A Noble Hierarch reprint would be great. I missed the boat on its M15 prices and it's pretty much the last remaining $$ card in Modern I don't have for colored decks (so not things like Mox Opal).

Its being an RPTQ promo this year will offset some of the demand for Hierarch, particularly for the shiny-card-insistent players.
And it was in MM15, not M15. M15 was a core set, MM15 was the second Modern Masters set. Its price would be way lower if it was in a set as heavily printed as M15!

Thanks for the correction - that was, indeed, a typo. As you suggest, I meant MM15.
Funny how we can say M17 and everybody knows what it means without the above because of this ridiculous break from core sets.
The entire attempt to shelve core sets was a mistake on wizards end of things as it robbed the game of a way to fix standard easily and made fire control an issue with market demand. That and throwing all the high dollar cards into a single set clearly hasn't been going well for them, so if anything they may be stopping masters sets for a while and pushing reprints in other ways.

So I know it doesn't cost anything, but I swear to god is Masters 25 doesn't have Shivan F%^&$ing Dragon in it, I am going to flip.
'Iconic' Masters didn't have the original Timmy card, and if Masters 25 doesn't have it, then WotC has no idea what the f&%^ they are doing with these masters sets except hoping they print money.
There was a recent article from the Mothership that talked about the set and mentioned that it was designed around nostalgia; if that's the case, then I think Shivan Dragon will definitely be in the set. While pulling a Shivan Dragon would certainly conjure up those nostalgic feels, I'd still be pissed if it ended up at mythic...at least reprint it with some badass artwork reminiscent of the era. Aside from completely whiffing on needed reprints and saturating the market, the biggest mistake this set can make IMO is reprinting old school cards with the crummy cartoon-like artwork that we've seen in recent years (I'm looking at you, thought-knot seer).

Shivan Dragon has always been a rare. It's been reprinted like 6 times since m10.
Modern will be slightly cheaper now if your decks need some of the soon to be rotated standard cards that are featured in there. Anyone got ideas about its potential print runs? I highly doubt Chandra, ToD will maintain her price if the challenger decks are printed as much as the old duel decks/pre cons

Holy crap, those are not awful at all.
And they come out in April, a few months before all those cards leave Standard, which is a bit strange. I sold off most of my valuable Kaladesh to HoD cards last month... and I am glad I did!

I'm well aware. However, that precedent won't stop WotC from upshifting it to mythic should they choose to do so. Channel was always an uncommon until it was reprinted at mythic in IMA. Not a new concept.
So, how long before the cards in these announced decks visibly crash? Surely the market doesn’t wait for the cards to actually be available to react - vendors can see the market saturation coming and will want to undercut each other to get *some* value now rather than less in April, right?

Wow. That came out of left field. If they print these things in similar quantities to the old 'Event Decks', the prices of anything Modern/Legacy playable will tank overnight. On one hand, it's pretty cool that they're marketing pre-cons that are actually worth a damn. On the other hand, it seems like it'll force some people to change the way they look at cards rotating out of standard. I don't play standard, but I'd be a bit miffed if I had a play set of Chandra, TOD that I was planning on selling around rotation in order to generate the funds needed to build a new standard deck. Depending on print run, I wouldn't be surprised if it priced a lot of players out of Standard considering that the majority of their rotating cards were already worthless to begin with. There's definitely some price discrepancies among the deck lists they covered in the article; after the Chandra/Hazoret deck you have a steep drop off in regards to value. I'm surprised they only chose to include one copy of Push in whatever deck it'll show up in. I see the Chandra/Haz pre-con and maybe one more selling really well and the rest collecting dust on store shelves.
Edit: I really hope Hasbro isn't taking a page out of Konami's playbook, this is almost identical to how sought after Yugioh cards are handled in regards to reprints. WotCHasbro is really testing the limits of the secondary market and I don't think they'll like what happens if they go too far one of these days and destabilize the whole damn thing.

Thank goodness the price of Hazoret and Chandra now has a chance to go down.
I'm 100% for the challenger decks because it's pretty much the right move to make right now. Now I'm very curious what masters 25 is going to be like because if the company decided to do something like this, masters could be absolutely insane.

I'm thinking Hazoret will for sure. Not so sure of Chandra though. She's a one of in the Challenger deck and she sees some play in Modern. I don't foresee her falling below 20 bucks and would guess 25 will be her floor. Guess we will see.

Color me glad to have gotten out from under my mountain of Modern staples. $2700 worth traded in for Masterpieces at 80, 90 and 100% trade in value.
I don't have much of a trade binder left, but after seeing this, in concert with the aggressive reprint policy, I'm glad to be out.
I think you did the right thing. It's a nice feeling to be on solid ground again. I have the feeling that Masters 25 or some other products not yet announced.. would sooner or later bring down prices on expensive cards. I pretty much sold out of Modern staples during the holiday season of 2017.

Honestly, I think this is just a matter of perspective on card ownership. When I buy into a set of cards it is a loss, not an investment because my intent is to buy something that I'm going to play with. I'm never trading out of it and I'm never selling it except as a bulk collection later because I have no interest in getting involved with trade binders and other non-sense. What it comes down to is that the company can't afford to lose players because of the cost of the game being unreasonable and they aren't able to control what decks and cards get showcased via news outlets they have minimal hold over. They've tried obscuring data, picking and choosing what they show on the PT, and have tried to push their own articles showcasing interesting deck ideas. On top of which they also just tried ignoring the whole thing with getting way too focused on draft due to their own design teams preferences.
When the TCG model was created it was the intent that some people would want to play with deck A, others deck B, and so forth. This meant that if someone opened a card used in deck A they'd be able to trade for a deck B card using that deck A card, but what happens when everyone just wants to play deck A? That is where we are at with how the game is advertised and promoted via events. There isn't really a deck B, if people want cards for deck A they can buy them strait up online as singles, and thus there isn't even a purpose to really tit for tat. People still do it, but it's a horribly inefficient way of going about deck building.

Does anyone know what happened to the price of Shattering Spree? Was that another Pauper spike or something, or just a good, scarce sideboard card?
Not a speculator, but I'd imagine it's just a good, scarce sideboard card. Not pauper, as it's uncommon. It's an answer to Chalice, which is rare, and absolutely hoses Affinity, as well as just being an efficient answer to Artifacts. Honestly, doesn't deserve to be as expensive as it is. It's just the scarcity of a single printing.
The announcement about the future of Masters sets seems to indicate that aside from a handful of mythics like JTMS, Masters sets really won't reprint many modern staples anymore - no more Modern Masters 2013 level reprints. They're going to be more about making fun draft formats and serving casual players than reprinting cards for modern players.
We may see that to some extent, but Modern staples are their only choice if they want to keep these sets so expensive. They are unlikely to violate the RL for a few more years, so Legacy staples only have so much demand. EDH and Modern are the only formats that can keep prices high for long. They would have to make a real effort to not be forced to lean on Modern staples for these sets.

Project Booster Fun makes it less fun to open a booster.
I'm going to say this right now: If they make the set like iconic masters it's game set and match for the masters series and if the challenger decks are any indication I'd be expecting a whole lot more high cost cards showing up in regular products at retail. WoTC has been getting pounded relentlessly by players for ages when it came to the cost of cards across multiple formats. This is probably the tip of the ice berg.
Seriously, I can't be the only one on a see-saw from gahenna as far as how this masters set is going to turn out. A simple mess up like printing Liliana, the Last Hope instead of Liliana of the Veil, or not printing Karn Liberated, could be the death knell on this. That is not really a good place to be.

We already have it on authority that Chalice is not getting reprinted. (I wonder if Shatterstorm is.) I've already picked up a Masterpiece in anticipation of a spike. Curious to see if Ensnaring Bridge and Mesmeric Orb are also reprinted.
