None are doing well, but oldest printings do best. That one without the foil stamp on the bottom is second best.
I like the foil stamp ones they are harder to fake. No card 0ver $10 dollars is a good investment anymore do to wizards reprinting model. Wizards is eventually going to print cards to the point of no value.

Ordered the MM17 version - my question has been answered.
I know 76 dollars isn't a big deal for some people.. but a bit in shock right now.. this is my biggest mtg single card purchase, even more expensive than the time I bought a Taiga.. those were only about 50 dollars apiece. I hope this one goyf helps even a little. I plan to buy another one when money is available again.
A lot of LGS's have fakes, you really have to know your stuff. What players try to do is trade in fakes for real cards,( make fake money into real money) most LGS owners are smart enough to spot the fakes but not all of them. Foils are safe, far as I know they haven't been able to make passible fake foils yet. The only cards over 20 dollars I buy at LGS is foils or cards I personally witnessed opened from packs.
Value is good. But Dredgevine isn't supposed to be about value. It's supposed to be about V-8; 2000 pounds of nitro boosted war vegetables. The more velocity, the better.

They sell all day every day on eBay. I literally just undercut whatever the current lowest price is, make sure I include an image of the actual card, and neglect any superficial rating (NM/SP/PL/HP/etc). I just say see image for actual card and indicate any significant wear in description. People can look at the image and judge on their own if they feel it is worth it or not. The ratings (SP/PL/HP) are mostly subjective anyway and have a LOT of psychological influence over buyers. Three different sellers may mark the same card SP, PL, or HP depending on how picky they are.
Or, if you don't mind slight premium, buy foreign non-holo stamped cards. JPN, Korean, Russian, etc. Chinese fakes tend to primarily be English and I've never seen a fake in Japanese/Russian/Korean. I tend to piss off some of the players in my local area because all of my decks are 100% Japanese and sometimes I play non-traditional cards MB or SB (e.g. Nevermore out of Mardu, Architects of Will/Scour the Laboratory in Esper, etc.) and they don't like taking the 15 seconds to pull up oracle text (I always announce the card name when I cast it).

When given an option for printings, I almost always go with the oldest version of the card that has a holostamp on it. The only exception I've made to that rule is invitational cards (Snapcaster, Dark Confidant, etc)
Heyo, I currently have 2 masterpiece aether vials. seeing the recent spike, I doubt I'll be getting the other 2 for my taxes deck any time soon. is this an unsustainable price point that is more artificial due to how hard some of the masterpieces have been spiking (steel overseer, explosives, opal) or is it likely to hold steady? It's one of those cards that is a 4-of and has great art, but the fact that it nearly doubled in value the last 2 days has me weary.

I didn't realize there was that much difference in print quality. I like the brighter 2017 version.

Probably noticed it because I'm also a photographer who spends time cleaning cosplay photos for blurs. Anyway, what I said is subjective opinion... some people might prefer the darker look of the MM15 version.

Definitely wait. They will drop to 5$ a few weeks after release and I wouldn't be surprised if they did end up around the 3$ mark eventually.
the card itself really isn't worth the card board its printed on...does it serve a purpose? Sure its a blue 1 drop that might not be a 1/1. I would not put it in a list and expect to win a PTQ or GP though.
Not really rushing to have them, just want to have a playset of Crucible creature form. There might be a Modern deck sometime in the near future.. that makes good use of it.

If you go for the Holostamp, always inspect them closly, but don´t forget to test the actually card as well.

Anyway, my response to all these fakes going around is just to not buy anything expensive from small sellers and our LGS. Have been doing it for years now. The only thing I buy these days from our LGS are sleeves, basic lands, tokens, and some very cheap standard cards. All Modern staples - for example...the fetchlands, maelstrom pulse, planeswalkers, and the Tarmogoyf all came from SCG - as I'm sure that a large store like them won't be giving fakes to their customers.
Well, the first one i encounted were actually no holo stamps at all, but the image of the holostamps was printed onto the card. You spot it as soon as you have the cards in hand, but a friend bought them over ebay, and due to the light on the photos you couldn´t tell. Easy to spot.
The Second one are real Holo-Images, but not from wizards. They just tagged some random holosticker on it, either with an emty holo-backround with no image in front, or with some random image, not a magic symbol. but again, too many people just look if its there, and don´t check itself.
Also easy to spot, if you spent more than a passing glace on them.
Last the ones you mentioned, getting of a holostamp and tagging it to another card. But it the card themself is clearly fake, that isn´t that convincing. Well, if the stamp is undamaged, and they have a good glue to put it one, you still have to check the card itself.
All in all, holo stamps are no more secure than the ones already in place. its just one more where they can do something wrong.
Then again, doing holo-sticker is no black magic either, so i don´t think this is really a long-term security-feature.
Also notice, that some fakes don´t have a holo stamp at all, but the emty place were it belongs. After so many real cards had the same issue, i thing they just gave it a try (as some people don´t believe they would print a fake and then don´t get a holostamp, so it must be genuine with the sticker missing...)
I think you just explained why people should go for holostamped versions. They are safer since it is easier to spot the fakes.

I don't know how this card got SO BAD SO FAST. I opened a foil one (with accompanying token) in a MM17 pack and sat on it for a while. I wanted a FoW for Commander and had a pile of lots of other things little things to trade in and sold them in Vegas. This card is amazing and was reprinted at Mythic and I had a foil: $20. Ooof.
If you need em, buy em, but regular copies are in the dirt and I don't see them being up there again between the irrelevance of reactive blue decks and increase of exile effects.
I don't have a plan for them, but I do like to pick things up that look like they have bottomed out so if I want to put together a deck later with them I have them available. I may buy in soon.

All kidding aside, with the toxic image normally associated with Tron and Tron lands (as well as Eldrazi Temple), I don't think they're going to be reprinted any time soon. Besides, unless you're picky about having to have exactly a certain version, all of them can be had for just a couple bucks.
