If this is true, I will lose what little confidence I have in wotc to manage the format. I mean, with Pod and Twin, they went straight for the jugular and axed the engines of the decks. So why does Eldrazi get a free pass?
Abzan Company is very similar to what Pod was like prior to it's final year.
Didn't Company come after the ban? It's not like anyone could have predicted that Company would pull the band back together and recreate the deck (not even Wizards, since they don't playtest the format).
It did, but Wizards also knew the card was coming in the future. It wouldn't surprise me if they designed the card knowing they would have to ban Pod eventually.
Assuming Eldrazi bites the dust in April, does anyone have a read on where Painter's Servant will eventually settle? I need to pick up a set for Legacy Painter.

In play: Jund Death Shadow, Grixis Control, Eldrazi Stompy, Ponza
In the yard: RUG Delver, Kiki-Chord, Grixis Twin, Mardu Control, Smallpox, Jeskai Control, Jeskai Delver, Assault Loam, Elves, Deathcloud, Eggs, Storm
Based on Aaron's interview it seems like only one land is getting banned since he likes the deck for some reason. Since eye of ugin is the most degenerate land I expect it to go. Does that mean that people should be getting Eldrazi temples now? It seems like a decent spec at the moment.
I didn't get that from his interview at all. I took away that both lands will go but no creatures or other pieces.
Banning out both lands means that the deck completely dies. He wants to keep it alive so one land will probably go. Power level wise it's def Eye of Ugin hence why I asked if Eldrazi temple is a good spec.
Forsythe said that modern is at Def con 1 and he said they didn't want to nuke the Eldrazi deck. Those 2 statements are seemingly at odds with each other. Absent clarification, we should default to logic. Both lands being banned is by far the most logical decision.
You have to remember also, he (Aaron) has knowledge of whats in SOI.
He may be hinting at only banning one land (even tho the deck is Defcon 1) because he also knows of hate cards that will be released for it in April.
I mean the set after is where typical hate cards show up, plus I believe there was even a tweet a while back where he noted that colorless cards don't have as much hate cards as everything else right now.
The combination of good hate and the removal of Temple or Eye may be enough to nerf the deck down to manageable levels.
Let's imagine a scenario where only Eye of Ugin gets banned - if that's the case, Temples STILL aren't a good spec target as the last three months have already seen them at peak pricing and with a ban players are going to be selling out of the deck flooding the market. Even if the deck is still tier 1.5/2, it's NEVER going to be as popular as it was a month or two ago (barring some new broken eldrazi cards).
Hey guys since it seems azusa, lost but seeking is going to see a reprint as a foil judge only, do you think her price miht go up? I might be able to get a cheap one, but I want to know if you recomend me to wait instead. Do judge foils actually reduce the price of staples?

Usually they become specialty items and curios more than anything else. See Hana from the weatherlight for a good example or the Thalia Promo.

Judge promos only really impact prices when the original is extremely scarce, like the P3K cards or Mana Crypt (briefly), and even then it's because of the judge promo being more available than the original. They otherwise have little to no impact on the price of non-foil original printings.

Azusa is a bit of a strange case though in that her value is being propped up by largely casual formats and price memory now that Amulet is gone from the competitive scene. I can't imagine prices hold after the judge printing because Commander and Cube players will likely migrate to the now more 'exclusive' version. I don't think prices will tank by any means, but specifically buying or holding right now is a mistake on the card.

Speaking as a primarily commander player with a penchant for foils, you're right for the people who are after "pimp" printings. Judge promos definitely have the potential to affect pack foil prices. In my experience, there are a lot more players who just want the card for its effect and who aren't going to shell out for the same thing but shinier. Non-foil copies are going to keep cooling down for a while as long as she doesn't have a competitive home, but I can't see her going below about $15-20 at the low end and the judge promo isn't going to speed up that process by much.
I think holding her is fine. Selling now and rebuying later is going to about break even unless you get a really good price at both ends, and you'd still only be looking at getting a few dollars out of her after selling costs. I wouldn't buy if you're looking for the best deal, but that has more to do with her price already declining than the upcoming judge promo. If Revhrain is getting a really good deal, already has a home in mind for her, and is going to get some use out of her immediately, spending a few extra dollars for some months of playtime might be a good call. If she's just going to sit in a binder, I wouldn't buy right now.

So perhaps I should get a copy only if it's around the 15-20 bucks? Thanks for everyone's advice.
I ended up trading in my set of verdant catacombs for $50 each in credit, was this a smart choice with eternal masters coming out soon?
I'd probably make that deal. You wouldn't get much more than that in cash once you take out shipping, seller fees, etc. I can certainly see them spiking again if they're not reprinted by this time next year, but then again they *could* be reprinted next month in SOI and have their value plummet. Nobody can tell you if it was a smart choice or not until the enemy fetches are actually reprinted, but I'd say it was a safe play.
So how do we feel about thing in the ice's preorder price. Unfortunate I snoozed and now the card is $15 a piece. What do we think the card will fall to? Personally the card seems like a $5-10 since I don't see it being amazing in standard but decent in modern. I'm between getting this or getting Archangel Avacyn. Archangel Avacyn seems like a safer preorder since I think it will go up in price.

On mtgsalvation people don't want to discuss ideas, so I give people something else to discuss: my controversial opinions.
I think Thing is the usual hype bait card of the set.
Always do the opposite of what everyone else does during spoiler season, it's always the card that looks jank by itself that ends up being the game changer.

Thing in the ice is way over priced. Archangel Avacyn is decently priced right (for a pre-order) right now. It looks like a good card, is a mythic, and has a unique ability. It is an angel, which is always popular with the kitchen table crowd. I could see it holding value, similar to Avacyn, Angel of Hope.

I'm afraid of missing a super hyped up card, but I was also wrong about Myth Realized. This can block, but then bolt is a thing still, roast, rending volley, this being a very bad topdeck, still removed easily by terminates, paths, etc, which is a lot of hard work, and this card is defenseless against Abrupt Decay
I have to think about whether or not to keep these cards reserved or cancelled, it's not a mythic, but I'm going to feel so dumb if this skyrockets
Quite often it's the 3 dollar card that goes unnoticed though
I'm still hesitant about Thing in Ice, it very much reminds me of Myth Realized and the problems it faces
More often than not, the general rule of thumb should be "never preorder anything."
For every Jace, the Mind Sculptor or Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, there are 20+ cards that crash in price almost immediately after release. I'm not saying it's impossible to turn a profit (because experience with card evaluation definitely helps), but right after the release of a new set, most sellers are providing their cards at an inflated price, because (1) they don't want to miss out on money, and (2) Standard players pay a premium to have their cards immediately.
For the rest of us that play nonrotating formats, the correct option is almost always to wait 3-4 weeks after release, and then buy what we need.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?
Also is right now the time to snag Ancestral Vision? It has been hinted by Aaron to come off the ban list for quite some time now and it's at $15 right now.
If you can get it at $15 it's probably not going much lower. I swear I saw it at $25 the other day. The card has a lot of unban hype surrounding it.
If you don't want to miss out, get them now because it will go higher when eventually unbanned. Personally though, I'm going to wait a bit as I don't expect the unban until next January, and I would prefer to get it at a better price (I used to have a set but traded them off to someone... kind of regret it now). Also, I suspect it's a prime contender for an Eternal Masters reprint as it could use one and that's a very safe place to reprint it if they want to be proactive about unban pricing but still leave open the option to not commit to an unban.

It's a very cool card. I don't see the hype though. People talking about putting it in Delver are crazy and it just doesn't stand out to me as something you want to be going as deep as Ojutai's Command with. For most uses people are talking about, Tarmogoyf is simply the better option. I think the real spot it's competing for is with Wall of Omens.

It's like investing in individual stocks. You have to beat the market to win and you have to be arrogant or stupid to think you can beat the market.
