We are seeing some upticks and spikes. Hero's Downfall foils are upticking. Dreadbore foils spiked to over double yesterday's price. Beast Within OG foil is up sharply.
This will continue as people lose excitement over Jace! and start thinking how they will deal/build with him.
When there is an unban, my first thought goes to surrounding cards that will spike as an answer or a supplement. You usually have ~ a 24 hour window.
My MTGO bundle, which notably included basically all Ux staples and a few BGx ones (along with Tron, Lantern, random combo, and some other random staples), is still down 6.5% from its sale price in 09/2017. It did not include JTMS or BBE, but did include the cards that build around them. Especially JTMS; I had full versions of UW, Jeskai, and Esper with most of Grixis as well.
My goodness, prices are exploding all over the place. The foil playset of Kolaghan's Command I picked up at ~$18 a pop is now worth $200+ all together. Jeeez.
I traded my regular copies in at GP Vegas to put towards an EMA FoW for Commander. I think I got about $8 or less for them... now they're approaching $30.
Also knowing wizards it will probably be all 10 pain lands.
Aren't they really hesitant to print 10 rare lands in a single set, primarily because of draft/sealed? I expect if they want to reprint a full 10-cycle they'll do it over the course of 2 sets, like they did in RtR/Gatecrash. Having lands come up in the rare slot 20/121 times in draft/sealed is an awful lot.
All 10 Fetchlands... when there are still fetch-able lands in Standard... Not happening. They learned their lessons in BFZ standard.
But the fetchable lands we have always enter the battlefield tapped. That's a pretty far cry from the BFZ lands, which under the right conditions could fetch you fixing that you could use immediately. There's a lot more motivation to run fetches when you can (conditionally) fetch a Cinder Glade and use it right away, than a Sheltered Thicket that always enters tapped.
I doubt it's all 10 of some land. That's a very big and unlikely speculation from someone else due to the idea of bigger sets. They may be doing one set blocks now, but the rate at which they are releasing new sets isn't changing, so it's going to be a half cycle of enemy lands of some sort. My assumption is that they will either do the enemy check lands, or do a new land cycle like the enemy version of the battle lands from BFZ, since those enable the allied checks.

Jace and BBE already starting to dip. I'm sure a handful of sellers were able to get that hype tax, but in another month things will be way safer. However, I don't follow this stuff all the time, but is Chromatic Star always in such low supply? I was considering buying Tron pieces, but that looked like a buyout in progress.

I sold 2 play sets of Bloodbraid Elf at $36 a play set by undercutting the spiked price. But since, I have only sold 6 more sets at $24 each. I feel like this is a price that they will stabilize around, but knowing spikes after SCG Opens, it's entirely possible that they go back to $12 for a single copy as its ceiling.
I sold 7 WW Jace, the Mind Sculptor at $130 each by undercutting the spike price, but now have all kinds of people bargaining with me (for my FTV copies) for around $100-110.
I'm guessing with the foil sets of these cards, the right thing to do is sell. I just have usually kept the unbanned pieces in foil for myself and sometimes a non foil set too. I should probably just sell though. What do you think?

Hey folks, buy your Jund staples now or forever hold your peace. I sold off my Goyfs a little after MM17's release and just re-bought a set before it $60, however, the same applies to Bob, Lilly, etc. Even if BBE Jund doesn't wow the meta, I'd expect the aforementioned cards to retain much of their value once they rise. On a similar note, now is the time to pick up any 3cmc or less cards you've had your eye on that have a remote possibility of being put into a BBE list; I wanted to build a BBE Ponza list w/ Domri Rade and I noticed that foils are drying up rather quick.
Vengevine's been a rollercoaster for months and I've been watching for another spike that hasn't hit yet. I think the reprint-or-not decision for M25 will have a huge bearing on where it goes.
It does seem like the deck that's most using it right now has been a little overshadowed. A HollowVine deck did make a mothership event article feature (https://magic.wizards.com/en/events/coverage/gptor18/gptor18-top-moments-2018-02-11 ) and Day2 at Toronto, but RB Hollow One variants using Bloodghast in that role wound up placing higher after day 2 all shook out. Am curious to see if BBE brewers incorporate Vine though. I think most of these hyper-aggro Vine players have rejected BBE because it's too slow (they tend to play thin manabase and game outcomes are generally already decided before they'd even have the mana to cast BBE).

Hmm, so goyf is slowly trying to climb. Obviously affected by the BBE unban... from 50-55 dollar low at SCG, the M17 version is now going 60 again. However, with another Masters set about to be spoiled... I'm really hesitant to buy anything expensive right now. For example, I sold an azusa for 50 dollars to someone, just a few weeks before Master 25 started to get spoiled - did not talk to the azusa buyer on facebook again. **
BBE is moving up quickly. What were common prices at it's height? Just grabbed a playset for 24, but wondering if I should grab more if I can at a similar price.
This thread is amazing by the way. Thank you to all the contributors.
Is anyone tracking vengevine? I feel like people are sleeping on that one. Has a great interaction with bloodbraid elf (double cast triggers).
I hope so, I'm messing with it and BBE right now online, as I've always wanted a better home for the card. That, some ramp, some LD, some burn, and wrap it up.
Unfortunate that all my decks put people on tilt...

Yeah, I'm not sure how many of the staples are going to hit a reprint in M25. From the sounds of it we might be going towards another EDH set that has modern cards in it unless they do something interesting. The only reason I'm even saying that is due to the timing of everything going on. However, I feel confident that Tarmogoyf and Dark Confidant will see a reprint.

I believe that despite Jund's dominance, Bloodbraid Elves were actually fairly cheap in late 2012 (i.e. after Deathrite Shaman's printing but before the ban), around $4 each.
Per mtgstocks they were even cheaper then. I’m seeing as low as $2.01 the same month RTR came out. It never went outside the $2.00 to $2.40 range from months before RTR until the day it was banned.
I don't know why some people are observing higher MTGO prices, especially related to JTMS and BBE. My MTGO bundle, which included basically everything from Ux decks, a number of BGx staples, Lantern Control, Gx Tron, and others, is back down 14% from its 09/2017 sale price. I can't parcel it out between decks, so it's possible that the Ux cards are up and the other stuff like Gx Tron and Lantern are down, but overall the MTGO portfolio seems to keep losing value. We're 6 months out from that sale point and it has only recouped that value once.

My observation is that blue staples are going up while anything related to Deaths Shadow looks like it is going down. Lantern Control is getting hit because of predictions on K-command becoming more popular in the format and affinity is losing some value as well due to the same reason. Etched Champion is looking to be more valuable, though.

I have a more recent collection I can cite that may help with the trend. I sold Sunday, the day before the announcement. I thought BBE would be unbanned, and JTMS caught me completely by surprise. I had most BGx cards for both Modern and Legacy. My collection if sold today would sell for $115 more than last Sunday. But that's the "spike week" and things will likely trend back down. And once M25 hits and puts more copies into MTGO that same collection will probably be worth less than what I sold it for.
Moving into Masterpieces in a big way. Was able to completely move out of Zen fetches (and Khans fetches) Friday/Saturday. I'm expecting Zenfetch reprint in M25, if not there, then in EMA18 or MM19. All in all, moved $2500 in Modern staples into Masterpieces - local store was offering 80 - 100% in trades as their stock is low. I'm pleased.
This will continue as people lose excitement over Jace! and start thinking how they will deal/build with him.

I think you're jumping through too many hoops. Slamming a Supreme Verdict seems better than having to stick a Jace and brainstorm for a miracle.
