SFM is one of the strongest cards in Legacy, a format deemed a lot more powerful than Modern, it's not going to be unbanned in Modern for a long time - if at all.
The formats are different though. Modern has a lot more spot removal than Legacy does.
From a prices perspective, I think SFM is all upside. If it stays banned, then the price stays where it is now. If it becomes unbanned, then the price skyrockets. If anyone thinks that he or she will have a need for SFMs in the future, now is the time to get them.
I agree. If you feel strongly enough that it will be unbanned and you'll want to play it (or make a buck or two) go for it. Even if it isn't unbanned there's a good chance they won't go down much from what their prices are at now. Odds are they'll hype up and then fall off the hype wagon if it doesn't get unbanned.
Personally I like Punishing Fire and sword of the meek. Way less speedy and way less investment. Punishing fire is 0.15 a piece. Could pick up 10 and if they hype to $2 you gained a lot in trades, they don't get unbanned you hold onto them it was 1.50. Personally I'll probably invest in them.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

You do realize that Punishing Fire isn't what will spike should that happen. Grove of the Burnwillows will hit $100. Punishing Fire would still be a buck.
Punishing Fire would probably go up, just look at the price of Lightning Bolt, Serum Visions, Sleight of Hand, Inquisition of Kozilek.... Having said that the better card to invest in would be Grove, as you'll probably make more money off of Grove unless you bought a gross amount of Punishing Fires.
0.15 to 1.00 is still a large amount of profit if you have a large quantity of them. That being said Grove would be a safer investment as it still sees play if fire isn't unbanned.

People are worried about Aggro dying if Sword of the Meek comes off. Punishing Fire with Grove is waaaaay more dangerous. I've played all of these cards in Standard, Extended, and Legacy. This is my basis for this opinion. (For what it's worth, I wouldn't mind if Fire came off. I am not particularly fond of Aggro, so I could care less.)

Foil Punishing Fires would do fine, but this is such an unlikely unban that it's not worth the investment at all. I'd buy into Sword, AV, BBE, Jace, and SFM before I even spent a dime on Fire and anything as part of the Fire engine. Technically, any of the banned cards stand to gain if released, so it's more a matter of finding likely unban targets than just throwing money around. Any of those other five cards I mentioned would be significantly better investments.

What about grabbing a batterskull before the ban deadline? even if there's no stoneforge mystic unban, at least batterskull can be used in a sideboard.
I've seen Bskull around 15 bucks locally, which struck me as a good price. It's been trending low for a while now, and is showing a very slight up tick, probably due to the unban announcement coming up. Overall, if you want a Bskull, now is the time, as if SFM is unbanned the price will go up, and you've missed your chance. If SFM isn't unbanned, the card will go back to slowly trending downwards. You have more risk waiting right now.
When do you guys think it can be a good time to buy into snapcaster mage?
Unfortunately, the price memory on this card is going to be a problem. We're out of Modern season, and the price has dipped from about $85 in June to about $60 now. But the rate at which the price is decreasing is getting smaller.
At this point, you're probably better off purchasing Snapcaster now and playing with it, rather than rolling the dice and hoping to save $5 in a few months. As Modern picks up again, you can expect the price to increase.
The only thing that could tank the price would be a Standard-legal reprint, and I would be surprised if that happened.
Playing millions of cards every turn... Slowly and systematically obliterating any chance my opponent has of winning... Clicking the multitude of locking mechanisms into place... Not even trying to win myself until turn 10+ once I have nigh absolute control... Watching my opponent desperately trying to navigate the labyrinthine prison that I've constructed... Seeing the light of hope fade and ultimately extinguished in an excruciatingly slow manner... THAT'S fun Magic.
We have 2-3 users that are dramatically making this thread incomprehensible and non-productive for anyone else to possibly join in the discussion. This needs to change.
Every time I see [ktkenshinx] post in here, I get the impression of a stern dad walking in on a bunch of kids trying to do something dumb and just shaking his head in disappointment.
Near Mint: The same as Slightly Played, but we threw some Altoids in the box we stored it in to cover up the scent of dead mice. Slightly Played: The base condition for all MTG cards. This card looks OK, but there’s one minor annoying ding in it that will always irritate and distract you whenever you draw it. Moderately Played: This card looks like it survived the Tet Offensive tucked inside the waistband of GI underwear. It may smell like it, too. Heavily Played: This card looks like the remains of Mohammed Atta’s passport after 9/11. It may be playable if you double-sleeve it to stop the chunks from falling out. The condition formerly known as "Washing Machine Grade" Damaged: This card is the unfortunate victim of a Mirrorweave/March of the Machines/Chaos Confetti/Mindslaver combo.
[M]aking counterfeit cards is the absolute height of dishonesty. Ask yourself this question: Since most people...are totally cool with the use of proxies...what purpose do [high] quality counterfeit cards serve?
I personally believe that Snapcaster Mage is a good $10 cheaper now than it will be during the next Modern season. It is true that it has gone through spikes already, but when Modern season comes around and people realize that they need it for Grixis, Twin, whatever else, they will shell out the big bucks once again.

According to mtg goldfish, it's only played in about 6% of decks, and in the spell-based format that is light on removal, it's still last of the top 10 creatures, and bottom of the top 50 cards played. I imagine in the removal-heavy creature format that is Modern, she'd be just fine.
But unban or not, it's shown over the past two years to spike heavy in January anyway. It's a pretty safe buy IMO. Especially if you have the backup plan of putting her in multiple commander decks. Even under worst case scenario, I doubt the price would tank hard anyway. Probably stabilize between $15-20 in worst case, and spike to $80+ in best case.
Zendikar fetches still need reprinting, and all the good cards in standard are mythic, which is getting old. The last modern masters was only mediocre. I get that secondary market is important, but at $10 a pop, I think they could have done a little more with modern masters.

I think a lot of people feel that way about Zendikar fetches and MMA2, hopefully we see a reprint of Zendikar fetches soon. I'm lucxky I have Scalding tarns and Verdant Catacombs but I wish I didn't get rid of my misties, not like I was using them though
Anyone have an opinion on the value of Knight of the Reliquary with the excitement around Knightfall? KotR had a big spike when Retreat to Coralhelm was spoilered, but is it good enough to maintain a $13 price point? It kind of just seems like a worse hybrid of Naya and U/R Twin to me.
I'd been meaning to acquire a set of KotR for Bant/Naya midrange brewing, but $10-$13 seems steep.

I don't think it is a good spec target, but if you need it for a deck I would buy it now. Knightfall is picking up steam. I don't think it will ever be a Tier 1 deck, but if I am wrong then KotR will spike to the mid 20s I bet.

I would agree with venomous. Get them now if you want them, they're good and they probably won't be reprinted for awhile. They were a $6 card before and I would be surprised if they tripled that to $18 in about a a year and a half.

The Lili's are a great deal, and the BB's are okay. If your looking for either I'd pick them up, but if your looking for a profit I'd pick up the Lili's and skip on the BB's personally. The price is pretty close to what I've been seeing lately.
I think the price on Lili is fair, but not so great that it is a must buy. She isn't really a $100 card anymore. For example (And I guess a PSA for anyone that wants to jump on it), there is a MP Lili on tcgplayer right now for $74 shipped, and what looks to be about a dozen others right in the $85 range. So, while still a fair deal, I'm not so sure it is a snap buy. I guess it depends on how easily you could trade them to make that $10 profit worth it, rather than just spending the initial $75 on cards that you do need.

would you wait for her to drop?
