed grinder who drafted a $10 card from the guy who won the draft and got a bunch of packs and presumably the greater reward EV by throwing in a card at rare that's powerful... outside of draft.
It's a bait card for pack crackers that'll inevitably be dumped on the secondhand market by draft grinders, that it just so happens to be a good card means, assuming everything goes right and IoK doesn't somehow prove to be good in a multiplayer draft environment (which it shouldn't, but Magic is a weird game where people can expect one thing and the exact opposite happens), everyone wins in this arrangement.
I agree 100% here. Also, people have it in their heads that this card is still $20 (they think the same is true of SV), but you can currently get them for around 8 and this will likely drop the price to $4-5. Considering this is an absolute modern staple that sees play in multiple different decks.. I don't know that we could ask for any more.
They *will not* print fetchlands in a supplemental set. Ever. They're solid gold profit in a standard set so there's absolutely no reason for them to put them in a limited run guaranteed to sell out Masters set.
I'd imagine guide sees a reprint in something soon, but who knows.
Eh. It doesn't bother me much. It will still drop the price as all they really needed to do with the card was deflate the bubble.
It's funny that "the bubble" only exists in the first place because IoK wasn't reprinted in MM15 or BFZ/OGW. It was $5-7 before MM15, then shot to $15 after not reprinted. Then stayed around there before shooting up to $30 after not getting reprinted in either of the Zendikar sets. Right now, it's back down around $15, and with this reprint, it MIGHT go back down to what it was before all this nonsense started! LOL

You can readily pick up the card on TCGPlayer for around $8. Price memory is REAL though, because until I looked today I thought they were still sitting at $20. Serum Visions did the same thing and can be had right now for about $5, but I guarantee if you talk to many modern players RIGHT NOW if you mention SV they'll go on about how a common shouldn't be $15 and the problems with WOTC and yadda yadda all without knowing that they're currently $5. So it goes.
It's from a set that came out 7 years ago (pre new world order boom) and has seen play in top tier constructed formats since that point in IOK's case - and in SV's case it came out 12 (! - many players playing this card at their FNM would have been 4-5 years old when it came out) years ago. We're not talking about draft chaff here, we're talking about cards that see TONS of play that are much older than modern cards. Even if you print SV at common in a masters set (it's not going to be in a standard set - 1 mana cantrips are way outside of standard design space right now, especially at common) then you're still only going to see it hit 2-3 just based on price memory.
WotC didn't "need" to reprint anything. It was a gift.
Hahaha, get out of here with this bull*****.
You act like Wizards sent out enough free copies to give one to every player at every FNM. It was not a gift. They did it to make money, as they always do.
And you act like you're entitled to something. News flash, you're not. People will buy the game whether there are reprints or not.

No, I don't.
News flash: I just pointed out the idiocy of your statement.
Another news flash: If Wizards announced that they would never do any reprints, Modern would go the way of Legacy. Wizards likes that people play older formats because it means they can do stuff like Modern Masters, which is an easy way to make money without having to crank out a new set. The secondary market also stays afloat because players are still interested in older formats. If our generous benefactors at Wizards were to stop doing reprints entirely, the prices of older cards would skyrocket and then tank the secondary market, leaving many people who play Standard and Limited with no place to play and greatly affecting WotC's profit margins (which are (SURPRISE) what they care about most).

Another thing about SV that nobody seems to remember is that it was in the 3rd set of mirrodin block (only drafted for 2-3 months). Many players stopped playing because of the affinity menace. It was a relatively bad set compared to the rest of the block too. (crucible of worlds, eternal witness, engineered explosives, vedalken shackles and SV were the only staples i remember back then)

I keep forgetting that Serum Visions dropped pretty heavily in price, interesting enough it had way more to do with the meta game than reprints. It went from one of the top 3 most played spells in modern to 10th (as of today) after twin got banned. It currently sees less play than Ancient Grudge or Stony Silence.
Unrelated to modern, I am really happy to see Burning Wish get a reprint.

You're not wrong. They do need to do reprints on occasion. That said, reprints affect design space. MM is a cash grab, no doubt. As long as it's around, don't expect much to find its way into standard sets. Because, while it's a cash grab, it also fills the role you mentioned and it does so better than insert random reprint could ever do. Random reprints are a gift because they are issued with no print cap.

Does Eldritch Evolution have any potential in Modern? Would now be a good time to buy copies or will it drop more, given that it isn't seeing play in Standard?

I'm going to pick up some playsets of it. I feel like it's about that same level as bring to light. Feels good but doesn't get any play right now.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

It would be funny if they reprinted Goblin Guide in the set as well, but we'll have to see. We already got yet another reprint of Phyrexian Arena.
