Really nice art. Through the breach finally had a reprint.
Are there going to be a lot of this product, or very limited supply?
that is what everyone is holding their breath to find out. i mean this product top to bottom looks absolutely amazing. which is what has people worried. wizards doesnt exactly have the best track record for these sorts of things, especially lately. its just improbable that these will be easy or cheap (relatively) to come by, and will likely be tied to something that can be seen as nothing more than a short term money grab.
im neither a promo nor foil person with a mid sized collection mostly for playing with, so it doesnt impact me much. im just seeing it as additional market supply; which is good long term no matter how it shakes out.

box toppers of course come with boxes. all the mythics in the set can be box toppers, but not all the box toppers are necessarily mythics in regular version (example ancient tomb promo is mythic, but is rare in the set itself).

Yeah but even an uncommon promo like Finks will be sky high. I'm excited, yet also cautious. It is being priced at $14 per booster, which is insane. Then again, the only way that price gets justified is if there is value trickling all the way down to common. If I can get a bunch of staples for $330, I'll give it a whirl.

yeah the box toppers are going to be scarce no matter how it breaks down. i mean its essentially 40 different buy-a-box promos.
they are also selling these at mainstream retailers in 3 pack bundles called 'blisterpacks' or something ($34.99). which speaks of quite a large print run, and subsequently a big boost in supply.

i wouldnt be surprised if it was reactionary. the way they worded it, it sounds like the masters set line is going away indefinitely; which contradicts their announcement to merely change them to being themed.
feedback being what is was, maybe they decided to cut their losses - go all out on one last set, then move onto new things entirely.
I wonder if this is to some extent a reaction to staples shooting up across the board earlier this year after the last two masters sets were garbage?
100% it is. They watch the market, they know whats going on. Near every one of the masterpieces (whatever they are) are HIGHLY in need of reprints. A few dud's sure, but there is a lot of value going on here.
Oh the zendikar manlands, engineered explosives, and hierarch all rares is a big deal. Life from the Loam had just started to spike during eternal weekend and is also rare. Even with some of the mythics, they may be at "goyf bubble" points. Like, Karn sees play in exactly ONE deck. Eventually, that will give out.
Doing some number crunching, there is about a $56 markup on the MSRP of the box to make the Box Toppers artificially expensive. The MSRP for the full box + Topper is $335.76 ($13.99/pk) and the price for the 3-pack set is $34.99 ($11.66/pk).
So, before you pay any of the inevitable LGS-markup, you're already overpaying for the packs by $2.33/pk in order to get a Topper, or $55.92.
So what this will mean is that the regular versions of the cards will likely take a similar price trajectory as the Iconic and Masters 25 sets, since they can be "readily" available in Target/Walmart/etc., and at a cheaper price. But the Toppers will remain artificially expensive due to the hoops needed to jump through in order to get them.
As I said, I got at least one coming in the mail (was unclear if it's 1 per order or 1 per box of Rav Mythic; I got 2 boxes), but at least if I don't get something I want to play, it should sell for a pretty penny.
I thought the only people getting the boosters were people with unfulfilled Mythic Edition orders?
It was my understanding that everyone who ordered or attempted to order one will get one as an apology for the unbelievably difficult, frustrating, and poor buying experience. I personally had my card charged, then reversed, then spent 3+ hours waiting for Cust. Service to fix it before getting it taken care of.
I received an email with FedEx tracking info from them a few days ago, but no other details (other than from WOTC). I can provide updates when it gets here tomorrow or Wednesday.
Oh that's nice, I had similar issues, but didn't think I'd be getting a topper. I'll check my email when I get a chance to see if I've heard anything from Wizards.
It's nice to see some sensible approaches to this product here; there hasn't been any indication of how much product large chain stores will see, as "A Limited-Run Printing" could mean almost anything, and didn't instill much hope of solving price issues in Modern IMO. However, hopefully the blister packs will solve some of the issues by being heavily produced and distributed.
I've had an interest in picking up Nobles and Caverns---how long do you think I should wait?
caverns right now, nobles can wait
Agreed. I'd take advantage of the panic selling that will be going on during the next couple weeks, especially for anything being reprinted at mythic. Assuming WotC's definition of "limited" is taken at face value, the prices of staple mythic reprints will likely rebound/increase once the market has a feel for the total print run. Kitchen Finks/uncommons and anything like Gaddock Teeg which is valued largely on lack of supply should bottom out relatively quickly following release.
So with the stupid high price, and no idea for the print run, just best guess. Will this do anything to the price of OG Tarmogoyf? I have been eyeing a set, but this is new art, and I can't tell if the otheroriginal might drop because supply is supply, or what?

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.

Unlikely. OG printings are always more and that goes double for funky frames.
I'd be waiting on Cavern's as well if you're purchasing them from a store. They've dropped $10 from the annoucement yesterday but I doubt they move anyone until pre-orders go up for singles and the rest of the set is spoiled in 3 weeks or whatever it is. Store's will want to get maximum value whilst they can.
What version? If it's the one with the really good artwork from pre-modern borders I would hold it as this is really going to hit the more recent reprints of ancient tomb.
My worry about this whole thing is that this may be the last time they reprint a lot of these cards for a long while. Noble needs more reprints than just this set thanks to how versatile she is. EE is going to get crushed to oblivion as it's only expensive due to scarcity. This is absolutely the straw that breaks the camels back for Tarmogoyf.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Despite my better judgment, I placed an ebay purchase for a UMA box just now for $285. Between 10% eBay bucks and no out of pocket cost (paying with PayPal profits from selling SDCC and GRN Mythic Edition PWs), I caved in and got it. That places the price point per pack about the same as the $35 blister packs.
Let's see if this is a good idea or not... But it looks pretty good so far... Especially with that additional box topper.
Welp, got my Topper in the mail. Lavaclaw Reaches! I'm pretty sure I would have been happier with literally any of the other 39 over this. Free is great, and it looks beautiful, but only Stirring Wildwood and Tasigur, the Golden Fang are worth less, and both actually see play anywhere. I'm glad Wizards is apologizing for the huge fiesta that was the Mythic Edition sale, but I can't help but be a bit salty with my luck of the draw.
On an entirely unrelated note, chances that Lavaclaw Reaches will get discovered as the lynchpin to some crazy-strong brew sometime soon and becomes worth something??

Hmm yeah she did lure Emrakul to Innistrad but for some reason this looked like Zendikar to me. My bad.
