IMA and A25 are within 10% of MM2017 runs, it's how they got distributed that is different along with what is in the set. MM2017 is harder to find because it was actually good and people bought a lot of it to either sit on or crack open, where as Iconic Masters and Masters 25 no one really wants. It was the same for Eternal Masters after the "Second print run" fiasco that made all the investors just panic and unload the boxes.
I'm one of the few who actually doesn't mind that they released the sets to walmart and big box retailers. The only thing that bothers me about it is the price tag of the actual set.
Also, on a completely different note: I wonder what card kingdom is doing? Channel Fireball is already taking pre-orders for Return to Dominaria singles and I was expecting the other places to follow suite.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
1/5 of a regular expansion set is the optimistic estimate? That's sad, no wonder why the prices of the rares featured at mythic are barely affected.
There's not really a point for mythics on sets that are going to be that small. Would rather have three rarities as a special case; many of the cards even predate the mythic rarity. And every rare being equal still means you might get the casual rares instead of the competitive ones.

The prices are barely effected at mythic mostly because of the price of the booster boxes, but even then with only so many boxes released any price drop is more like a temporary sale for modern staples. Masters sets barely work for modern and basically don't work at all for anything else.

Take any estimate you read with a grain of salt. Unless someone comes across and chooses to leak documents from Cartamundi or something of the ilk, base-less guesses like 1/5 the size of a typical standard set aren't very useful and certainly not credible.

I mean the only person who even talks about the print run sizes and has a known relationship with distributors that I can think of is Rudy from Alpha Investments, and he's usually been about right on the numbers of boxes when it comes to estimating the number of boxes the distributors get. That's not necessarily indicative of the actual size of the print run though.

Right. And he had to to shut that ***** down real quick shortly after divulging print run numbers for Commander pre-cons. I was hoping he got around to posting the numbers for MM17 or another recent Masters set before he was asked to stop.
anyone have a good case for why wotc has never pushed the idea of more reprints, but with unique artwork? masterpieces are sorta the extreme, with the built in scarcity and all that.

Actually he didn't shut it down voluntarily, WOTC announced that they would stop providing information on print runs. In fact, WOTC shut that ***** down.
Is that so? I must've missed the announcement. Last thing thing I remember about the situation was a video where he implied that WotC rep(s) more/less reached out and "suggested" that he stop.
A question on Breeding Pool.. I need one or two. Is this a good time to buy them? Thanks.
It's about as good a time as I can imagine it being unless you can time travel. Shocks are one of the most sought after land types in all of magic and there are too many other cycles that need reprints such that I don't expect a reprint for at least 3 years, probably closer to 5. Shocks are more immune to the seasonal flux of other modern staples because they also see wide play in commander and casual, but they also probably aren't going to suddenly spike either. Sometimes you can find a store having a sale or get an ebay coupon where you could get them cheaper but barring that they are going to hold mostly steady with a very slow and long trend upwards.
Regardless of whether other cycles need reprints, I’d find it quite likely that Standard pays another visit to Ravnica long before that 3-5 year window, and likely reprints shocks then.

3-5 years? That's a rather long time... anyway, I'll take your advice on this. Going to buy a Breeding Pool tomorrow if I can find one that's at 10-14 dollar price range. Breeding Pool used to be one of the cheaper shocklands.. makes me wonder if Jace has helped to cause a spike on shocklands that produce U?

It hasn't really spiked. It's been in the 10-14 range with mild and gradual fluctuations for the past three years.
Breeding Pool was at 8-9 dollars during holiday season of 2017 at SCG. It's the only shockland I saw there below 10 dollars. And now it's at 14 dollars played condition at SCG. Well, a 5 dollar increase is still tolerable for me - need to get one for a deck that I need to test.
Being 8-9 dollars is the reason I did not sell my 1 Breeding Pool last year, because it's price is low. Although now, I'm glad that I was not able to sell it, because already have a use for it and sadly need to get one or two more.
Shocks are definitely on the standard reprint list and hopefully we get some in core 2019.

Yeah maybe my 3-5 year estimate was a little much but I'd be shocked to see them in the next year. If you can wait a year or two you are probably looking at a ~$6 drop.
They reprinted allied checklands and those are around the same age as the shocklands. That and if they intend to print a full cycle they got no other option than to use the core set for one group.

They must have been really feeling the holiday cheer. History price tracking sites like mtgstocks don't show the average price dropping below $11.70 at any point in the past two years (and SCG seldom even goes as low as vendor average).

They've stated that they can stay in a plane for consecutive expansions, if the story wills it. But the expansions won't share a limited environment.
I expect the next trip to Ravnica will be the first time they 'sit still' on a plane for two consecutive expansions in the new block structure. From Metamorphosis 2.0:
"from a creative standpoint, we plan to stay on worlds for as many sets as makes sense for the story. Some worlds will be a single set while others might be two or three sets. If we stay on a world for more than one set, something about how the world is structured will let us have a delineation between the sets. Sometimes, but not all the times, we will have mechanical carryover between sets that share a world."
Splitting the Rav shocks between Core and Fall sets would mean they'd rotate separately, and I really don't think they want that.
EMA? 1/3
IMA and A25? 1/2
