Haven't played online like I thought I'd be doing and thinking of selling out. Last weekend I quoted at $2,170. Just now I got quoted $2,305 for the exact same collection from the exact same place. Is this just natural ebb and flow of some individual cards or is there some sort of larger trend? For reference my collection has cards for Modern Jund, Modern Storm, Legacy Grixis Delver, Legacy BUG Delver, Shardless BUG, Turbo Depths, and other odds and ends.
My bundle, which was exclusively Modern and included UWx Control, Lantern, E/Gx Tron, BGx, random combo, and some other staples is STILL down what it was from 09/2017, 7% to be exact. It's insane to me that even after the PT with Modern events left and right, I've only seen it appraise for that value once ever in that 6 month period. That said, from week to week, it can jump dramatically. It was down almost 20% at one point in December, but it's only down 7% now.
If you want to cash out, there's little reason to wait from a financial perspective. Wizards drops announcements for tournaments, products, MTGO/Arena, policies, etc. on a weekly basis, and any one of those announcements could be a major blow to MTGO. Can you imagine what the price would do if Wizards had an MTGO phase-out timeline? Yikes. I would not want to be holding that bag. That said, there is a chance the value recoups if Wizards talks about some kind of MTGO to Arena trade-in system. But I wouldn't hold my breath on that too much.

Could be the combination of unban hype and pro tour decks. The following have all seen significant rises.
Both these points make perfect sense. I have playsets of 4 of the 5 cards listed directly above so maybe I'm seeing the bump because of that, which would drop back down after tomorrow. RE: KTKen's points, I'm quoting at the same place where I bought and I can track my full purchase history. If I sold out at the above price I'd be down about $200 from purchase price. And I purchased pre-Arena announcement. I think I've gotten more than $200 worth of enjoyment from that, but I don't see myself playing online very much, if at all, in the future. I'm cashing out today. Thank you both for the insights.
EDIT: And just sold. Feels kinda strange, but it's the right call. It will likely dip again tomorrow after the ban/unban announcement, further Arena announcements will affect it, and I rarely have time for MTGO any more. Would much rather do what I've done most of my MTG "career" and play in paper. And my wife will be happy - we just bought a house and this will buy us some deck furniture
actually you're wrong. I just checked and my collection is under $2k right now. I only had 1 jtms and the hike in its price isn't outweighing the dip in everything else right now.
Ah, well I assumed the Jace was one of the 4/5 you had playsets of. Well good work then!
Yep, you were right to think that. Because with the list of decks, why would SFM be one of my playsets? But Shardless just needs 1 to 2 JTMS and I had picked up SFM on speculation a while back.
Anybody else noticing some wild fluctuations? All I'm doing is refreshing my same collection lot at cardhoarder and it's changing pretty drastically about hourly. Seems like everything else has stabilized and is going back up a bit.
Do I sell my FTV20 JTMS now into the hype spike or hold on?
If you don't need them, I think you sell. He is coming in Masters 25 and people are scrambling to pick their copies up now for next week. In a couple months (after Masters 25 has been released and opened), he should settle back down and I don't think he will be at the same price he is now. I don't know how far he drops but it seems that now is the highest he will be for a while.
You know what I'm thinking might spike with him? Colonnade. Especially if we don't see it in M25. That sucker's already sitting at $50+ and if Jace start's picking up wins, it's going to sky rocket with him.
Yeah, I got my Colonnades in paper a good while back, even though they are my least favorite way to win a game, I'm sure they go up if not reprinted in M25.
I wished I had spec'd harder. I ended up with a full playset (1 WWK, 3 FTV foils). I may sell one off though... BBEs are long gone.
Yeah, congratulations on the Jace spec. I'm half a bottle of pepto and two ghost pepper Tamales down thanks to this one going through because I never thought in my wildest dreams they'd actually unban jace the freaking mind sculptor. People are going to be jamming this guy everywhere trying to figure out where he fits in modern, but I got this feeling he really isn't as good in modern as people might first suspect. By turn 4 you really need to be winning to land Jace, and death by fate seal is one of the slowest, most painful deaths one can have in a game of magic.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

I'm just pumped I didnt get caught with another AV situation. Having an instant growth to the tune of ~$350 across the playset isnt a bad place to be. :]

Well, I can tell you I would much rather have a fast and timely win condition for my blue deck. But if this is what they give us, so be it.
Collonade would have spiked hard alone if not reprinted in M25, now with jace unbanned they might get into the 70-80 dollars range if not reprinted.
I also expect some increase in BBE targets like kolaghan's command (arguably the best hit you can get out of BBE), maelstrom pulse, hero's downfall (influenced by jace also.
Some increase may be seen in W control/tempo cards that goes well with Jace like Remand.
We'll have to see where the prices settle and what M25 brings us, but prices wild go wild and in circles these couple of weeks.

Somehow, given how some sellers were adjusting their box prices prior to the announcement I'm thinking that Celestial Collonade and a bunch of cards are present in the next masters set. I'm also expecting BBE in there as well.

What do we expect jace to settle at pre-reprint after the hype of the announcement dies down? I'm guessing ~$125 for paper and ~$40 on mtgo? Are these reasonable?
I'm obviously waiting to pull the trigger on paper because 150 is way over inflated, but I'm not sure whether mtgo jace will drop a ton. MTGOTraders has it at 48 right now, and I'm considering pulling the trigger.
As a side note, is there any fear of a tarmogoyf type of situation all over again with MM where the demand exceeds the supply causing the price to go up? I don't mind grabbing a playset at < $500 regardless, but there's a definitely fear that we see Jace actually go up due to the reprint if the set is a limited supply.

SELL! If you don't plan on using them of course, AND if you can get around a $100 for them. Always sell into the hype.
Also, he is being reprinted next month, so the price may go down a bit next month.

Sell. The odds of it retaining this value are not good once it is reprinted. The odds of it crashing are much higher.
I dont see how Jace doesnt sit at around that $75 mark, especially if he starts to pull down wins.
