Man, I'm really starting to wonder where noble heirarch is getting a reprint. The price is so massive on it from all the humans players along with that crazy ancient ziggurat. That later one feels like it could easily get supplanted by something else, though.
If it ever gets another printing, it will be in a Masters set, and it will continue the trend of rares in previous Masters sets being bumped to Mythic solely on price. Wizards behavior is absolutely shameful

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I mean they’ve just reprinted Llanowar Elves, tearing down the years-long “Standard can’t have one drop mana dorks” prohibition. Now that they’ve lifted that unofficial ban... I don’t really see why they would be adverse to reprinting this to standard if they were to give Exalted another feature set.
It is depressing, because MM17 was really good overall. Then WOTC for some reason decided that this theme stuff mattered more. They have reduced risk, so now people are sitting on these appreciating assets. Not to mention, who will want to sell their modern deck with prices skyrocketing? I have zero desire to do so, because I would be better off keeping it as it continues to gain value. I think that is a reasonable assumption, and it is reducing the available supply on the open market, causing even more increases to costs. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in a couple months, though. These spikes started early 2018, long after the holiday season. Could the increased prices lead to more people selling old decks, extras, etc for christmas gift spending?
Yeah I made good profit across a number of Green and Black and creature based White cards I sold over the last month, but it could easily have been more at this point.
Woah, the prices did increase a lot. Well, if they're going to give a reprint set.. hopefully no more mythics like Tree of Redemption. Buying an expensive booster pack just to get a tree does not feel good.

Does the "for some reason" line up with Chris Cocks becoming the new CEO of Wizards of the Coast? I know for Standard legal sets they're designed almost a year in advance, so might the same be true for supplemental sets? Was Modern Masters 2017 the last Masters Set we might have had before Chris had a say in anything? Let me go grab my tinfoil hat....

First of all, I will laugh at that man's name forever. Second, I think WOTC has just really been trying to cash in on nostalgia lately. We're about to get to our fourth set returning to a plane out of the past six standard sets/blocks. They have been trying to pimp out the 25th anniversary as much as possible. My hope is that, once we reach the end of the year, they will attempt to sell us products based more on value than anything else.
Themes could work if they related to cards and mechanics. I'd be okay with "artifact masters" or something heavily emphasizing a card type, tribal masters would probably get some SJW blowback but that's always a good laugh. Iconic and anniversary are not themes.

Stop.
Why? I'm not insulting anyone here, just making fun of theoretical people who may or may not read a comment and have an overblown reaction. Or are we only allowed to have certain opinions on the site?
I missed the joke, but since 'SJW' is a politically charged word, unrelated to MTG, its probably best to leave it or pull in an infraction. I've been infracted for less.

Bingo. It's a derogatory stupid term that doesn't have any place here.

This proves you are using it in a derogatory manner, why bother disagreeing? If you want to discuss this, I think there are other area's of the forum for it. Thats all I am saying.
Or are we only allowed to have certain opinions on the site?
You can have your opinions. No one can take that from you without giving you something in return. But "SJW" is a bad word on this site and frequently infracted. You ought to try to make your point in a way that doesn't make uncomfortable roughly... I don't know, half? of the people on the forum, else you aren't convincing anyone of anything, and don't expect to be martyred without prior repute.
Sidenote- Tribal Masters would suck because practically every supplement now has a tribal theme.
I'd love a set without a theme... Are these master level sets where players are expected to know how the game works? And thus can include whatever number of mechanics they think is necessary. Or are they intro or standard sets? Where theme and story are important and players are typically introduced?
I'm totally for players being able to pick up any set and learning to play, but at some point there needs to be a line where the enfranchised players get to say "this set is harder to learn than the others".
There is likely to always be a stipulation that a set be drafted. If you have X mechanics and themes, and your draft cannot support them, then they wont print that set.
Thats probably why Blood Moon has been reprinted to hell and back, and still costs $20...why?, because its simple. Its not a mechanic, its just a card.
well it comes down to whether or not wizards is willing to push boosters that were in no way designed to be drafted. its a pretty big leap because the booster pack itself is inherently tied to drafting (ie the number and type/rarity of cards contained). once you include drafting in the scope of the design there are just going to be conflicts between getting more supply into the market/box value and a cohesive standalone product. not that the concepts are entirely mutually exclusive; the original modern masters set did both pretty well.
the way i see it wizards realized that they didnt really have a product line where they could tailor draft environments that span sets years, or even decades, apart. the masters sets were well received for doing just that, so they chose to focus on that aspect. go all in on the demographic/persona of the established player, likely older with more disposable income. its basic design theory - focus on making fewer people really happy rather than making a lot moderately happy.
the glaring issue with that is the void left by the other half of the masters sets original purpose; to get cards out there and lower prices. maybe they have one big solution in the works, maybe a lot of smaller ones. to me that reddit survey referenced indicates they are going to experiment with a few things.

I suppose it goes a bit far to ask for a set without a theme, but a mild complexity upgrade to the set as a whole couldn't possibly ruin it's draft-ability. I'm talking about including a few extra mechanics to increase the reprint rate of overinflated card prices, not up rooting the entire rarity structure and cutting staples that make draft playable. -A rarity structure that has increasingly overinflated itself by upgrading any playable cards a level.
I think the rough aim for Core Sets was 50/50, new/reprint, but I don't recall a source if anyone cares to vouch. So let me pose this: what percentage, new vs reprint, would the hypothetical modern set have to be for success? Or what should they aim for? What would you like to see?

Most mechanics are mechanics that they’d want to print enough depth in to make it a draft archetype. They don’t want to just have Noble Hierarch - they want you to be able to draft the ‘go tall rather than wide’ exalted deck so they have to print enough Exalted cards to make that playable. They won’t just have Snapcaster Mage, they’ll want a draftable Flashback deck. They won’t just drop in Mox Opal, they’ll want Metalcraft to be an ideal you can draft for and play in limited. They not only want to keep the quantity of mechanics down for the sake of complexity, but for the sake of draft cohesiveness.
Was there a recent spike on foil Dwynen's Elite? I saw someone on FB selling a play set for $75 shipped, then went to Ebay to find them nearly sold out or terribly high prices. Then I went to some online stores and couldn't find any.
A lot of times, I find out about spikes recently by someone selling on FB. Why are foil Elves spiking? It's played less and less now.

Remorseful Cleric is approximately 10-12 dollars a playset. Is this price coming from Modern or Standard demand? thanks
I doubt it's from Standard because I don't know where it would be played. The top decks as I've heard of (haven't played now for a while) are Mono Green, Bant Turns, Aetherflux Reservoir, RB, and Esper Control.
Maybe it's in the Modern Spirits' SB?

Ok, I guess it's from Modern demand then. Just got curious because I heard there are "reanimator" decks in Standard right now.. that use the GB enchantment that transform into legendary land, and Liliana Death's Majesty.
I have to hope that this survey is a sign of them fixing some things.
