Fatal Push has changed the face of Modern, and will continue to do so. Dark Confidant, Noble Hierarch and Tarmogoyf are taking the massive hit. I'm surprised Spellskite has not skyrocketed. Might be a good buy right now, people may gravitate to it to protect their pieces.
That last line is extremely interesting to read, given today's context.
"At least with Push spoiled, the groundless calls for a Gitaxian Probe ban have subsided, which may allow the Modern community to unite its voices in decrying The Ultimate Nightmare of Wizards of the Coast® Customer Service. And we have something productive to do while we wait for January 16th"
I know most people here will now say that they cried for Gitaxian Probe to be banned, but before it did get banned, I super rarely ever saw someone be vocal about its banning. I did see some 12% of the community voting for it to be banned by WotC, but it was not even that much higher a percentage than something like Blood Moon or Ensnaring Bridge.
Maybe Gitaxian Probe pushes GDS too much since it is the best Fatal Push deck? But I'm not sure that it needed a ban when it did get hit with one.

Yeah thats well and good, but how many slots are you putting in to 'save' a Bob/Noble/Goyf, and is it worth it.
I really only had Skite in for Infect, Bogle, and Burn, I'm not sure its needed or better than other options right now but your mileage may vary.
I agree. Spellskite is a very tricky card to play. I play it just like you - in matchups where it does more than trade 1 for 1.
My thoughts here.
If I have Spellskite and a threat to protect and you have 1 removal, then Spellskite helped.
If I have just Spellskite, I can't present a clock.
If I have just a threat and no Spellskite, it can get killed by removal.
If I have 2 threats and you have 1 removal, I will have 1 to get the beats on.
If I have Spellskite and a threat and you have no removal, the card just sits there.
In the end, I feel the Cons for Spellskite protecting a potential threat is just more overwhelming than the Pro, outside of you needing the creature to combo - something like Legacy Painter protecting a Painter's Servant, but even then a Red Elemental Blast would be better.
*Sorry, I should have used a Modern example, like Abzan Company, but a Modern example was eluding my brain right until now.

Between the Ixalan spoilers hinting at some Merfolk support upcoming in Standard, the Merfolk/Goblin duel deck, a doubling up on Masters sets and a tribal Commander product run it seems likely that some needed cards for this deck are going to get reprinted - and seeing as I'm slowly getting the pieces together (Commander fan who just wants a box to open when strangers say they don't play EDH) I was wondering if more seasoned players have any opinions on what's safe to buy now and what would be worth holding off on.
I'm already set for the cheapo Merfolk like Harbinger of the Tides, Master of Waves, Silvergill Adept and a bunch of the little tech and sideboard pieces like Spreading Seas and Mutavault. I honestly don't expect Merfolk in C17 and my money is on two Cursecatchers in the deck for DD MVG and a promo of either of the Lords (preferably Lord of Atlantis with new art!) I think it's reasonable to expect Aether Vial to be in one of the two Masters sets at least, but Cavern of Souls is probably going to be benched considering WotC apparently views it as Mythic now, right? I've heard Spirits mentioned on and off for C17 because of that Taigam guy so I guess it's possible Kira, Great Glass-Spinner could be in that list.
Opinions? Thoughts? Inb4 "no one could possibly know yet dont ask" don't be that guy, I just wanna hear what people are thinking

I been doing the same picking up the cheaper pieces of merfolk . It's a risk since we don't know what's in the duel deck but I don't want to get priced out of the deck. What isn't in the duel deck is likely going to spike with all the new interest in the deck.

Good idea! I have been trying to buy back into Merfolk for months now (selling my Merfolk deck around a year ago). I am just missing 4 Cursecatcher, 4 Silvergill Adept (which are at a store where I have plenty of store credit), 4 Master of Waves, and 2 more Master of the Pearl Trident. I should probably close on those when I can, but I keep finding other stuff to spend store credit on, lol.

Sulfur Falls is that getting reprinted any time soon?
No idea. I got a good deal on two foils not too long ago, in the hopes they would one day be relevant again. One is sitting in a binder, the other in a Commander deck. It feels like something that could be reprinted any time, but none of them are terribly expensive.

It's something easy to reprint, like in the new core set.
Alright, another question, whats it going to take for AV to drop? The card see's minimal play, its frankly not even a great card within the context of the format...

Price memory from all the schmucks like me shelling out $50 a piece to get their playsets on the morning of April 4th, 2016. I have no intention of selling mine and I'm sure most others are in the same boat. Too much pride, with a sprinkle of "this might still be good soon...!"
Bitterblossom is in the same boat. Still ~$30 a piece for something that doesn't really see any play in anything significant or relevant (although on numbers alone, even BB sees significantly more play than AV...).
I was thinking that As Foretold would keep the price up as well.

Price memory is a pain. But obviously somebody must be paying that price. If nobody was buying AV vendors and individuals would start to drop the price for the sake of liquidity. The problem is a physical card takes up so little space that there isn't much opportunity cost to just keeping it tucked away unlike a larger physical good, let's say a pair of shoes, where if that shoebox stays on the shelf it reduces the effective inventory.
Yeah I dont think the card sells at this price honestly. Until it's broken (BBE?) it just isnt going to see play enough to matter.
Even with some sort of deck manipulation with BBE, it won't get much better. However, I would enjoy trying this out! RUG decks are always pretty fun in Modern.

That's only part of inventory tracking. Space is one aspect, the other aspect is turnover. If I have an AV that I cannot sell, I have $50 of my money tied up, and I'm not making money. But if I had, instead, 10 Crested Sunmare's, and I am selling them rapidly due to demand, not only have I made a profit, I have rotated that money, and have a lot more flexibility to purchase other cards as they are offered to me.
Tying up large amounts of money in slow moving cards is one of the biggest mistakes a card store (and finance motivated player) can do. The LGS that's big on singles doesn't deal much in Legacy or Vintage outside ABUR duals unless he has a buyer on record. He'll buy a Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, but only because he has a couple buyers lined up. If he bought a Tabernacle and it sat for more than a week, he's losing money he could have spent on cards that would have sold and freed the money back up.
So modern pt is back so who's rushing to sell pre bans?
Not me. I have all of the cards that have been banned. I got them a long time ago, so I didn't feel the need to get rid of them and potentially be wrong. It may not be smart of me though. I try to cut my losses elsewhere or by speculating on cards.

Well if Opal got a ban the price would tank hard where as if it doesn't you'd almost be able to get them back with no loss. I feel like there will be a lot of price fluctuations again now closer/after the pt. Not to mention the fact that modern will also see play in the team pt.
