I bought back into Modern last year and built Jund/Abzan. Glad I did. It feels like the sky is falling. Are these spikes across the board unprecedented? It seems like every day I check in something else is shooting up.
Spikes like this happen every Modern Pro Tour season since the format's been announced.

Spike alert on Goblin Guide. TCG is up to $40 for NM.
Glad I picked mine up in December. I assumed without a reprint, he had nowhere to go but up. At least my burn deck is competitive now and I can play something with Twin banned.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to pick him up now while I am in the process of building a Burn deck or just scrap that idea all together and wait until he comes back down at some point.

Same reason Inquisition jumped in price it wasn't reprinted in the new Zendikar block. It will likely go to $50 dollars soon burn is going to be a good deck to play this year.

Considering we just went to Zenidkar and didn't see a reprint there, and considering the direction they are taking Standard, trying to move away from burn and speedy aggro, I doubt it will be reprinted any time soon. MM17 is probably it. If you need em, Now is as good a time as any.
I could see it becoming more relevant as Tron and Burn are going to be top decks now with potentially BR Eldrazi following suit (if it wins).
Edit: Welp, went ahead and purchased the Guides. I hate everything!
It's is going to see a uptick in play because the devoid burn spells printed in oath makes Kor Firewalker bad. It's not why the price of foils are a $100 dollars though it's clearly been bought out.
True... Though I don't see how BFT would protect from devoid sweepers. Isn't Kor mostly just in Burn now for the mirror?
On Guide, I just picked mine up for about $33 each on eBay. Just saw a new listing or two for $29 (!!!!) NM if anyone wants to get some for "normal price" although the seller rating is almost non-existent if you care about those things. They can still be had for less than $40 if you act now, otherwise it's probably going to be a new $50 card.
Jeskai and grixis are terribly positioned so it looks like this will be a season where counters are almost non existant
We'll see. Scapeshift might spread to fill the Combo-Control void. Or URx Delver might scoop up a portion of the ex-Twin players who want to keep playing their UR Duals and Snapcasters. They've also talked about the possibility of unbanning some control cards if control decks don't massively overtake the space left open by Twin.
I can think of multiple possibilities for countermagic playing a big role in the future of Modern.
Well I can't discuss unbannings here but I agree that scpaeshift seems better now.

True on BFT and yes on Firewalkers are played mostly in Burn Mirrors. I don't think you'll regret picking up Goblin Guide. Burn decks and Zoo are going to see a lot more play. Burn decks are very resistant to bans since we have a lot of options to plug in. I believe burn could survive a ban on Lightning bolt.
Yeah I almost picked up the set last week because I expected a spike, but thought I had some time. IMO Burn is one of the best positioned decks in the new meta.

This is one of those cards that can be reprinted in SOI.
Can be? Yes. Will be? If Zendikar is any indication, no.
I've been on the fence though about Cavern - it doesn't pose any real clear development challenge like something like Goblin Guide or Inquisition might. I think it's possible it sees a reprint, at least more so than either of the other two suspected reprints from BFZ, and I think it's a more likely reprint than either Snap or Lily.
Why did Eye of Ugin go up to $30-$40? Buy out? Modern season Tron and Eldrazi deck So? Does anyone know?
When is a good time to sell them, because I have one not being used.
What about Oblivion Stone?

I agree with Joban, it's been a very interesting month for finance - but the short of it is this:
Eldrazi 5-0'd a bunch of times - some of the pieces started to go up. Panic happened and they spiked hard. BW Eldrazi got 10th at an SCG and then coverage and it spiked harder. Then when Twin got banned Tron started adding fuel to the flames as people tagged Tron as the next big deck. Here we are now.
Looks like Ghost Quarter is in the midst of a buyout as well. It is a perfect target, too. It's going to be a 2 of going forward, at the least.
The Modern staples market is in a state of extremely wild fluctuation. I suspect it will last several weeks, with more instability following the results of the Pro Tour. Loooots of speculation going on.
Good luck trying to buy out an uncommon card reprinted THREE times in the last TWO years, and five times in total. Lol.
Keep laughing.
Ghost Quarter today:
Commander 2015: was $1.10, now $1.11, up one cent
Commander 2014: was $.64 now $.88, up 24 cents
Dissension: was $2.25 now $3.19, up 94 cents
Innistrad: was $.76, now $.89, up 13 cents
Modern Event Deck: was $.89, now $.93, up 4 cents
This card is moving/spiking, and will likely continue to move, as it is now a must have staple to counter several of the strongest decks in the format. If nothing else, it eliminates a dual land and forces your opponent to make a decision on one color or the other. Crucible of Worlds is steadily rising, and Ghost Quarter is a perfect fit. Throw Darksteel Citadel in the mix, and you'll never miss a land drop, while keeping the opponent off their essential colors. I expect this to slowly rise to the $2 - $3 range in the next year. After spikes like today, all it needs is a strong showing at Pro Tour and that timeline could be halved
Edit: Looking further, looks like there was a buyout of M/NM GQ in quantities on TCGplayer.
It can still be had under $1, but only in quantities of 5 or less. Channel Fireball wants $1.64 each (Innistrad), and SCG wants $1.99 per copy, and has only Innistrad in stock (36 NM, 4 sp), everything else is sold out.

A "slow rise to the $2-$3 range in the next year" for a $1 card is not a price spike at all, whatsoever. That's natural growth and it's a common occurrence in all types of markets. A price spike would occur if GQ hit $20 tomorrow and dropped down to $5 Sunday. I can't tell if you're being sarcastic/trolling, but your pointless research tells me that you're probably serious.

Decks I'm playing in Modern right now:
URB Grixis Reveler (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-grixis-reveler/)
UB Faeries (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/ub-fae-2/)
UW Azorious Control (http://www.mtgvault.com/supast4r7/decks/modern-ojutai-control-2/)
Point is, Cavern is a card with a relatively small supply and multiple sources of demand (Elves, Eldrazi, Merfolk, Goblins), it could certainly go up.
