Yeah, Porphyry Nodes definitely spiked. Went from ~$2 to ~$10 on TCG a couple days ago. Looks like nobody's buying it at that price, though.
Do you know why it spiked? Is it new tech in UW Control or something? Yeah, I'm glad I got mine when they were jank 20p rares or something.
It's speculation due to legacy. There was a lot of talk over drop of honey and how it's not hard to splash for the node over the reserved list card. Since the market cost to own that monopoly estate was low people jumped on it.
It was also in an Enchantment deck I saw (which I think was featured as a budget deck on one of the big sites?) where you use Nodes in order to get your Ghostly Prisions and Spheres of Saftey online and then close with Heliod or Starfield of Nyx.

UW Control does run it occasionally. It's a cheap and powerful (if rather slow) card with only one printing and the only other card with a comparable effect is on the Reserved List.
So what happened on Vengevine? A few weeks ago I was trying to trade my Tarmo for a playset plus a bunch of other stuff... now, I'd have to add a bunch of other stuff to my Tarmo to get up to a playset of Venges. On MTGTop8 it's still like a 0.2%-of-decks card, so it doesn't seem to have had a sudden surge of tournament dominance. So, was it a buyout? Or is it as I suspected all along, as soon as birdies hear I'm pursuing a card all the shops in the world immediately triple their asking prices?
It is seeing some play in a RGx shell with Insolate Neonate, Cathartic Reunion, Faithless Looting and the new Hollow One. It's pretty powerful and cool when it works. It looked so strong in some SCG matches on coverage that people starting buying them.

It got on camera at a SCG event in a fun dredge-like deck with Hallowed One. I expect you're seeing speculation based on the two commentators talking up how Vengevine is ever so close to being broken. We swear! (Buy our product).
So I begin to wonder if I am an agent of my own demise. I've been one of the gang over at the RG Super Vengevine thread (http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/deck-creation-modern/767281-rg-super-vengevine?page=7) and we started talking about incorporating Hollow One in early July... if people like me in that thread hadn't started talking about it I wonder if whoever got that deck on camera never would have built it, and maybe they wouldn't have near-tripled in price overnight on the back on a not-even-very-successful outing that seems to have delivered very little actual success for any imitators. Damn this is frustrating.
For those waiting for a cheap tarmo... there's now some for 60$ or 59.99$ to be exact at SCG. They seem to be really intent on selling the 2015 version. Although personally, I won't buy any 2015 tarmo.... because the pic looks brighter on the 2017 one.

As a rule of thumb, unique cards can be extremely volatile in price. They seem unusable initially until someone finds a deck for it.

I think it's very egotistical and unrealistic to think, "If me and some dudes hadn't of mentioned this interaction, literally no one else would have thought of it." You don't even know of JGM looks at forums. Maybe he came to the conclusion himself (like I did, I'd been running a Hollow One + Vengevine for weeks before JGM showed up on SCG, and I literally had never seen your thread until after I had seen the SCG list).
I think the reason we haven't seen any repeat performances of the deck right now is people are waiting for the B&R announcement on Monday.
In order for the Hollow One + Vengevine strategy to work, your deck needsStreet Wraith, it just doesn't work otherwise. So what is the point of investing in a deck, especially after Vengevine has spiked, when the card that is the linchpin on whether or not the strategy works, could be banned come Monday?

What swords will people play the most in modern if Stoneforge gets unbanned? Will the general equipment-package be one batterskull and two swords or one batterskull and one sword?
None of the swords are particularly powerful against the field atm. Light and Shadow is bananas against Grixis Shadow, War and Peace is great against all the jeskai/path decks, Fire and Ice is the choice when you are trying to power through damage such as against storm. Realistically though 3 equipment in the 60 is probably too many. I imagine the choice will be batterskull with second being a toss up depending on what the deck is running and the meta game of the time. Feast/Famine, War/Peace, Light/Shadow seem the most likely though.
Wouldn't Sword of fire and ice be kind of like the jitte of modern, with its 2 damage to creature effect?
The issue is you need to deal combat dmg to a player to get the ability so if their creature is going to die anyway they just chump. There also aren't a ton of blue or red creatures trying to block
I am in the market to purchase kalitas, Lilliana the lost hope and collective brutality in paper and online.
Shoulda wait until rotation in September for both paper and MTGO?
Kalitas and Liliana will both drop after rotation. Collective Brutality is unlikely to fall much if at all. The card sees no competitive standard play and is used in like 10 modern decks plus legacy play and there is really no replacement for it. I would expect a small dip followed by a rise as people buy and hold.

Thanks for the update.
Is the economy the same on mtgo as in paper? I just started mtgo and am getting familiar with the mtgo economy.

That said, they're not wrong...
It was sort of funny watching the price locally go from $8.99 on Friday night to $29.99 on Saturday morning.

Or you could get a NM MM17 copy for the same price on TCGplayer....

From whom at TCGplayer? The lowest I could see there for MM17 Tarmo is 69.97

There are plenty cheaper than that -- are you outside of the US, or do you have some filters checked?
Quote is getting too big so I stopped quoting.
I'm from outside. Can't see those when I search at TCGplayer. Oh, I see now... the choices are limited for some people outside the US.

I think RG Vengvine (and its price) isn't going anywhere unless it fails to perform and is subsequently abandoned.
