There is something seriously wrong with supply/availability if a random deck tech spikes prices like that.
These little spikes happen all the time from jank brews from big outlets. Even just last week we saw 300% jumps in random old cards from Goldfish and Mana Source deck techs. It's a combination of people wanting to actually play the deck and people wanting to make a buck off of people who want to play the deck.
So it looks like MM17 Scalding Tarn prices have been stagnant, or perhaps even slightly declining for a week now. Have demand levels finally dropped low enough for supply to keep up, or do you guys think this is just a slow point in a larger upward trend that is expected to continue?

And that is mostly seeing play from people who don't own Tarmogoyfs. Tarn will spike back up to (and possibly above) $100 as soon as there's a strong, Tier 1 UR deck.

Bingo. Like every 'Masters' set that has come before, MM17 caused a lot of market fluctuations between players buying what they need to play and others panic-buying cards (i.e. fetches). Now, it's almost a month later and you can still have an MM17 box delivered to your doorstep in two days & for less than $200 with Prime shipping. Packs will keep getting opened for the next couple months, sellers will continue undercutting market prices in order to sell stock, and speculators will be salty that they paid $25/copy for Marsh Flats in March when they're selling for $15 in May.

Havent you heard of the Saffron Olive effect? Cheap janky decks that are positioned well for a certain meta, and have some 80/20 matchups so they look in videos like the deck is good, so the cards spike 2-300% until people realize it's another cheeri0s.
To be frank, prices are so wierd right now on the secondary market that it even is effecting the pre-order prices in Amonket. I mean I basically decided to scrap buying anything until the dust settles in a month after release of the new set. Well, that's not true exactly. I did pick up Melira and pre-ordered the blue god from Amonket, but that was about it. Not sure why people are underestimating that guy so badly.

A format with poor card advantage engines on colour, the best decks force you to interact or just take your cards away (good luck staying at 7) and its a do nothing the turn it hits the board.
I cannot see that card in any good deck, its jank even in jank decks like Turns.
I agree. Of the 3 gods spoiled, the only one I see with any potential is the red one, and even then there are much better options available out there for 4CMC. Being creatures all of the time, unlike the Theros gods, means that they are more vulnerable.

Oh I didn't buy that god for modern. That was frontier and commander. Amonket is a dreamboat of commander and casual play right now due to all the cycling and fun stuff they are releasing. The only thing brokenly good in modern is possibly the card that lets you free cast suspend cards so far. The trouble the new set has is that it is so badly outclassed by Kaladesh and Aether Revolt.
Modern is at a point that if a card isn't so over the power curve it breaks standard somehow it just isn't very likely to ever find a home in competitive modern.

The set looks bad for modern and standard, and I'm sure WOTC is going to have to ban some things for standard since it doesn't look it solves any of the formats issues.

There's always at least 1 or 2 modern playable cards in every standard set. Or at least it feels like it. I just finished adding World Breaker and Ulamog to my Tron collection, and GB/x has gotten a ton of new toys in collective brutality, kalitas, grim flayer, and fatal push. Lily of last hope and chandra of defiance see some play too. Storm got that new Baral guy. I could go on and on.
But yeah, affinity still uses ravager and tron still needs karn if thats what youre getting at.

Part of the issue with modern is that because the older cards are so entrenched it's basically impossible to rotate in fresh blood that can compete. A lot of people want cards that can open up ways to make competitive modern financially viable. At this point the only ones who can make modern affordable is wizards themselves stepping in and resolving the price and print issues.

Feel the same way. Recently we've had things like the finished cycles of manlands and fast lands, Chandra, and Fatal Push to gush over. Nothing so far has really triggered any excitement. Usually I find something that catches my attention even if it eventually proves to be fools gold.

My emeria control deck can afford to use the UW land as a singleton. I could have the land come into play tapped as the first land or I could cyle it away when grinding in the mid-late game. The only one mana spell in the deck is path to exile, and pathing something on turn one is usually a bad idea anyway.
$5 is a decent price for a standard premium dual land. But we're coming in on the tail end of a rotation cycle (or mid point, sorta?) so they may not even see a ton of Standard play. They can hit $10 to $12 each with good Standard play or dip to $2 each if it takes a while to catch on in Standard - or a rotation. So if you're just buying one or two copies $5/each seems fine for right now.

Anyway, also getting a few more simple Amonkhet goodies like Archfiend of Ifnir and Manglehorn - so that I would feel better paying the 4$ shipping fee. ^^

Is 5 dollars a reasonable price for the new cycling duals? I've put some on my SCG cart for pre-order.
It's a fair price if you need them right away and really want to build with them. They are definitely going to drop like a rock due to coming into play tapped as standard still has the older BFZ lands that can come into play untapped. Not saying they wont see play, but I'd expect them to be worth more like 2-3 dollars eventually. Try to trade for them locally if you can as well, since that price includes mailing costs much like most of the other cards one can order online.

There's a heated discussion going on right now in the Burn primer re: Harsh Mentor. The consensus opinion as of now seems to have it being tested as a two of in the SB and singleton MB. Calling it a 5th Eidolon of the great revel would be a stretch considering they play differently, albeit via a similar effect. I pre-ordered two in order to test it out in my Mardu Burn SB, replacing two stony silence; unlike Eidolon, there's no drawback to the controller and it punishes fetches, manlands/horizon canopy/etc, and acts as a pseudo-stony for Affinity.
However, I definitely agree that it can be triggered more in the Legacy meta.
