what the heck happened to shattering spree card needs a reprint.
True that. It has been climbing since Eldrazi Winter, but it spiked once Baral storm decks started gaining traction.
Holy crap! TCG Mid is $11! Now I don't feel so badly about buying 2 extras from my LGS, but then finding that I already had 5 at home. (I obviously wasn't going to find them until I bought more.)

Legacy - Sneak Show, BR Reanimator, Miracles, UW Stoneblade
Premodern - Trix, RecSur, Enchantress, Reanimator, Elves https://www.facebook.com/groups/PremodernUSA/ Modern - Neobrand, Hogaak Vine, Elves
Standard - Mono Red (6-2 and 5-3 in 2 McQ)
Draft - (I wish I had more time for limited...)
Commander - Norin the Wary, Grimgrin, Adun Oakenshield (taking forever to build) (dead format for me)
This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
why does the Gideon of the Trials jumps in price to near-20$ in September? was it related to the new legendary pw rules, or was it driven by some Standard metagame changes?

Legendary PW rule change made a gideon tribal deck was possible. Not a good deck, but popular with a lot of people. Plus in standard UW approach became a big deck and that deck runs Gideon of the Trials fairly often iirc.
The the scarab god is heavily played in standard and is one of the best card of the format. hostage taker, one of the best card of Ixalan is in the same colors and props it up.
Just wondering why The Scarab God is more than 40 dollars right now... is it because of Standard or a M odern deck is using it??
On the MTGStocks page it will actually tell you which decks are playing the card and in which format. Scrolling down has got to be easier than making a post here and then waiting on responses. also google
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
The scarab god is over priced heavily right now and I don't recommend buying it until the hype cools off or the meta shifts. He's basically turned into Liliana, the last Hope, only with even less modern viability except in niche decks.

On that tip - what the hell is keeping Idyllic Tutor and Shared Animosity so high!? They’re not being used in ANYTHING, but their pricing is considerably higher than other not-being-played Shadowmoor-only rares.

They are scarce cards from a small set that (I understand) was not very popular so it wasn't opened much. Shared Animosity seems pretty good in tribal EDH decks and Idyllic Tutor is a somewhat unique effect at a low cost. I am not sure if Enduring Ideal decks run it, but I assume this is also propped up due to play in EDH.

Thanks for the reply. I was seeing a few people trying him out in decks like Jund.. so I just want to be sure that he isn't being widely used in certain Modern decks. I guess would have to wait for standard rotation before trying getting a few copies.

Thanks, but I prefer asking here at the forums than looking at the MTGstocks, because there might be some more details about the card other people know that I don't.

Don't quote me, but I'm pretty sure I remember seeing some sort of Modern/Legacy brew from MTGgoldfish that used a set of Idyllic Tutors. Since every card that dude touches spikes, I'd venture to guess that, being a Morningtide rare, Idyllic Tutor spiked and never returned to baseline.

These cards do almost nothing to Modern.
Thus their price tag is not a big issue here. Right?
They’re modern legal cards. They’re cards I would like to get an include in modern brews i’m working on. They’re seemingly not only not used in any modern decks, but not in any decks in any format. For being modern legal cards I’d like to use in modern decks but have unusually high prices for cards unused in competitive decks in any format, I thought I might ask here why they’re holding the prices they are. Am I not allowed to ask? Have I breached unspoken rules?

These two cards are popular in EDH, and they do not get any reprint. Thus, the the price goes up.
Wish this answers to your question

I can potentially see The Scarab God in toolbox decks with Eldritch Evolution with many utility creatures it can reanimate for value.
It is much easier to answer in Modern though unlike Standard.
Hostage Taker also looks potentially playable in Modern in Sultai/Grixis Midrange deck.

Yeah, but would you pay 15 dollars for a rare 2/3 that can get bolted all over the place? Or 40 usd for a God card that really has it's price being driven by EDH and standard demand? I got two scarab gods when they were 13 usd. Definitely not worth buying them until the hype cools down.

Sure the price is inflated but I don't think it will go down any time soon as these will dominate Standard for the near future (or until they rotate out).

Well, no one is trying to stop anyone from buying cards. The best we can all do is just kind of lay things out as they are.

When would be the right time to buy Ixalan cards from Standard? Sort of want test out Deathgorge Scavenger in a brew, but surprised by it's 7 dollar price tag. Is there a chance this card goes down in price a few weeks from now?
True that. It has been climbing since Eldrazi Winter, but it spiked once Baral storm decks started gaining traction.

“Homo homini lupus est.”
Yes. One ritual + spree = dead affinity or lantern player, plus the replications are not cast, which allows it to get around Chalice of the Void.
