Just noticed... someone seems to be buying a lot of Reality Smasher from SCG. From 37 pcs, just 2 left now - in just a few hrs. Thankfully, the price has not gone up yet.
Starcity is probably pulling them off shelf. The pro players have probably found something.
Anyone think the new spirits in Eldrich moon are worth getting? I was going to get liliana, the last hope and that one critter that puts stuff in the yard, but spirits is reminding me a lot of fairies, and they turned out pretty well off.
Spirit are going to be playable in standard for sure. I'm picking them up since its a cheap deck to fiddle around with, from what I'm hearing they may be ok in modern too. Spell Queller is the real enigma it could drop to a couple dollars or jump to $15 if it finds a home in a good deck. The rest are cheap and could get cheaper.
Me too. I'm tired of borrowing Arid Mesa. I'm not willing to pay current prices for them. I think we will get a reprint in the next year or so, could be in MM3.

If you actually look at the price of standard rares, the only one that is expensive is CoCo (20ish) and that came from a set that wasn't very opened. Spell Queller probably won't be very much because: it's in restrictive colors, it only slots into a few decks in standard, the set will be very opened because of Emerkul. I expect $7ish dollars after a month or so.

I agree, there's probably no need to rush out and buy Spell Queller. Its a gold card in a standard format without any fetches and as a 2/3 it fails the lightning Bolt test in modern.

Hmm, I guess you're right. I remember another time that their Avatar of Resolute stock "disappeared" then after some days all their Avatar of the Resolute are there again with a new price.

The bolt test doesn't apply to it in the same fashion as the synergy with the tribe almost always gives it hexproof when you need it. It's pretty much a counterspell version of Vendilion Clique, and I'm not missing the boat on another one of those. Plus, what exactly is an opponent going to do when they get their spell back and it's a Negate or Remand? Against many spells I'd use it against, the card already has done justice from being flashed in at the right time, so the downside is not nearly as bad as it appears. Against something more board wiping like an Anger of the gods, we got Selfless Spirit, Essence Flux, etc. So I feel it has more value than what people are giving it right now, especially since I'm just looking at what is available in standard and not even the entirety of modern to play with. Modern lists seem a bit mixed right now as people aren't quite sure what direction to take spirits. Some want to do tempo, others want merfolk spirits, etc. It's the wild west right now and people are doing buyouts on all the really old spirits like Tallowisp just to make a few dollars.
As a side note: I'm not sold on enchantment spirits style decks yet. The best enchantment that they can get would be something like Steel of the Godhead and that works best on dual colored spirits. Tempo seems like the stronger deck, which means snapcaster mage and possibly more spells.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Hmm, a question to people who observe prices. Is it a good time now to sell a playset of Arid Mesa?
I was hoping that they would have a decent price with the Nahiri hype. Need cash for some non-mtg related things, and the mesa are the only fetches that I could sell.

Impossible to really know, but, they are higher than they have been in awhile so you would be moving them at high price. If they do get reprinted soon you are going to feel like a genius, but, if they don't and have a big spike you are going to be sick. I play the game for fun so I will trade good stuff (sometime that I would like to keep) to raise funds for cards for my Main decks.
If Zen fetches aren't in MM3 expect a huge jump, Mesa will likely go to a $100 dollars and back down to $75 dollars in time. It's a tough call.
Except for fetches (zendikar in particular), does anyone noticed that cards are loosing value? Any particular reason i' shoud be aware of?
Taking away the Modern Pro Tour has also resulted in many stores switching PPTQs from Modern to Standard or Limited. It's basically rendered Modern a casual format with the occasional GP and SCG events, just like Legacy. So prices won't jump around because of Modern like they did when there was a PT, and many are probably settling down to their natural price based on actual demand.
Yeah, I don't think modern is a balanced enough format to have a PT and WoTC has no real way to directly support it outside sets like modern masters, since they don't have a say in the secondary market. There's a good reason most people who play modern have a pet deck and rarely move from it: The cards can be expensive due to being from a historic set and getting all of the needed cards to build a deck can take a lot of traveling, money, and online shopping.

The bolt test isn't as important on this card because your opponent is still down a card until they cast a removal on it. (it doesn't fail because it can be a 2 for 1 against counterspells/removal)

Balance isn't the reason why Modern doesn't do pro tours. Modern doesn't do pro tours because old formats can't handle pros finding the "best decks" in the format because the pros will just spam the deck. In legacy we already know that Miracles is the best deck so they could do a pro tour if the reserved list didn't exist.

Well, we can say variety instead of balance, but I always thought of balance as being the game had at least a couple different deck strategies that can compete evenly on a playing field in at least an asymmetrically balanced fashion.

Eldritch Evolution: What do you predict about this card's value? Will it go up or not?
I think it'll be a flop in Modern but don't pay attention to Standard so its price may be influenced by that format. Even if it's not a flop in Modern it will only be a role player in one or two decks, and likely not tier 1 decks. With Modern being relegated to a casual format without PTs anymore new cards probably won't have huge spikes due to Modern playability.
Eldtritch Evolution: What do you predict about this card's value? Will it go up or not?
I don't follow Standard, but I think that card is way over hyped for Modern.
1. It is a rare, and only the best rares stay in the $10 while in Standard.
2. It is a Sorcery. Decks that might run it have better options.
3. It exiles itself. That keeps combos or synergy from being unfair.
4. I think there is are a lot of tasty morsels at the top of the rarity for this set, and that will spread out value over more cards.
If TKS can barely stay above $5 then I just can't see EE doing any better.
I think the odds of a Hierarch reprint before next summer are small. It could be in Conspiracy 2, but it doesn't seem like the rarity you want for mana fixing in a draft set. Then again I am ***** at drafting, so I may be way off. Mechanically too...attacking with one creature seems like the opposite of what I see in draft much of the time.
Next summer I expect we will see another Modern Masters, but who knows if it will be in.
What is the thought on Noble Hierarch? Is it a good time to buy?
Cards like this are only going to go up during Modern season...that is unless you expect Infect, Abzan Company, and Bant Eldrazi to see no play during Modern season. For me, it's going to be interesting to see what spikes a bunch during Modern season.

The issue with pro tours is that pros grind in secret trying to find out the best deck in the format. In standard that's fine since the card pool always changes, in modern/legacy finding the best deck in a card pool that doesn't change is toxic for the format.

Thanks for the input. Hmm, well I'm in a tough spot right now anyway.. me and some friends have a cosplay event next month, and one of my friends still has not finished her costume - I need to lend her a little cash. Selling them at 70$ each won't be too bad. Got them during zendikar standard at 10 dollars each. Will just re-buy once they get reprinted. I've already computed, there would still be a bit of leftover cash that I will deposit to the bank.
Hmm, and for an additional question. What are people's thoughts on Eldritch Evolution? Better to buy now or wait a few months before buying? I plan to get three for a semi casual elf deck for Modern. Thank you.
