I know that it's not even remotely close to modern playable but the fact that Steamflogger Boss is being bought out in response to the new set is hilarious.

Oh yeah, a 3/3 for 4 mana is going to be busted.... Unless the boss has an infinite combo, this is a useless buyout.

It's particularly silly because they would probably reprint Boss in the new set, if they were really going with the mechanic. What better way to remind people how clever they were and create a tie-in to an old set? That said, if this is a super-sneaky "buy for the hype" speculation, where you get copies just to trick people into buying your copies, it makes more sense.

You'd think people would realize having cards from Future Sight is usually a good thing. Heck, even Nimbus Maze is relative money and it's god awful everywhere as Glacial Fortress pretty much one ups everything about it. I remember being told "I'm sorry" by a store owner after cracking a pack of Future Sight to find a Daybreak Coronet only a few years ago... and look where that card went.

I thought that contraptions were like an 8 on the storm scale. MaRo vowed last year to solve them before he retires, but in the same answer was quick to say that he had no intention of retiring anytime soon. To me that means- "Yea, I will keep it in mind and set it as a challenge, but there are no immediate solutions at hand."

This isn't true. Nimbus maze is better to have when you have alot of non basics such as colonnade/quarter/tec edge/mystic gate.

Given the fetch/shock template of most manabases, you're likely to have an Island or Plains in play for Glacial Fortress to come in untapped. If it's the only card in hand, it comes in tapped, then produces both colors regardless. But if Maze is your only card, it comes in untapped, but what are you doing in those colors for colorless mana on turn 1, that MIGHT produce colored mana after? It may as well just be a tapped dual.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

Dragons of Tarkir has been out of print for almost a year now. There are still boxes to be purchased and found though.
As for the price of Collected Company, My *GUESS* is that in October/November timeframe, the card will drop to somewhere around $15, then slowly start to rise as those who primarily play standard get rid of their copies.
If you take that part as true, are you willing to wait 5 months to save $40?
This should be the place to post this, but what are your predictions about Collected Company? Will the price sink after it rotates out of standard? Been aching to build a deck with it for quite some time but the price keeps me from enjoying myself.
I can't see it moving much at all since Abzan company is so popular and zoo decks see decent play too
I'm still waiting on an ancestral vision drop though
Collected Company will hold its price as long as Abzan Company will be popular and I don't think this will change anytime soon. It sees a good amount of play and this should keep its price as it is.
CoCo's price comes from it's rampant use in Bant Company in standard. It doesn't come from abzan.

This. Company is a 4-of in a tier 1 standard deck (from what I hear - I don't keep up with standard). Modern is going to buoy its price at rotation somewhat, but the card is definitely going to drop. A rare from a modern set also printed in a supplemental product isn't going to maintain that price point once it only sees play in a modern deck or two.

I agree that Standard is the main source of card prices and cards that see bigger amount of play in Standard will have higher prices. That said Modern contributes to the prices too in the same way-cards that see more play in Modern have higher and more stable prices. CoCo would definitely drop in price more after the rotation if it didn't see (so much) play in Modern.
Coco will be the same as Chord was when it left standard.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
Having Wizards be both the sole supplier of cards and having a big hand in the secondary market.... Wow that would be a dangerous position to be in. The company I work for is in Oil and Gas. We sell equipment to midstream companies around the world. In fact, we've been asked many times to take up a midstream role and lease projects out. We have declined every time because we will not compete with those we sell equipment to. If Wizards directly impacts the secondary market by injecting cards (and taking money out), why be in that business? The consequences of such an action could easily turn the secondary market into a chaotic mess.
You realize that's the position we're already in. Wotc has more control over the secondary market then any other entity in the world, and they have already injected cards what do you think the master series, event deck, ect... Are? Does the fact that they let lcgs be a middle man really matter.
Actually it does make a big difference. Yes, Wizards is the only manufacturer of cards and yes, they have some control over the secondary market by being able to reprint cards. But they are not directly involved in the secondary market selling cards themselves. Let me give you an example. Let's say that Wizards is in fact playing in the secondary market and we have Eternal Masters coming out. They know what will be reprinted and what won't. they could easily manipulate the secondary market by selling off cards they currently have in stock that would be reprinted and buy out cards from other retailers that are poised to spike. There was already a major firestorm over this by believing that SCG or ChannelFireball had insider information on EMA and was manipulating buy and sell prices accordingly. This information turned out to be false, but the panic it ensued was not.
Now imagine if Wizards is playing in the secondary market and doing that? What do you think the reaction from consumers would be?
How does that even matter, why would they care about their stock, when they can just print all the stock they want? Nor does that even address how having a middle man matters.
A 40 dollar mythic rare would constitute a must have 4 of that goes in many decks.
Stats About Mythics
-Mythics are on average 40% rarer than pre-mythic rares
(old blocks about 200 rares, Mythic blocks 35+ mythics)
-They are printing more new cards a year not less
(about 665 now vs. 630 in most pre-mythic block)
-To drop the value of a rare by $1 a mythic must go up $2
-In a 3 year time span deck prices doubled. I am petitioning for the removal of mythic rarity. Sig this to join the cause.
this seems pretty accurate. If I were to guess, I'd say it goes from $25 to $15.

Let me put it another way. Take a look at other industries - power for example. Where I live, EVERYONE gets their power from Centerpoint. They are the sole provider of energy (electricity and natural gas). We, however, have several retailers that sell power to individuals. Gexa, TXU, Pennywise, Tara Energy, etc. All of the power comes from the same place, but there are middlemen that are used that offer different services and charge different rates. TXU is the equivalent of a Channel Fireball or SCG. They have the best service, but the highest prices. Gexa is like an individual seller. Lowest prices, but service is hit or miss. All of the companies play off of one another but what they are selling (electricity) all comes from the same place. It also gives the consumer a choice. You can choose to pay a little more for better service, or a little less and sacrifice something.
If Centerpoint entered the market firsthand (setting aside monopoly laws for a moment), they could easily just price their competition out of the market. Additionally, they would future knowledge of what is coming up. This would give them the ability to manipulate the market as they see fit. From your perspective, the fact that Wizards controls the supply means the same thing. To that point, Wizards does have a fair amount of it. However, their ability to influence the market is one step removed with middle men that trade off services against differing prices for the same good (Electricity in my first example, specific cards or boxes in the second). There is a subtle yet powerful difference.
Collected Company will hold its price as long as Abzan Company will be popular and I don't think this will change anytime soon. It sees a good amount of play and this should keep its price as it is.

Chord's first printing or second printing? Company will see a bit of a drop but it recover a lot of it fairly quickly. Its a strong card that will have a lot of applications in the future. Plus it will only get better with power creep.
