I picked up a Nahiri for 17 a few weeks ago at GP Toronto. Kinda wish I got more
I share the sentiment, I got 2 at $12 and convinced myself I'll just get the other 2 next month since she seemed to not be finding a home in many decks...
I just didn't think she'd almost double in value so quickly

Yeah it's a ridiculous leap in all honesty. I think one of the posters above is correct, $28 now might seem like a lot but for all we know her value spikes again due to demand in eternal format and she ends up where Voice of Resurgence/Cavern of Souls/Snapcaster are not long from now and then $28 seems like a bargain.
Or, she could, you know, drop back to $12 like a month from now

Guys, I'm considering getting rid of the following (paper) cards "while the gettin's good". None of these are in decks I'm actively playing. Any reason I shouldn't unload the following cards right now?
Trinisphere - Sees no modern play and I don't think I'll ever get into Legacy (let alone vintage). Seems like the type of card that could see a reprint in EMA, and I picked these up really cheap way back when they were first released. Seems like a no-brainer, right?
Thorn of Amethyst - Same as Trinisphere. The format just has too many creature-centric decks to justify the slots in the SB.
Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas - This one is a little tougher for me part with given my irrational love for 'walkers, artifacts, and the Dimir colour combination. But I've always had a hard time finding a home for this guy and I've heard a lot of rumblings that UB Thopter decks trying to build around Tezz 2.0 are actually pretty bad. Seems unlikely that this guy can maintain his current price tag unless he puts up some serious results real soon.
Sword of the Meek - Have extras which I have no need for. Given I bought them for like a $0.25 each years ago, cashing out now falls firmly under the "leave the last 10% for the next guy", yeah?
Master of Etherium - No real intent to play affinity, partially because it would require that I find 4 Mox Opals, partially because the deck seems boring to me and is also easily hated on.
I understand there are no certainties in this finance world, but would you be reluctant to move these cards now in order to get into other staples? Thanks!

Trinisphere specifically is a card I see that is unlikely for a reprint. That type of effect just isn't fun to play against. Thorn of Amethyst is more likely to see a reprint, but more likely we'll see them on creatures a la Thalia, Guardian of Thraben. That is just over half the price Mesa's normally are going for. TCGplayer has them at 54 a piece. If they are in decent condition, I'd grab them, then trade them into more Khans fetches. Mesa isn't a high demand fetch, so when it's reprinted, it's value is likely to crash, which is why I'd try to trade into other fetches if you pick them up.

I just looked up their price since I haven't paid attention to it in a few years. You're getting quite a deal at $28/per. That said, it's possible they get reprinted in Eternal Masters. If they do, it'll go down but it's a limited print run so the fall may not be too far. Some people also think they won't be reprinted there. And I doubt they'll be reprinted in a Standard set at least until Battle Lands rotate out.

Arid Mesa is one of the cheapest of the enemy fetches (it dodges the blue mana auto price increase), and that price isn't too far below what you can snag them for online now. Unless you have a deck to play them in, I personally wouldn't pick up a playlet at that price if it is a lot of money for you and not going to go into a deck you are currently playing. I would put that money into the freshly printed khans fetches if you are looking to spec on fetch lands as those were recently printed and will go up higher in price relative to their current cost.

Sorry, I disagree with this statement. The absolute cheapest you can get NM copies on TCG is $50/ea. IF you're picking them up for $28/ea, you could try to push them in trades for cards you do need very easily. Fetches, even off color ones, are highly sought after. If someone came to me and said "I'll trade these fetches normally valued at $50 for $40, I'd probably trade for them just to get the value increase.
A quick look says card kingdom is buying them for 30 off of buylist, and that is cash not their +30% for storecredit option. so youd make 8$ just by doing that (which is not the ideal means of getting rid of them). And if your looking to move them fast, i agree with sealteamfive's plan of lowering their trade value in order to profit quickly.

No need to apologize by any means. I didn't realize their price was so high and had it in my mind that I had recently checked for them and they were around 35-40 still.
Based on that I would revise my recommendation to the following:
1. If you need them to play with, definitely buy them at that price.
2. If you don't need them to play with, still buy at $28 and either trade up or sell online as quickly as possible. I don't see the price on these going up much further and I think they are at their peak or near their peak price.
Buying low and then selling them can be a bit of work, but if you've got a bit of free time and saved some money from cashing in other cards it can be a fun and good way to make some extra magic spending money. I do that all the time with auctions on eBay and have used it to build my collection. It's tedious but works if you are patient.
Thanks guys, really appreciate all of the thoughts on this. Looks like I'll be picking them up tomorrow and then if I can't think of anything to do with them I'll just trade them out within the next couple days for something else I want. Thanks again, it really helped me make the decision.
Edit: No need to worry about condition or being tricked by counterfeits, I'm buying these from my local store, I have personal friends who work their, this is just an honest good deal thanks for the concern though.

I would get them, but be careful. as the saying goes " if a deal is too good to be true, it often is". Make sure you don´t waste your money on counterfeits.
That's a good point. Also be on the lookout for worse condition than advertised.

@samstod Innistrad was a beloved set. Why not more good unique reprints from there?
7:44 PM - 3 May 2016
What we are trying to make in Standard is something new and different than anything you have ever seen before. We don't want to just remake an old Standard format. Luckily, we have other venues to reprint those cards, so you will end up seeing them in the future. Just probably not in Standard.
For many cards, we didn't reprint them because we didn't use the mechanics—which knocks out Spider Spawning and Snapcaster Mage. Obviously we couldn't use Griselbrand because he is dead. And we wanted a new version of Avacyn that showed off her change story-wise. We decided to not just repeat the mechanics of Innistrad, because even though they were good and popular, we wanted to make something new.
Reprints are hard, because we can't change the numbers. Some cards in the set started out as reprints that got new art, and we ended up changing them for various Limited reasons—curving, color balance, etc. Even in Constructed, we often find that a card would be better positioned with a small reduction in power, or by sitting at a different spot on the curve, which we can't control with reprints. I think Standard would've been more fun if Thoughtseize had taken 3 life—which wasn't really on the table without changing the card.
Ultimately, some of the cards that many people have said they really wanted reprinted were ones that would likely have made Standard less fun, or at the very least less balanced. Looking back at the past few years of Standard, there were a ton of cards we would've made slightly weaker or stronger today if we had known exactly how they would play out. We're just going to be wrong on a lot of cards.
We try to aim cards for a certain power-level band, and some go above and some below. Note that I say aim—we clearly make cards strong enough for Modern, but they are usually the cards that end up stronger than we expected. Snapcaster Mage, Liliana of the Veil, Huntmaster of the Fells, and Gavony Township are also all cards that were stronger than expected—even if we did expect them to be very strong. Collected Company has probably improved Modern, but is stronger than we'd want for Standard if we were to go back and reprint it in a new set.
This kind of commentary makes me seriously worried for Modern prices, if they put that much emphasis of limited and Standard over Modern reprints, and the hints that good reprints will be 'probably not in Standard', especially while they are restricting things like Masters sets to limited print runs and focusing even those on limited.
This is not new information at all and I think ultimately the game is better for it. Print old cards in the man supplemental products they offer and give us new cards in standard to keep the game fresh. Constantly rehashing old ideas as your primary product will make the game stale. The game had almost always been designed with this in mind - now it's just more official. Good.

We should already be aware of that, since there is no Inquisition of Kozilek or Goblin Guide in the BFZ block. Now this is the 'official' confirmation about the reprint policy in the future...

I wouldn't be worried yet. Most of the truly serious Modern prices issues didn't start until around last year at this time. That was when the MM2015 spikes happened and we hit a new boom and bust cycle of Modern speculation. Some had been ongoing for years, but it got really bad around MM2015. Assuming Wizards put plans in motion to counteract these new pressure, we should start to see them come to fruition in the near future. I'd expect to see some good news about reprints in the next 6 months; remember we are dealing with a corporate, global-brand timescale here.

True, and also a company who previously has shown little sign of quite understanding the way internet works for sales purposes, especially in terms of the secondary market, in comparison to brick and mortar stores, and had/has a lot of difficulty managing parts of their online presence, such as problems with Gatherer, closing their old forums, relative slowness, clunkiness, and ugly interface of MTGO, etc.
But they just recently hired some guy from Microsoft to be relatively high up the chain? So maybe this means they'll start getting better soon down the line in terms of how they understand modern internet influenced markets and the digital end of their product lines and stuff?
I feel like it's good to not reprint items in mass quantity. No I don't like expensive cards and yes I like reprints but if we stop back there are some good things. It encourages people to make new decks and makes special sets like modern masters more fun. The biggest downside to no reprints is people take advantage of it like speculators and stores likr scg that control the market.

Edit: No need to worry about condition or being tricked by counterfeits, I'm buying these from my local store, I have personal friends who work their, this is just an honest good deal thanks for the concern though.

Well, this is a bad sign:
This kind of commentary makes me seriously worried for Modern prices, if they put that much emphasis of limited and Standard over Modern reprints, and the hints that good reprints will be 'probably not in Standard', especially while they are restricting things like Masters sets to limited print runs and focusing even those on limited.
We should already be aware of that, since there is no Inquisition of Kozilek or Goblin Guide in the BFZ block. Now this is the 'official' confirmation about the reprint policy in the future...
Anything, but nothing at the moment...

Hopefully at least!
