so, what has made scapeshift spike $8 in one day according to mtggoldfish?
I had a shopping cart of stuff to buy that I held off on for a couple days. Just about everything in it went up. I'm pretty sure the answer to your question is "because Modern".
The thing that makes me scratch my head about that is I have no idea why anyone who has played Modern for 6 months or longer doesn't already have a playset of Relic of Progenitus. It is a pretty bog-standard sideboard card, and pretty handy to have around even if you don't currently run it in your SB. They were about $1 (tcg mid) this summer. If those players have to pay more for them now I have zero sympathy. Guess what? You should probably have at least a playset of Nihil Spellbomb too. It is not going to spike like Relic is, but it is also a cheap, effective answer to a lot of graveyard strategies. Though they are a little more expensive you should probably have 2-4 copies of Grafdigger's Cage and Rest in Peace in your stable as well. I'm not saying you should necessarily see 300% price spikes coming, but quality answers will get used over and over in Modern, and will have dumb price spikes when suddenly they have specific use spikes.
You may argue that this Relic spike is artificial due to buyouts or it being in a deck that is thee flavor of the month (yes, I built it too), but that is utterly irrelevant. A lot of the people that end up paying more for them now had plenty of time to get them if they had even the most casual sense of what cards get used in Modern.
I'm not singling out The Prodigy. For all I know they might have 42 of them elegantly displayed in a glass case in their drawing room. It is more of a general shaking of the head that has happened over and over as I have watched the cycles of conversation for Modern.
Inexpensive answers that can be used in a wide variety of decks (including SB) against a wide variety of potential decks should be in your Modern toolbox if you have spent at least a few months playing Modern.
No worries i have my copies of Relic and the other staples of the Eldrazi deck before the spike and my area is not really dependent on the US prices. I am just amazed at the market with how prices can soar this high overnight. But then again I am just returning to the scene so all this may just be something new to me.
Relic is actually a card where I would say "suck it up" to people who don't have it, and I'm generally a doomsday prophet for price spikes. As DrWorm said, it's a standard sideboard card. Everyone should have already had them. Colorless, permanent graveyard hate and someone is probably sitting there saying, "I didn't know." Some spikes are stupid. I would say Eye of Ugin is a bit nasty in this department, but it's a hype train that will likely crash when the deck stagnates without new Eldrazi every set. But come on, Relic of Progenitus? It was a common in its standard set and has 4 printings. Most people who play modern should accidently have a playset or two laying around.

I agree with this, its had so many printings. It is just silly If eye of ugin hadn't just been printed at rare in mm2 I could also understand its price spike.
I agree, if you are confidant that it will be a player in Standard then the instant you see a price for it online that does not seem like absolute robbery then I would grab it. Standard play drives the price of mythics pretty hard. That it may or may not see some play in Modern will be irrelivant for a while. I have not followed Standard very avidly so I will abstain from commenting on it, but if you are confidant (and you might want to check out what prominant players and writers in the community are saying) then you need to get it pretty quick.
Personally, in situtions where I am inclined towards a card going up but am not sure I tend to buy about half of what I might play. If it is a card I would put as a 3-4 in a deck, I might buy 2; if it is a card that is more like a 2-3 of, I will buy one. That sort of hedges your bets, though it also means that if the card does anything (goes up or down) and you bought 2 then you will for sure have paid "too much" for one no matter what.
I suspect JVP being so recent in people's minds will mean people are more likely to buy up something they might normally have waited on.
Grove has been hovering from 60-70 for weeks now. Availability is questionable though. Its Karn that should be watched out for as it spiked by $10 in just a day.

Grove is up to $80+ already and probably will settle into the $100+ range in the near future.
So I've been in the process of building abzan midrange. Always has been my favorite combination of colors. But what are the odds marsh flats and verdant catacombs are reprinted within the next two blocks? I completely doubt it in the new Innistrad cycle but possibly in the fall block.

I predict a Lock/Stock block reprint, which would be in the fall. Sam Stoddard mentioned that the fetches would only briefly overlap with Landfall, which means they will not appear in Innistrad. But once Zendikar rotates, I expect we see them reprinted.
I would suggest that if you need them, get them. As mentioned, they're probably not going to get reprinted any sooner than Fall (if they even get reprinted there), and they're pretty necessary to play. If you're willing to wait that long anyway, buy them one at a time slowly over a few months if the upfront cost is too much. That's what I did with my Scalding Tarns and Arid Mesas.
They aren't necessary for play, though, even competitively. It's one of those min/max things that players can try to do to tune a deck and make it more consistent, and as far as I know, the cards that the fetches help counter are kind of expensive and hard to find (Blood moon, etc). Getting shocks seems like a better idea at the moment since fetches will have to go through a reprint relatively soon.

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)

Guys what do you think about selling my fetches. I could use the money and when they drip out of standard their going to drop for sure because literally every single multicolor deck benefits from them. I'm not using some of my wooded foothills and bloodstained mires and I wouldn't be surprised if they went down to like $10 for a while after standard. Like thoughtseize went from 20 to 14. Most people who played standard held on bit they still dipped.
I dont think they will dip as hard as some think. Its really not Standard keeping them at the price they are. I am pretty sure we wont see the fetches drop back down tot that ~$10 range. So many people buying them up for after rotation. If you think Thoughtseize is used in very few decks and only lost $6 after rotation, I figure the fetches maybe lose $1-$3 for a short time before they start to climb again.

Any thoughts of IoK in the new set?
I doubt it. Why? Because it seems logical. Wotc has missed so many chances to slide staples into sets its hard to guess what gets reprinted when and where. For that reason, I dont expect to see it. Especially being a small set and focusing on 2 headed play. Maybe MM2017 if they continue with that schedule.

I think Liliana of the Veil is more likely to be honest.
Are you talking the new INN set? or the next set, Oath. Either way I dont expect to see LotV or Snappy in the new INN set. Same reason as above. It makes sense, so Wotc wont do it.
Idk, Liliana of the Veil was the main character last time and they tried to reprint her in M15 (along with damnation.) I'm not saying that it's a good chance, but I'm saying that she has a shot.

Magic in Europe its a lot cheaper than EEUU, i dont understand SCG/CFB/TGC prices, people are madness paying that much we have everything more cheap just because we have magiccardmarket an european market where are the players how stand prices always to the lowest prices ... for example Wasteland Stranglers its 0.50€ here, you can pick up a playset by 2.00€ (3.00$)
edit, also your inflated EEUU market inflated our market too, check out prices for the eldrazi decks, oblivion sower its 4.00€ and was 2.00€ some days ago ...

Now that the eldrazi pieces are going up a lot is it time to invest into modern masters 2015 booster boxes? They have all of those eldrazi pieces in them.

It's certainly looking more attractive. I'm fairly sure the box EV is now positive.

It went up way too fast for that to be sustainable. Two days ago it was about $65, and right now on MTGStocks it is listing at about $90. I think that all playable Modern cards will be going up as we near PT. RG Tron has been a really solid contender for a while, and has a very favorable game against the Processor deck everyone is peeing their pants over, but I think this is a spike that will not be long lived. $70 seems possible given that it is only about 12% more than the December low when people were saving their money.

I'd buy Karn foils ASAP. There's only a $10 difference b/w the MM foils and non-foils at the moment. I would've picked up more than 2, but the money tree in my backyard hasn't sprouted yet.
