Wasteland Strangler could be $10 for the normal rare, people just opened the boxes like crazy for the lands and an oversupply hit the market.
Strangler being $10 would surprise me. According to MTGStocks Seige Rhino has never been above $10, and most of the time it has sat in the $5 range. I really don't see a Standard metagame that will make WS more played (or even as played) as Rhino.
Yeah $10 is a bit much, depends on standard after rotation, a shot close to Kitchen Finks is possible
$3 is TCG median for Strangler. It's a Modern 4-of rare that is currently being opened, so $3 sounds like a fair price.
Welp, there goes Grove of the Burnwillows. So much for Tron being ever obtainable. I had the deck half built, too. My lack of desire to complete it is twofold now: one, the Groves are more expensive, and two, since everyone is playing Tron, everyone is sideboarding for Tron. I don't want to play the deck everyone wants to beat.

I asked this before a few pages back, but what do you guys think about IoK potentially spiking? If by chance there is a reprint in OGW it's still a fairly cheap card at like $11-13 each. If there's no reprint I could see a price jump. With Eldrazi running it as mostly a 4-of I think now is the time to buy. Thoughts?
If you can get a set at that price, I would do so if you really need them.
I think Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth might be a good pickup right now at $10, it's and Eldrazi piece that hasn't spiked yet and is played in a handful of other decks in Modern.

Well, there goes IoK. Lowest on TCG is $25!
they're 20 on face to face, I picked them up at 16 a month ago. I'll end up being glad soon though

$110 on face to face, holy ****. I mean it's probably a false high but its absurd
Full spoiler didn't really add much to the Eldrazi decks, but I think the spike is still imminent especially once we actually have Thought-Knot Seers in circulation.
Didn't Grove spike like this last year as well? I think eventually it will come back down to reasonable pricing.
I don't know about Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth... that card is so plentiful. It hasn't seen any movement at all. Not saying it won't happen, but unless there's a buyout it might be a while.
NoSB seems to have stabilized around $12-13 right now as well.

Yeah it's still available for preorder at less than $4 each. Right now people are on Matter Reshaper at like $8-10 (which will surely not last at that price), but I think Reality Smasher and Seer are the best Eldrazi cards (Hell, maybe even the best cards period) in this set. Also worth mentioning from a pure long game spec stand point, a lot of Magic people that are smarter than I believe Sea Gate Wreckage has some potential to be a highly sought after card and you can get a playset for like $12.

One would think that in a set about eldrazi, in which big mana cost spells are going to be king, in which Kozilek is the main villian, in a plane we are returning to from which the card originally came, and because the card needs reprinting, and would be completely justifiable in standard right now, people thought it would be reprinted in Oath. Full spoiler up today, and no IoK, no Goblin Guide, no other notable reprints, and all those prices are going up because people holding off on buying them are all trying to get them at once.
TL;DR: Lots expected reprint. No reprint. Price spiked.

This card was NOT going to get reprinted - EVERY Eldrazi spell in this block has been devoid - Wizards isn't about to sacrifice it's flavor or mechanics to satisfy a reprint requirement. Also, this block was designed 1+ years ago, there is NO WAY for them to know that by the time this releases IOK will be in desperate need of a reprint, especially because at that time they were putting them into a precon deck.
I'm ECSTATIC that bought ALL of the Eldrazi pieces in mid December. I'm up like 300-400 at this point on spikes alone. SO good to not be behind the spikes but in front of them.
Yup, I was short one Eye of Ugin so I had to pay more than I wanted but it does feel good to be ahead of the spikes for once.
Are we expecting Goblin Guide to spike? So far it seems to be around $30-35 still.
Nothing is surprising at this point. Burn is a deck that is easy for newer players to get into and only has 3 cards that are on the more expensive end - Guide, Atarka's, Eidolon - all three of them could very easily shoot up as modern season starts.
Where do we see IoK settling at after this buyout? TCG shows it at $47 for the Modern Event Deck version and $57 for the regular version.
And yes, I ask this because I have a LOT of modern event decks coming in the mail... haha
I have a hard time seeing it hold above $20, I could even see less. It's worse than Thoughtseize and printed in about the same quantities.
"Worse" is kind of difficult - there's a reason why most decks run a 4/2 Iok/TS split. Iok his almost everything relevant in modern without the lifeloss. That's huge and it allows decks that are slower to have an advantage against burn/aggro.
I don't know if it's really worse than TS... most Jund and now Eldrazi lists run it as a 4-of. It hits the majority of impact cards in the format with no downside.

That's mainly a concession to Burn, playing the weaker card because the 2 life is very important in that match. That also means that whichever is best rises and falls based on Burns popularity, or other vulnerabilities to the deck like when Bobs are bad, TS gets a little better since you have more life to play with.
Any thoughts on what's worth picking up early on for Modern Eldrazi? There are a few pieces in Oath that could certainly slot into the various builds, but most spoilered rares and mythics lose a bunch of value in the period after full spoilers before settling to a baseline. Also those decks' centerpiece, Wasteland Strangler, is a proven 4-of and still only around $3. Oblivion Sower and Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger are higher, but they're also mythics and major Standard staples. Of course, Oath may not be opened as widely as BfZ because the expeditions aren't as exciting (I think?), so the prices may not be driven down as far.
I imagine that at the absolute least, Kozilek, the Great Distortion and Sea Gate Wreckage would be 1-ofs to search out with your various tutors depending on game state. Eldrazi Displacer seems too good not to try to run in the BW variant since there are so many good ETB effects. But generally, my feeling is that the lists are so damned tight to begin with, even the really saucy cards may be hard to get in.

Every one of the cards you mentioned is a potential target. It's difficult to know where the deck will shake out, but those are all almost certainly going to be the major players that are currently standard legal.

I don't know enough about Jund/Junk to comment on their thought process, but from the Eldrazi point of view TS is strictly worse in most matchups aside from Tron and the mirror especially if you are splashing with fetches and shocks. It's better in Mono B because of the painless mana base, but BR/BW is rough as often times you are spending 4-5 life turn 1 on TS and when the majority of the cards you care about are 3CMC or less there's really no point in running more than 1 or 2 TS. There is even talk that with the printing of TKS, Thoughtseize might not even make the cut in some versions of the deck.
But you are probably correct on the new price: I'd say anywhere between $20-30 once it settles.

My general rule of thumb is not to spend more than $5/each for cards like this simply because we do not know. No way am I paying $40 for a playset of Reshapers but I would pick up Sea Gate Wreckage, TKS, and Smasher since they are still pretty cheap; you can probably get full playsets of all of them for $50 total.
Edit: Not that I think Reshaper is bad but $10 each is a lot for a card that may end up being all hype or not as modern playable as we thought. There's cards in every set that people way over value and now they are worth much less than they preordered for. I'd also recommend picking up some Warping Wails just because they are like $1.50 each and there is some hype surrounding it in Legacy/Vintage.
This format is quickly turning into legacy pricing...except the lands aren't the issue. It's everything else. Just noticed spellskite and grove of the burnwillows jump.
