From what recall, modern masters aether vial was around $10 when modern masters 2013 came out.
When MMA1 comes out, I open one, and then spend $25 for another three copies.
But this is nothing related to the current price tag.
History can often be an indication of the future. blood moon dropped around 50% when it was reprinted in MM17.
When I reread my prior post, I realized it wasn't very clear what I meant.

What's the consensus opinion on Chandra TOD and her potential long-term value post-rotation (barring any reprints)? I really, really don't like trading Modern/eternal cards into standard cards, but I received a trade offer that I just might pull the trigger on (Chandra, Torch of Defiance for Eldrazi Temple (x2) & Sword of War and Peace). All three cards have just been sitting in binders and, due to WoTC going loco with the reprints lately, I have no particular reason for holding onto them.
I picked up a copy pre-spike to test out in Ponza L/D and she's just been downright filthy thus far, so I want to bump her up to two copies. I know she's been adopted in a number of various Modern/Legacy builds, but she sees her lion's share of play in Standard and when comparing her to similar planeswalkers that have already rotated, she shares quite a few similarities with BFZ Gideon. I don't follow the Standard meta game much at all, so I'm not sure if there's still room for her to grow in the meta/price charts. I'd like to try running an additional copy in Ponza, but it's not absolutely necessary, so I'm basically just mulling over what would be the best long term decision. Thoughts?

It wasn't just the reprint that hit Blood Moon. In the case of that card it also dropped in popularity due to a lot of decks not actually running it anymore. It's kind of like Spellskite and how that card was once 20+ usd for a time, then dropped back to sub 10 usd when the meta shifted.

In the case of fatal push, the sheer volume opened across multiple venues gives plenty of credence that there is a lot wotc is loath to share. The fact is that they want people to open packs and if they know which cards will drive people to do so over others making them have to statistically open more to do so is in their best interest. They also probably wouldn't admit to doing it for that reason due to the ramifications of admitting to it.
So Wizards is smart enough to know a card will see significant play across multiple formats so the demand will be there, and be able to do so far enough in advance to alter print runs... and yet they can't predict a combo like Saheeli Cat.

I rate the 2x Temple/ 1 Sword higher. See if you want to squeeze more out of the deal but I will be happy to accept the trade currently just to play immediately.
Chandra is the real deal in ponza, having 2 or 3x is good. Her price will be stable until Rivals are out. Post rotation, I see her falling to 20USDish but its just a guess.
I see Search for Azcanta going places. I opened one at prerelease and picked up two more at $10 a piece. For right now they are going in Commander decks, but if/when I ever want to actually play Modern again, GreatNate has been showcasing a recent Jeskai build running it, and it looks pretty sweet.
A few of the local Faeries players have picked it up for Modern and are raving about it.
Amusingly I haven't seen a single Standard player using it yet. But it's cropping up in a lot of Legacy/Vintage decks here.
On another pricing note, it's amazing to see how swingy pre-release prices are. For example yesterday Card Kingdom had Fluster Storm at $34.99 as a pre-order. A day later and it's jumped $10 as did a bunch of other things. I'm new to the whole pre-order process but I find that absurd. Does it usually work like that?
Oh, wow, Great Nate was playing it? I love his videos
Azcanta feels like it's a high risk high reward investment, I see this card either being the new Thing in the Ice or baby Jace in standard.
It's hard to play a 2 drop in modern that does nothing though. The card filter on it is absurd though
I think "investing" is probably a bad idea, but picking up a playset or less to actually play seems fine. Like I said, they're going into Commander decks one way or another, with the possible upside of taking off in constructed formats. The only thing I have really "invested" in (extra copies without regard to playing) are KTK fetchlands and banlist cards.
But I think Search could be the real deal in the right deck. It just so happens that that kind of deck isn't all that great in Modern right now. I'm still waiting for the top decks to shift away from ETron/Storm/Titanshift/GDS.

Been waiting a year since Delver was destroyed and two years since Twin was destroyed. I think the current "equilibrium" is a toxic dumpster fire of narrow 80/20 matchups and sideboard battles dictated by wild variance in draws and matchups. If it stays this way after February (when we get an update post PT), then I'll probably sell out of Modern completely and just play Commander. But luckily, I have such a busy schedule that I don't have time to play Modern anyway, even if I wanted to.

Wizards seems to be trying to figure out what they want to do with modern themselves, actually. They removed modern from the pro-tour, then reintroduced it later and included legacy of all things as well along with it. On top of which they have now entered a reprint craze with two masters sets being released in the same year, along with putting a lot of notable, if low dollar, reprints into standard.

I need Dark Confidant and Mutavault for some future decks. Is there any chance one or both get a reprint in Masters 25? Bob is on a slight uptick recently I noticed...Death n Taxes and Rock Decks playing it I guess? Not sure if I should just grab them now or wait for spoilers.

Mutavault is a Grand Prix Promo for 2018, so I expect the price of them to plummet some time around half way through the year.

Do Grand Prix promos really have much of an effect in regards to price dropping? I thought they didn't do much in regards to that.
\
If you were in the market for a copy of Progenitus, you'd find that the GP promo (with the same art) is currently the cheapest iteration at $2.53. A damaged Conflux copy (non-foil) will run ya $15.29. Progenitus is a sub-par example, but the point is that there's a ***** ton of GP promos that find themselves in circulation as of late.

Where'd you get the $15.29? I can go onto TCG Player right now and find a damaged Conflux copy for $6.65 (less than half of your claimed price), and a Near Mint for $9.49 (still less).
Progenitus does seem to be a bit of a unique case, though, in not really seeing much play and being only a 1-of in the few places it is played (I remember a number of people weren't happy about it being the promo for that reason, even before it was released).
Oh jeez, you're right. I had a few TCGplayer tabs open and one of them had the foil filter on. Regardless, I've definitely noticed that GP promos have become much more abundant in recent years. Currently, TCGplayer has 77 GP promo Batterskulls available compared to just 27 foil Batterskulls from New Phyrexia. There are definitely outliers, but in general, GP promos aren't that difficult to come by and can be had for fairly reasonable costs compared to their non-promo counterparts. Mutavault may actually divert from that trend since the GP art is incredible, but that would still theoretically knock down the value of other printings.
Do Grand Prix promos really have much of an effect in regards to price dropping? I thought they didn't do much in regards to that.
I've noticed that it really depends. A Grand Prix Promo like Maelstrom Pulse has kept a strong value for quite a long time and is nearly the price of the Conflux Foil Maelstrom Pulse. I do realize that there were Foil Packs sold during that block as well. But some Promos like Spiritmonger have dropped significantly, although I guess the price is due to the card not seeing play.
Just a guess, but I would assume that Mutavault would drop a little bit in price. There are always so many players playing in GPs and they NOW give the Promos for nearly every event (I picked up 6 Progenitus Promos without trading in Las Vegas). Some have no interest in Mutavault. I would assume the price would drop around 25-33%.

Any insight into the reasoning why Ancient Ziggurat just spiked? I know there's casual interest as it can be found in a number of EDH decks, but the only competitive play I can find is from the SCG Modern open that was in Cincy like 10 days ago. It was a 4 of in the deck that won the open, so I suppose I'm answering my own question here, but it was a pretty unusual, albeit interesting, deck list and I'm curious if there's any other developing builds running it or another reason why nearly every copy across three printings has been scooped up from TCGplayer? If not, then it really seems like people are chomping at the bit to speculate on Modern playables. I guess it would also explain why Meddling Mage has been creeping up. I'm aware that it has been a bear market for Modern considering the relative stability/predictability of the current meta and Hasbro's recent mission to reprint everything under the sun, but this one caught me off-guard.

Smells like a buyout to me. As you said, 4c humans just had a breakout in modern and there's a lot of hype around it. Add that to the fact that ziggurat only has a few print runs and the conditions seem ripe.
That being said, there's still a few floating on ebay if anyone is sweating to pick them up.
I think we can expect price spikes to start up again in modern now that it's back on the pro-tour. The primary question is what decks are likely to show up and what cards those decks are going to be using. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot of buyouts from speculators happening before and during the pro-tour this coming week.
Also, as far as speculating what might show up in masters 25, Bob is pretty likely and it's possible Thalia, Guardian of Thraben will show up in that one in the rare slot. I was thinking they might have Noble Heirarch, but it's being released as a promo so they may be saving that for a future set. The problem is that even if we know what cards are getting released in the set, the prices wont really go down all that much until it gets released. Iconic Masters got spoiled early and prices have held pretty stable on the currently released versions of the cards.
Quick Edit: Oh, no wonder Thalia went up. She's a 4x sideboard card in that 4 color humans thing. Meddling Mage is an interesting include as well. Those price spikes look like serious speculator work, though.
