You need to go back and look at the first reprint for MM2013. Goyfs were $110ish prior to the set coming out, dipped to $90ish, then climbed to $200 and sat between $150 and $200 until the second reprint of MM2015. Clique was $70ish before mm2013 and dropped to the $40-$50 mark, then climbed bcak up to the $60-$70 area before it was printed again in MM2015. It took 2 reprintings and a Judge foil to get Bob (a card not played a lot in the format) to go from $75 to $30-$40. Kiki was reprinted twice and had a spot in a vault set, to get it down to the sub $20 price tag. Thats a lot of printing to get a card down.
When you say clique went from $70 to $40-50 in MM1, then went back to $70, and then dropped again (by half) in MM2...that is exactly my point. Historically mythics drop by about half when reprinted in Modern Masters sets. Tarmogoyf is an exceptional card and did not drop by much in MM1, but remember how low the print run was, and it was the most in demand card (similar to Spellskite in MM2). Still, even big bad Tarmo dropped by nearly half in MM2. The number of times a card has been reprinted prior to the current reprinting is largely irrelevant to my point. What I'm talking about is the pattern of looking at the current price just before it is reprinted *regardless of how many times it was reprinted beforehand* - this is already factored into the current price. Then, comparing it to the eventual price drop after the reprint. In nearly every case the mythic card loses between 40-60% of its value. Unless Liliana goes above $150, OR unless she becomes much more of a powerhouse in the format than she already is, and thereby becoming the Tarmo of MM1/Spellskite of MM2 (which I don't see happening), I seriously doubt someone will have to pay more than $75 wholesale if she is reprinted in MM3, and that is only if she first rises to $150. If she maintains her current price of $90-$100 people will only have to pay $50-60. But, I guess time will tell which one of us is more accurate in this prediction
What you are missing is it took 2 reprintings over a 2 year span and different art to get the card to drop that much. On top of that, because of the different arts, we have a split price for the card. Judge foil $150 TCGmid, Morningtide non foil $45, Modern Masters 2013 non foil $43, Modern Masters 2015 non foil (different art) $39. All TCG mid prices.
Number of reprints is very relevant. Notice first reprinting does very little to prices. It takes a couple to actually effect prices. Or different art.
On LotV I would be very surprised if she stays under $100. But like you said we will see.
Is now the time to get rid of Geist of saint Traft? I traded my play set off last week. I picked them up a year ago at $18.00 each so I lost money on that investment.
Okay, totally random price question. If I have two Unlimited duals (Volcanic Island and Underground Sea), is it reasonable to assume I could trade both of them for something like UR Twin? (The whole deck, obv)
Probably not.
The combined price of those duals is just shy of $850 on TCG Player. It depends on how you build your UR Twin deck, but I'd say those decks run about $1200.
Then again, some people do Pack to Power. By comparison, it doesn't seem that bad to try to turn your duals into a Modern Twin deck.
Thanks for the feedback. When I got them out of a random box I bought on Craigslist, I was super excited and ready to play legacy until I realized that I still needed 3 more of each. So are there any tier 1 decks that I could get on that budget (besides burn)?
Sure. If you're only interested in Tier 1 decks, Affinity and Tron can both be built for approximately $800 (although it will depend on the build). Amulet Bloom can be built for about $600, but you'll see a bunch of people worried about bannings.
If you're willing to drop down a tier or two, there are many more options. But I think the tier restriction is going to be tighter than the budget one.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?

Emrakul was released as a pre-release promo & as the regular card at about the same time. It was never reprinted again until Modern Masters 2015, and when that happened, the price dropped in half. Iona was reprinted *for the first time* in Modern Masters 2015, and her price dropped by over 50% from over $20 to less than $10, then, when she was reprinted a second time this August in From the Vault Angels, she dropped in half, again. The number of reprints a card has does have a small impact, because it helps to satiate the pent up demand. The more important thing to be looking at is how much demand there is for the card at any given moment. The great unknown is how many players are "secretly" waiting for a reprint, and that is pretty tough to guess. If this number is very high, the reprint will not have as much of an impact. If low, the card could drop by 60% or more. My main point, however, is that you'll typically see a drop of 40-60% in value, regardless of the amount of reprintings. I will also be surprised if Lily stays under $100 over the course of the next year. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a lot of pent up demand for Lily, but at the same time I don't think it will be like Tarmogoyf in MM1 because she does have double black in her casting cost and does not play a strong role in as many decks as Tarmogoyf.

I actually have a pretty detailed spreadsheet of prices for some the MM2015 Mythics and Notable Rares (sorry not all the mythics were on this list, I made it with consideration to cards I was interested in, so important cards like Karn aren't on the list). I think it's pretty interesting to see where the cards were at (once they were spoiled) and how they decreased in price during those two weeks. I actually bought a playset of Tarmogoyf for around $540 which is pretty great considering a week later the set was over $600 again.
I wonder what conclusions we could draw from these numbers pending the MM2017 release.

It's just barely not tier 1 but I've been having a lot of fun with merfolk (it was tier 1 last month so it's power level is generally on par) It ROFLstomps burn in a major way while also having main deck answers to tron in the form of spreading sea's/sea's claim. it's got game vs control decks in aether vial(a vialed creature can't be countered) and can win out of nowhere. 2 lords in play swing for 6, usually unblockable. If you sell the cards (not buylist them) you would even have a few hundred left over to invest in other staples. Besides the singleton cavern of souls (I've never needed it really. I have it, but it seems largely irrelevant) and the $35 aether vials, the deck is cheap. The only other expensive card is Cursecatcher and Mutavault at $15 each which in modern is pretty fair. You also have the option to cut costs on lord of atlantis by buying the older ones (revised, 4th,5th,6th,7th editions are all $5 instead of $8-10 like the timespiral)
I wonder what conclusions we could draw from these numbers pending the MM2017 release.
If you want to draw conclusions from this data for future price prospects you'd want to take into account that your starting point is a full week after the full spoiler was released for MM2015 (meaning that the cards had already started trending downward), and many weeks after the spoilers started trickling in for some of the key cards, not to mention anticipation of key reprintings. Still, interesting data.
While BBE isn't a hard card to find, it would be the best curve topper in Jund. No more Olivia, Huntmaster, or anything else. I would say the price easily doubles, more so for the foils.

On BBE, goes for ~$2 non foil, ~$6.50 for the FNM foil. I would think an unbanning would push the non foils to around $5, and the FNM foil to around $13-$15 at least for a short time with no reprints. Nice margins if you have a bunch and a way to dump them quick during the initial rush.

This sounds about right. I'm glad that somebody put up some concrete numbers because I think that's what is being asked specifically. Some people need to know if it's worth it to buy now or that they can possibly wait. I know for myself that I have small stacks of potential unban candidates.

Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves

I concur. One other factor that holds it back is also that it would be people who are already playing Jund who would be most likely to buy it. It is not like anyone would say "now that BBE is legal I will pick up those Liliana and Goyf and try out Jund." You have to be really heavily invested in Modern staples to play that archetype. When Affinity cards were printed in MM2 it brought the price of Ravager up because it was not reprinted and MM2 caused a lot people to try out the deck due to the other cards they had opened during a draft.
One exception might be the non-Zendikar printings. It might just be me but the Zendikar art is just ugly, and I was pretty thrilled when they gave it new art.
This may not be a strictly Modern recommendation, but if your play bleeds into EDH you might be interested. Keep a very close eye on the cards that are leaked/spoiled that require <> to cast or activate. If any get close to playable in either format (and this is much easier in EDH) then it might not be a bad idea to think about Painlands. They get a huge boost in utility when you need to color fix and be able to produce <>. I am pretty flush with them from years past, so at most I am just going to hang onto mine until after the full Oath spoiler, but they are cheap, easy to trade away in my experience, and are the kind of land that stands the test of time. The caveat is that if they are going to evergreen <> costs as a balancing factor of artifacts in the future they might just reprint them all again, or even make a new dual cycle that taps for <> that are better. In the short term, however, there is potential for an opportunity.

I asked Maro about <> artifacts on his blog the other day and he responded that it probably won't be happening. They want <> to be primarily a Kozilek related mechanic, which means it will probably just be a few cards every couple years as they rotate to him in the story. Realistically though it only takes 1 or 2 and Sea Gate Ruins is already looking pretty close to playable.

Disappointing. That has a lot of development potential and could be a great balancing option for powerful artifacts. That really bums me out.
Ditto.
While I'm glad I don't have to worry about yet another speculation frenzy around any land that taps for {C}, it's sad to see such an interesting mechanic cast aside so quickly. Perhaps it will be instantly popular, like Prowess, and jump back into the mix soon enough.

The menachanic would be confuse the h*ll out of new players. When you're playing with cards like newer versions of sol ring(example) and you tell them that the 2 on their sol ring doesn't mean the same thing as the 2 on their diviniation(another example).
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

From the time it was announced, I figured this would be like snow covered lands. Important when being used, not so much outside of a few cards.
Well, sure...and I wasn't asking to have my opinion be the deciding factor that would make the use of the symbol in costs evergreen. I said I was disappointed. That's all. I think that snow is more clunky, so I never expected it to be evergreen. The colorless mana symbol as a cost is really just an extension of the color costs.

First, and I may have missed some announcement, the colorless mana symbol is here to stay. It is a cosmetic change that clarifies that there is a difference between colorless mana and generic mana. So all Sol Rings printed from here on out will have two colorless mana symbols on them. The thing that is going to stay in Oath are colorless only costs of spells and activated abilities. Though, again, I could have missed some article or announcement.
I really don't think it is that hard to teach, especially for a new player. Colorless is a mana type, and every other mana type is expressed as a symbol for each of that mana type needed. The fact that there is a number in a generic cost makes it entirely unique, and therefor one would expect it would be different from the mana type symbols. I might see how it could be hard to explain to a person who has been playing for a couple of months and not has to absorb this change, but teaching this to a new player (and I have done a bunch of it) seems like a pretty simple endeavor. Maybe slightly more confusing when you are using older cards, but once you teach the change it is pretty simple. It is way easier than teaching new players about some of the functional errata on really old cards.
